That's Rip's current stance to avoid taking any responsibility for Trump's bullshit. Rip was a Trump early adopter but doesn't have the stones to actually defend any of the bullshit he tries to sell. Which makes him and Trump the same, in a way.

I have a ton of Trump-voting co-workers who take that stance. "Well, he probably needs to stop tweeting, but he's got the economy booming again." As if his tweeting was just a funny personality quirk, and not the symptoms of a madman who is almost single-handedly destroying our country.

What do they say when you point out that the economy isn’t booming again (or doing anything differently than it was over a year ago)?

Republican tax policy and good old-fashioned Keynesian spending are expected to goose GDP by 0.3-0.5% this year -- a sugar high for the ruling class that one hopes won't cause too hard a crash when inflation and interest rates chase the deficits uphill. Trump has had only marginal influence on those policies. But consumer sentiment is another big factor in economic growth, and Trump has inspired that in his followers. The economy will remain strong through the November elections, and might even avoid contraction through the next presidential race, and us peasants will enjoy some extra crumbs while that continues. So he legitimately deserves some small credit for that.
I just spent $925 on a laptop when a $500 machine would have met my needs because I'm confident that my business will grow enough this year to pay for the extravagance. Thanks, Trump!

There was a scuffle over the nuclear football during Trump's trip to China. How they kept a lid on it is anyone's guess. Can you imagine if this happened during Obama's administration? The investigation would still be going.
I've spoken to five sources familiar with the events. Here's what happened, as they describe it:
When the U.S. military aide carrying the nuclear football entered the Great Hall, Chinese security officials blocked his entry. (The official who carries the nuclear football is supposed to stay close to the president at all times, along with a doctor.)
A U.S. official hurried into the adjoining room and told Kelly what was happening. Kelly rushed over and told the U.S. officials to keep walking — "We're moving in," he said — and the Americans all started moving.
Then there was a commotion. A Chinese security official grabbed Kelly, and Kelly shoved the man’s hand off of his body. Then a U.S. Secret Service agent grabbed the Chinese security official and tackled him to the ground.
The whole scuffle was over in a flash, and the U.S. officials told about the incident were asked to keep quiet about it. Trump's team followed the normal security procedure to brief the Chinese before their visit to Beijing, according to a person familiar with the trip — but somebody at the Chinese end either didn't get the memo or decided to mess with the Americans anyway.

This is funny, it's the presidential greatness survey. Trump comes in dead last. I'm hoping for some tweets, but it probably isn't big enough to attract his attention. The funnier part is that even among Republican/conservative historians he was 40th, surpassing only Buchanan, Pierce and Harrison. As bad as Trump is, until he contributes to a Civil War that kills over a million Americans, I'll cut him some slack and let him slip into 43rd place.
On a side note, what's with the low ranking of Harrison? He was only President for a few weeks,
during which I believe he was sick most of the time myth. It is a greatness survey, so I suppose he didn't do anything to deserve points.
Also of interest is that Republican/conservatives rate George Washington higher than Lincoln, while Democrats/liberals put Lincoln higher. He may not be the founder of the Republican party, but would the party have survived without his leadership through the Civil War? The love fest from the party of Lincoln appears to be over. Or would be if this wasn't a survey of 200 of the greatest history nerds.

It's hard to rate Trump based on one year in office. He's probably the most corrupt president ever, and possibly the least intelligent and the most mentally unbalanced. He's probably a stooge for a foreign adversary. The damage that he's already done will take years or decades to overcome. So he belongs near the bottom based on that alone. Worst, though? Maybe if he can maintain this trajectory for another three years. If I were pressed to rank him, I'd probably put him at the bottom, too, but that's largely because we're still going through this nightmare -- the ultimate recency effect.
Obama advancing to 8th place will give Trump conniptions if he is allowed to see this poll.

Why let a thing like habeas corpus get in the way of fighting a Civil War? Without a doubt George Washington should be the greatest President. He set the
precendents for the job. The most important being retiring after 2 terms. If he had gone a 3rd term he would have died in office and that would have been a terrible precedent. His
Farewell Address might have been written by Hamilton, but it should still be required reading for all Presidential candidates.

Our president has to have
notes to get through a meeting with the survivors:
While Trump listened to the survivors and their parents' calls for stricter gun control, the president held a notecard apparently containing talking points and social niceties.
"I hear you," read bullet point No. 5.
The top two items on the list were questions: "What would you most want me to know about your experience?" and "What can we do to help you feel safe?"

Of course someone else wrote the cue cards for him.
