Glad to hear it is using the Imperium gameplay from someone who has tried both! Thanks!

The only downside of the Imperium games is that they are NOT shorter games in any way, shape or form. I almost tossed Horizons out the window after a game that took almost 7 hours for 3 players. I hope they streamline some things to reduce that.
AWS260 wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2024 2:12 pm and I found that the Star Trek theming really helped for understanding and tracking the functions of the different decks and cards. Even with a super-basic online interface, it was easier for me to pick up than Imperium had been. I think it'll be a good game.

Sounds like what Star Trek: Frontiers did for Mage Knight. Although I love both.

Man, I'm going to be all over that. I enjoyed Imperium just fine, but I think a Star Trek theme would really amp my interest up for multiple replays.

As a side note to all this, I also noticed they have a game up for preorder that is supposedly a take on the old Tales of the Arabian Nights. Since that was one of the very first board games I played after getting back into it about 15 or so years ago, I'm very interested. But I'll wait for reviews as this type of game lives and dies based on the quality of the writing.

It's set in the world of King Arthur and is called Tales of the Arthurian Knights.

Did a huge game purge this weekend after repainting the office and wanting to declutter. Got rid of around 50 games. Most of them are going to friends in my gaming circle, so they'll stay "in the family." It felt good to finally get rid of some stuff, and it opened up an entire 8-cube organizer worth of space. My game buying has slowed down quite a bit, so hopefully it will be awhile before I fill it back up.

I'm a bit fascinated by a game from Hollandspiele I just read about a few days ago.

City of Six Moons is...a game. What kind of game is a mystery. By design. You see, the rules are all in....well, I'll let the game synopsis sum it up.

City of Six Moons is an alien civilization game in both senses: a solitaire game in which the player guides the destiny of an alien civilization, and a game from an alien civilization.

Inside the box you will find the components needed to play the game, and a rulebook written entirely in symbols and icons. You will need to decipher the game's rules yourself. You will never know whether you've gotten it right or not. No mechanisms are listed on this page. The designer will never answer any rules questions.
This sounds utterly fascinating. Anyone ever played it before? Or attempted to play it?

I think I may have to order a copy.

That sounds horrible for me, especially if there is no way to know if I interpreted the rules correctly.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the designer just threw a bunch of random symbols in the manual with no rhyme or reason?

I appreciate originality and any attempt to bring something new to the genre. It may not work, who knows. But I'd rather someone try something completely different and fail than keep churning out the same concept over and over and over again.

I'm not saying the concept isn't good. In my pre brain damage days I would have tried it but now I can see myself getting VERY overwhelmed and frustrated.
If there was some sort of confirmation that I interpreted it correctly I might still try it, but never knowing is going to kill me.

If I have to lawyer on my fun day, it's a fail. I'd rather use the "rule of reason" and look up the rule later to keep the gameplay going.

Don't make me act like a rules lawyer, you wouldn't like me as a rules lawyer.

My buddy and I took the next two days off of work to do nothing but play board games in the backlog. Right now we have Sky Team, Weirdwood Manor, Tesseract, and The Incvincibles lined up. More are possible, time permitting. I'll post impressions in the what did you play thread after this marathon is over. :D

Just opened a brand new bottle of Tamiya extra thin cement to start building models and after finishing the first one, promptly knocked it over, dumping half the bottle on my cutting mat and desk.

Would not recommend.

That's the reason that I got myself a 3D-printed holder for Tamiya cements on Etsy (before I had my own printer.) It's no longer available, but it was a little like this

If you don't have access to a printer, I'd be more than happy to print something up and send it your way.

Thanks for that. I have a buddy that is always asking for things to print, so now that's added to the pile.

I (now) keep my Citadel pots in a holder and after 12+ years of model building this was a first. Definitely going to start using one.

I'd actually suggest this one. It handles both the square and hex shaped Tamiya bottles.

The first 3D-printed item I ever bought was a GW paint pot holder with a piece on the back to hold the lid open. That thing was a life saver.

I'm getting ready to sell off more of my board games and RPGs at my FLGS auction again. It's been a while since I've done a sale there, but I have needs to clean out shelf space for all of the terrain I have been putting together. I'm going to be pretty brutal about this culling, many of these are darlings I've kept because I love the game but SO many of them I haven't played in over 5 years and I can't see them jumping off the shelf for me to play. It's going to be rough.

I would love to sell some of my games too. I don't have a FLGS near me that has an auction. Is there a way to know what stores in Tennessee, Kentucky, or Georgia have these auctions? I can't seem to find any.

And, I got so sidetracked with my 3D printing tasks this weekend that I didn't get my games gathered and out there and they've already cut off accepting board games.

Boo.

I dropped off 45 games on Saturday morning. That brings me up to almost a hundred games I've dumped since the beginning of the year...and I STILL have well over two hundred games. :(

Of course, in organizing and lugging over 5 giant bins of games, I ended up spraining my back and now I'm miserable.

See, you're part of the problem now. The GP auction used to be this nice little secret pleasure/way to get rid of old stuff. Now you're in there sucking up all of the space and money!

(Kidding, of course. Hope they all sell well!)
