Can I expect this to continue? Can I get in and steal the vessel? Or is that a spoiler? Should I stop asking questions?
I looked there as well. It didn't show up in any category. I was just wondering if this was a feature...Unagi wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 8:31 pm Any chance it was listed as an activity?
Still that would then turn into a mission I think.
It's got a thumb hole so sure.
This turned into a very interesting mission. After fighting on the ground at two separate landing locations, I had to go into orbit at two planets to defeat more Spacers, and then for a grand finale I went back to the main ground location and had to fight my way in past the besieging Spacers. And to make it more interesting, while I was fighting, twice a Spacer ship landed and dropped off reinforcements, never seen that in a mission before.jztemple2 wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 7:44 pm I've had a bit of a weird situation. I was in orbit doing a survey when I got a mayday call to assist a site on the surface that was being arrested by Spacers. I got a popup with the text you usually see in the upper left describing the mission, but no option to press and hold "L" make it the active mission. I did respond and landed and turned out to be quite and involved mission with multiple intermediate objectives. What I never got was that little blue hexagon that shows where to go to the objective. As the objective changed I repeatedly checked the mission lists but this mission never did show up, so I've never had that hexagon at all. Very weird. Anyone else ever see this?
What you're describing sounds a lot like the Groundpounder mission, which should be listed as a Misc Mission. If it isn't, maybe something bugged out and the log entry wasn't created when the mission triggered. Here is what it looks like in my mission log (spoilered for the mission stage details):jztemple2 wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 10:44 pmThis turned into a very interesting mission. The AI was also pretty sharp. I opened up from a distance on a half dozen Spacers walking in from the landing zone. A couple stayed upright and shot back, two crouched and fired, and the other two moved to cover. Pretty clever.
The one that triggered the bug for me was a dust storm.Smoove_B wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 6:08 pm I don't remember the location, no...but I am pretty sure a storm was involved. I was probably chasing a temple as those planets/locations always seem to be a genuine pain the space-ass to navigate. Acid clouds. Lightning fog. Electrical snow. I've seen things.
Maybe, just maybe for a lefty (based on the taper of the thumb hole), but it would be uncomfortable. And it's a shotgun, so you could only fire it once. After that, you wouldn't be able to hold it anymore, as your thumb would be in a cast.
What cracks me up is that's a shotgun pistol...with a hole to stick your thumb in. You pull that trigger once and you're gonna be down one digit...Blackhawk wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 11:11 pmMaybe, just maybe for a lefty (based on the taper of the thumb hole), but it would be uncomfortable. Or over there, on the ground.

I've most certainly experienced day/night cycles everywhere and there is a very obvious difference. Head-scratcher.
I don't think I understand what you are saying.

Play the game, complete missions, collect valuable weapons and equipment and sell them.hepcat wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 12:41 pm I'm still flying the space version of a 1973 AMC Gremlin.![]()
How the hell do you people afford new ships?
I was wondering the same thing for a while, then I started a mission that involved lots of bad guys. I'm getting all their stuff and because I'm more of a sneak and "slice the pie" kind of guy I'm managing my O2 levels even while carrying all their weapons, space suits, and packs.coopasonic wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:02 pmPlay the game, complete missions, collect valuable weapons and equipment and sell them.hepcat wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 12:41 pm I'm still flying the space version of a 1973 AMC Gremlin.![]()

I would note though that I never bought a ship. At the end of my first playthrough I had 6 ships without stealing or purchasing any, just quest rewards. Also stealing landed ships is pretty easy and can turn a decent profit when you have a few spares. You don't even have to worry about bounties if you are stealing Spacer ships.
I got that one....then realized that after registering it, I ended up making a profit of only about 10 grand or so.Madmarcus wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:13 pm I my case the Ecliptic guys left the keys in the ignition.
Stolen goods don't get picked up on scanners in my experience. If you boosted an Ecliptic ship, odds are that there was some contraband sitting around in the middle of the vendor junk somewhere and that's what the scan detected. In general, each of the hostile NPC factions have a flavor of contraband that they favor. In the case of Ecliptics, it tends to be war-crime-adjacent technology, like mech parts or bio-weapons.hepcat wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:30 pmI got that one....then realized that after registering it, I ended up making a profit of only about 10 grand or so.Madmarcus wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:13 pm I my case the Ecliptic guys left the keys in the ignition.
Also, when I flew it into orbit of a populated world to sell it, I was scanned and accosted by space cops. I had registered the ship, so I wasn't sure what the hell was going on. So I loaded a save from before that and searched everything. Turns out I'd taken a med pack from the ecliptic ship before taking it over and it was flagged as stolen.
Space cops have EXCELLENT scanners...
Last night I had to make a run back and forth and back again between a captured ship and my original home ship because <spoilers>, so I can say with some certainty that as long as you don't launch either ship, they both remain on the ground where they landed. The spare ship doesn't seem to be hauled off to the hangar until you take off in whichever one you're going to use.Tampa_Gamer wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:34 pm (10) now you should have your crew and cargo back to ship A, and if you check your ship roster your prize crew brought ship B back to your virtual hangar while you ran back to ship A (technically it is probably still sitting where you left it, but at least this is how I like to think about it).
Starfield's community keeps getting smarter with their ship builds—we've had AI-exploiting nightmares made of corners, ladderless flat discs, and some sci-fi classics. But what about the little guys of the universe—pilots who don't want some big, fancy warship with 500 autocannons?
That's exactly who these players are repping. The tiny ship trend's here to stay—well, sort of. Cute as these spacefaring bugs may be, most don't have much room for cargo without mods. Still, I'm tempted to cobble one of these together for my fleet.
Starfield Steam reviews give a lower rating to the new Bethesda space adventure than almost any other game the studio has produced in the last 20 years, including the often-criticized Fallout 76, notorious for the bugs and performance issues that it experienced during launch. Fallout 4, Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3 all have higher ratings based on user feedback, according to aggregated scores on Steam DB. Nevertheless, Starfield continues to attract a large number of players on Steam, with Bethesda announcing it is the studio’s biggest launch ever in terms of users.

If you're on Steam I recommend using Steam Notes. Shift-Tab to bring up the interface in-game, write your note, and Shift-Tab to dismiss. That's how I took notes on all the safes and locked doors in Fallout 4 when I was not at the right level to unlock them.jztemple2 wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 4:40 pm With my 125 hoursin on the game, I'll share a tip that I've been using. Sometimes you'll have multiple Skills where you are trying to rank up and so need to accumulate things like pickpocketing or destroying ships. I've started keeping a hand-written list to remind me of these as I cruise around doing missions and surveying, etc. It helps to remember that, for instance, if I'm waiting for something to occur, I can always do a little pickpocketing

This.....and I dont even own the game yet. Also I think Everspace 2 let you upload your custom ships to them and they would make a model of it and ship it to you at a certain price.Blackhawk wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:22 pm It still amazes me that they didn't include a ship export/share option. It would have been really, really popular.
Blizzard did this first (as far as I know) with World of Warcraft. There used to be a few third-party companies that would do this with almost any game - they'd just take the 3d model for your character and tweak it for a 3d printer. There are still a few that do it for specific games. You just send them your save and they send you the model. It's become less popular since so many people have 3d printers at home, and there are lots of 'how to' tutorials to DIY.Daehawk wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:32 pmThis.....and I dont even own the game yet.
