OK, the Alton Brown Live show was great. Part stand up comedy, part extreme science cooking show, part music. Laughed my butt off. Highly recommended. My wife had a great time too.

how is there not a Minneapolis show in that tour?

Tried to get AC/DC tickets for the Detroit concert today. For some reason tickets were only on sale through the Ford Field box office web site. They we completely incapable of handling the sale. I tried 6 times before the sell out and everytime got to the screen where my order was being processed only to have it stall and time out forcing me to start all over again. I tried by phone as well but couldnt get through. I never did get tickets. Pissed off at Ford Field, right now. I have been to well over 300 concerts and never have I had such a problem getting tickets. As much as I dislike ticketmaster, they at least have the capability to handle a sale like this, unlike Ford Field. Looks like no AC/DC concert for me.

I dunno - but it looks like I was wrong. Unless I want to spend $200 a ticket on StubHub I'll be missing this show.

Holy shit, things actually worked out. They sent me a reply authorizing me to get the tickets I originally tried to purchase. 5 of my orders actually went through. If I had the money to buy them all I would and make some dollars off all of them. Anyway, Im in for the AC/DC show. I love it when a plan comes together!

Bought four tickets to flogging molly/gogol bordello. Not an hour after I bought them dude and his wife said "We can't go. Didn't you get my message." This is why I don't plan things for groups of people.

I finally managed to score us a room in Silver City NM for the annual free blues festival, with Taj Mahal headlining.

Acquired for four tickets and minutes later, the guy who wanted 2 of them backed out. Fortunately, I found two more takers later than day. The of the whole situation is why I don't put myself at the center of organizing things even when things all work out in the same day.

The Church are playing here two nights in a row - the SO and i are going the second night. Marty's no longer in the band , but i trust Steve's choice for replacement (the guitarist from Powderfinger) is a good one.

I love it when you go into a show with low expectations and get blown away. Such was the case with Helmet on their Betty tour in Charlotte this past weekend.

My expectations were low for a variety of reasons - one, this is a band I haven't listened to in 20+ years. Two, the only original band member left is lead singer Page Hamilton. Three, aside from Meantime and Betty, I wasn't familiar at all with their later work.

They played in a small theater so we got there early to grab a table. No opening act. They simply came out and proceeded to blow the doors off the place. Not a word was spoken until they had played through Betty in its entirety, then Page joked with the audience about the set list (apparently they had taped up the set list for the previous show, and for this tour they're trying to mix up the second set for each performance). The second set, which I thought would be a bore, was just as captivating as the first as they trotted out songs from Meantime and later albums with nearly no rhyme or reason as to what was coming next. The new band members were tight and kept up an insane pace.

All told they they played for a solid two hours straight, and barely paused between songs. We left with our ears ringing and big smiles. The night was summed up perfectly when a buddy of mine turned to me as we walked out and said, "That was a lot of damn Helmet."

I'm just about convinced to pay the $300 for Fleetwood Mac.

Went and saw Swami John Reis and the Blind Shakes last week.
John Reis is from Rocket From the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes and The Night Marchers.
Love all of those bands, so I was pretty sure I would dig this band of his.

I was right. They rocked.

I was so hoping they would come to Houston, but they are stopping after SXSW in Austin. I bet they put on a great show.

Todd Rundgren is coming to Tucson end of May. tlr went with her friend to see him in Phoenix back in November, but now she wants me to go with her. I'm pretty meh on the whole deal, but I'll end up going anyway.

Well, Kasim Sultan tours as his bass player, so they have played Utopia songs when I saw them.
They also have Prairie Prince from The Tubes on drums.
A solid lineup and they are great live.

Of course after all of these times seeing Flogging Molly I still hope to see them play this.

Good to know. I was never particularly interested in his stuff, so perhaps this will be a pleasant revelation.

Wondering if I should go see TV on the Radio in May. Might see Mark Knopfler again.

Saw the Avett Brothers last week. I like them enough, but 'meh' - I really REALLY have to love a band (and in the middle of my love fest, not a band I USED to love) these days to get enough willpower and energy behind going to a concert live.

Wife loves them, which I find odd, considering she's Portuguese, and hates with a fiery passion any kind of country music. But likes bluegrass, and apparently whatever the Avett Brothers are, which is maybe...Americana? Folk? No idea. They play a pretty wide swath of genres. If 'New Folk' is even a genre, that's probably where I would put them.

Much preferred the recent First Aid Kit concert, however, and would see them again in a heartbeat.

Going to see The Juliana Hatfield 3 this Thursday. Looking forward to it although the audience recording I heard from a previous gig on the tour was disappointing - Juliana's voice was pretty rough. Even more so than I remember.

Every summer Detroit hosts Rockin' on the Riverfront, a series of free concerts at Hart Plaza. This summers lineup is looking pretty good!

I don't so much like Country music, but love Bluegrass, as I feel there's more variety and experimentation in the genre to keep things interesting. Bit more rootsy. Maybe that's something she can identify with.

Oh and Rhetts, I think you'll like Burton Cummings. I saw him along with Randy Bachman a few years ago, and I felt his voice was very strong. One of the best and underrated voices in rock music in my opinion.

I'm hearing more and more previews for Lord Huron's new album and am getting more and more sad there is on Detroit date yet.

Anyone ever see Weird Al live? tlr wants to go, but I'm on the fence, mostly because he's playing at the ampitheater at one of the casinos and 1) it's a 45 minute drive in heavy traffic 2) there are very few reserved seats - most of the seating is on the grass, festival style, which I hate because I'm old and cranky.

Ive always liked Burton Cummings. Fantastic voice and one of my favorite vocalists when I was growing up. Really looking forward to seeing him, hell, Im looking forward to all of these shows, this is the best line up they have had since they started doing these.

Yeah, he really is a fantastic vocalist. And I don't know how he does it after all these years, but he still sounds as strong as he ever was. To hear him belt out tunes is a treat.

Tickets secured for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds at the Merriam Theatre in Philly.

My inner 14 year old Mancunian is bouncing around with glee right now.

I also realize that I'm now seeing the solo tour of the good one in the band... twenty years later. I'm old.

I hear Weird Al is fantastic. Been meaning to see him myself.

There are tickets left to one of his two Toronto shows in May. I haven't pulled the trigger yet though.....been considering it for a while.

There's a few of his live shows with the HFB's on YouTube. They're decent.

I've seen oasis a half dozen times over the years. Noel is well above a solid performer.

It's been forever since I've been to any sort of large-venue (eg. more than a few dozen people) concert, not counting my kids' school band concerts (which were mostly godawful, but have improved as they've gone up in grade levels). On Friday, though, I'm taking my older son to see Symphoria (the current incarnation of what used to be the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra). It's their Celtic Festival, and it ought to be a lot of fun to hear those tunes from a professional symphony. My wife and I went to the SSO back before the kids were born, but are only now finally starting to get back out to these sorts of things. Kids are free, too, but my son was the only kid interested in going.

Agalloch just announced a summer tour of the western US. I'm unbelievably psyched that I'll finally get to see them live.

I LOVED the symphony concert my son and I attended last night, and so did he. What a blast! I wish my wife was more into live music. She enjoys it well enough while in the moment, but before and after she couldn't care less. I go to a lot less than I otherwise would.

I've got tickets for his stop in Folsom in August. He's always a fantastic show.
