Going to one of Mike Doughty's "living room" shows. Someone offers their house, and you see what city he's coming to, then you see the address if you buy a ticket. The host gets Mike Doughty in their house. Mike Doughty gets the full ticket price (or something like that). Turns out the one I'm going to is actually in a trendy new office space downtown. Fifty people on the guest list, that's it.

That sounds awesome. Some of my favorite artists have offered similar concerts over the years - I came very close to trying to scrounge up the $$$ to have Kristin Hersh or Frank Orrall (from Poi Dog Pondering) visit my house.

In one of the most bizarre turn of events in my career, my company will be paying for me (and a +1) to go on the
70,000 Tons of Metal cruise in February.
I've already asked Mrs. Skinypupy, and her response was "that sounds like a fantastic time...for you and a friend".

Best company paid trip!!!
I'm thinking of going next year. We went this past February and the karaoke with Cannibal Corpse was epic. Worth the price of the cruise in itself.

Next year, as in the February 2016 cruise? Or the 2017 run?

Perhaps, although I doubt my wife would allow me to make this an annual thing. She has already made me promise to take her on a "real" cruise sometime next year.

I've been thinking about getting tix for his show but for some reason I'm on the fence. And he's playing here before he's playing there so I won't be able to ask you how the show was first...

I'm sure we have crappy seats (I set a $150 limit on the seats when he was picking them up) but it will be great to both see them, as well as road trip with Joe.
My ex just got back from Detroit for the Rush 40 concert. She said it was absolutely amazing.
I went to see them in NJ at the end of June, even delaying my vacation trip so that I would not miss the show.
It was probably the single best show I've ever seen. Too bad we'll probably never see them tour like that again. I took all my kids (18, 14, 12) too, since they all like Rush to some degree.

My wife and I saw him play solo before. It's a good show, although much more low key than a Hold Steady show. If you're expecting to hear a lot of Hold Steady (or Lifter Puller), you'll be disappointed. He focuses on his solo stuff (or he did at the show we saw).
For my wife's birthday, I got her a running date with Finn (via PledgeMusic.com), and I imagine it will happen when he's in Chicago for that show. It should be pretty cool.

Taking the family to see him this weekend at the Zoo. Should be a great show - as long as the weather cooperates. Current forecast is 75 and sunny.

at Bumbershoot, going to see Dead Moon, The Melvins, Moon Hooch, Social Distortion, Faith No More and possibly Neko Case (and whatever else i can get in) on Sunday. would also add Lee "Scratch" Perry to that list, but he's on the same time as Melvins and i've seen him like four times already.
full three-day lineup

I would have no logical or non-emotional way of choosing between Scratch and Melvins...I wish I faced such a dilemma!

the printed schedule was wrong and i actually got to see Lee Perry for three minutes, haha. managed also to see parts of Hibou and The Cave Singers.
here's someone's photos, who went to some of the sets i was at.
Faith No More was *really good. i've seen Mike Patton with Mr. Bungle and Dan the Automator's Lovage (and Roddy Bottum with Imperial Teen twice), so i'm glad to finally see them - would go again. they invited the entire audience to hang with them at a local bar after the show (which was completely full with a line coming out the door when i went).
Dead Moon's set was cut short by
Fred keeling over due to some sort of medical issue - complications from heart surgery, it seems... hope he's all right. (EDIT: just checked, and he has stabilized:

Just got back from seeing AC/DC in Detroit tonite. Damn, that was a helluva show! Angus was on fire and Im not sure where the hell he gets all of that energy at his age but he was a crazy man. They had an excellent stage set. Huge video screens that wrapped the stage made it easy for everyone to get a great view of the show. They played a few songs off their latest album but for the most part it was a greatest hits show. With AC/DC you pretty much know exactly what youre getting, hard driving rock and roll. They started up at 8:45 and played til 11 so we got a solid 2 hours plus of music. If you have plans to see them this tour get ready for a solid 2 hour run of nothing but rock.

This show was Saturday, last on his living room tour to my knowledge before going to the UK. He did it as all-request and exchanged a lot of casual dialogue with the crowd between songs. It really was like he came over to your house and sat with you. No mic, no amp. Very cool.

Oh yeah, I think I'll be going to see that.

for the making of the last album, Ozzy was basically like 'we wanted to make it work, but he can't do it anymore'. i don't think Tommy and Geezer were too happy about that. i suppose they'll get Mike Bordin of Faith No More?

The article I read said Ozzy's touring drummer will be joining them but it didn't mention Bordin by name...but I assume it'll be him.

Not a concert per se, but I'm going to see Chris Hadfield give a talk on October 9th. There's a possibility there could be a musical performance involved as he's working on releasing an album.

Long shot, but if anyone here is a member of the Iron Maiden fanclub and gets the presale code for Chicago and isn't going to use it, I'd love to get in early for tickets for their show at the United Center.
Have a feeling all the good seats will be gone by the time the public gets a shot at them.

I think I've gotten presale codes for their concerts in the past, without being a member.
Did you look at the official forums?
I'm anxiously looking forward to this tour myself.

Well, I was right about Chris Hadfield
Actually, I never was able to get tickets for the 9th, since the organizers made it a free event, making it first-come first-serve, giving out more tickets than there were seats and then turning people away even if they had tickets :/
But as it turns out, I was attending Space Week in the next town over where he was a special guest and speaker and everything turned out for the better. Got to meet him, got a book signed and attended his talk at night. At the end, he surprised everyone by singing, including his famous cover of Space Oddity, the one that went viral a few years back. Just all around awesome and inspirational. Recommend anyone see him if given the chance.

Went and saw Dick Dale - the King of the Surf guitar last night.
Oh. My. God. What an incredible show! The old man can still bring it @ 78 years old. Even Bob Weir came out of hiding to watch for a bit at his club the Sweetwater in Mill Valley.
Long live the King!

Tonight is the Craig Finn show. Looking forward to it.
Side note - he did a PledgeMusic thing for his latest solo release where you could pledge money to get extras, including t-shirts, signed stuff, or personal experiences. I got my wife a "running excursion with Craig" thing, and he did it when he was in town a few weeks ago. He met my wife at our house, and they went running on a local jogging trail. He's just as approachable and down-to-earth as his stage persona would seem, and my wife had a really good time. She was nervous that she wouldn't have anything to talk about, but it went really well. It was interesting for her to get his perspective on music stuff, but also to just hear about his life.

Did you ever buy tickets for the show?
I randomly looked today and alot of venues still have decent seats available. Pricey, but seats can be had.
I'm considering spending upwards of $200 for a ticket. There are only a handful of acts I'd do that for. And Maiden is one.
