Well, I guess the next logical step would be having the Dreamers fight it out on an island and the survivors get citizenship since America loves winners.

This is consistent with our unilateral surrender of diplomatic and scientific leadership. By the end of the Trump regime, military power is all we will have left.

Trumpie is gonna get himself a big balloon and some cotton candy and he’s gonna ride on a tank. It will be ever so fun! And after it’s all over, Melania and the pool boy she says is a monster fighter who needs to stay in her room to protect her from monsters will tuck him in and kiss his forehead. Then he’ll dream all night about all the amazing things he saw that day.

In the morning, Uncle Kelly will wake him up with tickles and he’ll laugh so hard his orange face will turn red. They’ll watch the Gorilla Channel during his morning Executive Time while Uncle Kelly tells him how dangerous brown people are.

They scare Trumpie! All that dancing and music is dizzying to him! And they eat strange foods that aren’t fried. His bestest friend Jared says they aren’t that bad, but he’s a Jew and you can’t trust them. Daddy Trump taught him that. But as long as Jared doesn’t try any Jew magic on him, he’s okay in Trumpie’s book.

What's worse about that parade is that anyone who doesn't watch that garbage will be branded a traitor who hates our armed forces.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth: 'Cadet Bone Spurs' won't tell me when to clap
Iraq War veteran and U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) criticized President Donald Trump for calling Democrats who did not clap during his State of the Union address “treasonous” on Monday.

“We don’t live in a dictatorship or a monarchy,” Duckworth tweeted soon after he made the comment. “I swore an oath ― in the military and in the Senate ― to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to mindlessly cater to the whims of Cadet Bone Spurs and clap when he demands I clap.”
I laugh every time I read her comment.

Oh, before we get there, the administration will say that anyone that publicly opposes the parade hates our military. Trump supporters and a large number of twitter users with numbers in their names will jump on board with this.

It's going to be tough to oppose a parade when it gets spun as honoring the troops' long service in the GWOT rather than as Trumpian power fetishism.

No doubt the whole point is to get "anti-military" quotes from Dems to run in ads this year.

Speaking as a veteran we don't need no stinkin parades.

Marching around in dress uniforms isn't something military people look forward to.

Want to do something for our military, give them all a week leave.

That is giving him far too much credit. It is all about his ego. It is probably safe to start any analysis into his decision making from a place where he is a hollow, worthless, terrible human being. The analysis can move on from that point on the rare occasion it shouldn't just stop there.

Edit: Also - this is a true gem of a burn.

Vets? This isn't supposed to be about vets. It's about active military, those who have to obey the CoC when he tells them to dance and parade for him.

Vets are getting shit on every day where it matters, in mental health, healthcare, and survivor benefits. And Trump couldn't care less about those quitters and losers.

Anything specific? Because it's not what I've heard.
Well, he has signed some important laws. Very recently he put through something that's called The Forever GI Bill, which extended GI Bill benefits to more people and allow them to use it for a longer amount of time. There's a VA Accountability Act which makes it easier to fire misbehaving VA officials. And Trump mentioned today some changes in the way VA clinics will operate.
...
In fact he signed another law on stage at the convention today which makes it faster and easier for vets to appeal their VA decision about disability ratings. Now, many of these ideas are bipartisan consensus ideas as they have been around for years. But now they're moving relatively fast through Congress to the president's pen.
...
He dropped the VA's long-suffering in-house electronic medical record. I know it sounds boring, but it's hugely important. It means that they'll be able to take electronic records from the Pentagon and send them straight over to the VA. He's opened up mental health care to veterans with other-than-honorable discharges. These people had figured high in the suicide epidemic. So he is getting some stuff done.
...
Now, the president and the VA secretary also mentioned today the continuation of the Veterans Choice Program which lets veterans get care outside the VA system.

I normally don't like the name calling, even directed at someone who fully deserves it. I make a special exemption for this one from Sen. Duckworth, who has fully earned the right to mock Trump on this issue.

So he signs bills that cross his desk after being written and approved by Congress. BFD. And that only because David Shulkin is kind of amazing in his job, able to cut through the congressional bullshit.

Still, 50k vets are homeless. 20 commit suicide on an average day. And his way to make thing better is to hold a self-aggrandizing victory parade. While we're still at war on several fronts and he's sabre-rattling at North Korea.

Trump calls POWs losers for getting captured. Thats what's in his heart. Tell me, aside from politically expedient signatures, what he has actually done? What, through his own initiative, has he done to improve things for Vets?

I would like our vets to get good health care. I say good because that would be a huge step up from what they get now. id also like vets to never have to pay property tax in their life after service. Maybe even sales tax.

My preference is that he work through Congress and not sign more goddamn Executive Orders. All of the things I quoted seem like positive benefits for Vets and an improvement. Is there some solution to the 50k homeless vets or 20 suicides on an average day? Obama had 8 years, did he solve this problem and Trump brought it back?

What does Obama have to do with this? I'm so sick of the equivalency requirement. But I'll bite. Obama didn't demand a military parade in his own honor under the transparent guise of honoring the military.

But what can Trump do outside of signing bills on stage at veterans conventions? He can stop with his self-serving, abusive tweets and use the platform to promote support for vets. He can stop attacking congressional vets and calling them traitors. He can stop with the idiotic bluster that does nothing but increase the likelihood of conflict and creating more dead and disabled vets. He can stop decimating organizations that provide actual support for our military, like the State Department and intelligence organizations.

Honesty, there's a lot he can do for vets and active service personnel by just sitting on his hands and letting the adults handle things.

You'd think that for someone that lived through the debilitating pain of bone spurs for 40+ years at that point, this surgery wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

So because Obama didn't have a parade or send stupid tweets he somehow helped homeless Vets and reduced their suicide rates? Again, I'm pretty sure signing those bills is going to have a positive impact on Vets. Even if they were written and passed by Congress first, Cadet Shin Splints still signed them. Even that must meet your bar of "sitting on his hands and letting the adults handle things", right?

How about you also quote something like this Politico article from a couple of months ago, that describes Trump's VA appointee trying to take money away from the vet homelessness programs? Or the fact that he tried to cut Individual Unemployability benefits to disabled veterans? He signs the piece of paper on his desk but it's meaningless because his administration inevitably tries to cut funding to every program that he touts as "tremendously successful".
