Came down hard on one gear without much flare (again, sounds like wind.) That may have been the luckiest plane crash since Cap'n Sully - when the gear collapsed, the wing hit, which tore it off and caused it to roll. Bleeding off speed with the roll while the fuel tanks were lying on the ground behind it is likely a big part of why nobody died.

It looks like their descent rate increased right about the time they were going to flare. It feels like a microburst, but that's just a guess.

I've heard that wings (and the fuel tanks they contain) are designed to break away under collision stress (such as with the runway) rather than clinging to and pouring burning fuel into the passenger cabin.

This plane flipped because the wing broke off on landing, but that feature saved everyone's lives.

Possibly - the wing may instead have broken off because the plane was flipping. But yes - that's what saved the lives.

We should all hope to be lucky to be saved when the Right Wing explodes.

On a plane. I'm absolutely talking about a plane here.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

We're looking forward to a warmup next week with several days of highs above freezing. We could even top 40 degrees on Tuesday! A little preview of spring will be most welcome.

Weird weather today. We left at 10am to drive over to the other coast to go to a dinner theater. It was raining at 10am and rained the whole day till we got to the theater at 6pm. Sometimes it was just drizzling, sometimes a more medium rain. When we left the theater at 9:30am (Jimmy Buffet tribute band, very good) it was drizzling. It did stop raining for awhile on the drive back, but once past Orlando it started raining significantly again. It's just now stopping at 2am, so that's about 28 hours of some amount of rain falling . Very weird and unusual for us here in Central Florida.

It hit 42 degrees today. 42! That's almost short-sleeve weather. Last fall some impressive potholes started to develop at my driveway's low point, where the creek runs. It's been nice and smooth all winter thanks to compacted snow and ice, so I'm ambivalent about the prospect of it melting. Maybe mud season will fill in the holes.

I walked across the road to the store in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt today. It always amazes me how harsh and soul-chilling this weather feels at the beginning of autumn, but how downright comfortable it is after the worst of winter.

I went another winter without breaking out my coat or boots. And I really should have, especially after last week's storm. But thankfully I didn't have frequent cause to be out of doors this year.

70 today. jus ta few days ago I was having to run 4 heaters overnight thanks to it being in the low teens. My Fab power bill was $266. Thanx to me forgetting to sign up for energy assitance on my power bill late last year.

Im hoping it doesn't take all my money this next month

After more than a week of high temps in the 20s and our world covered in ice, it's up to 45 already today and I just finished a run outside for the first time in more than a month. I know winter isn't done with us yet, but even a little taste of spring is nice.

We had a cold front with a strong squall line move through Central Florida today. No fatalities but at least one home totally demolished.

Upper 60's today, wore Hawaiian shirt for the first time this year. But not shorts, as it was 34 degrees when I left the house this morning.
