Horrifying: Bagram Airfield Crash

Seven dead in that crash. It's easy to see a nose-high, low-airspeed situation resulting in a stall that ends with the crash. The real investigation will be to see what caused that situation.

At approximately 7 a.m. EST, National Flight NCR102 from Bagram to Dubai, UAE with seven crewmembers on board crashed on takeoff. None of the crew members survived. This was a purely cargo flight and no passengers were aboard. Cargo consisted of vehicles and routine general cargo.

National will release additional information as it becomes available, in cooperation with government authorities. Our focus at this time is on the family members of those we've lost, and on assisting the NTSB and Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority in their investigations. As of now, the cause of the accident is unknown.

That's one crazy crash. I'd be surprised if it was pilot error. I can imagine them trying to gain control and get the nose down and the engines up as it is almost perched there at the top of it's ascent.

Top Gear Clarkson and the boys go for a ride in Spitfires over England . I think thats the happiest I've ever seen Clarkson. Im sure if it was a P51 he'd be bitchin and calling it names.

The F-15 in the opening has BT tail letters. We were stationed at Bitburg in the late 70s and my father was one of the first 100 crew chiefs on the (then) new birds.

And James May got to ride in one previously when he was filming the Airfix episode of Toy Stories.

I was just watching him fly in a U2 spy plane.

HERE is a Sopwith Camel flying with a Spitfire. the camel is at full throttle and the Spitfire at stall speed. Amazing how far aircraft advanced in just 20 years. And watching the Camel fly it strikes me that as slow as it is that at the time it was new it must have been a speed demon. you could go from your country over the line to the next to fight in a few minutes.

I wonder if those are the Irish spitfires that were converted trainers. IIRC my grandfather flew one of them (before it was converted to a two seater) at the end of the war. I'll have to ask my uncle who has the flight log to confirm again as I can't find the details....

While I agree that it's a great video, and that it has a lot of potential as a movie idea, it also runs very much counter to Bill Watterson's artistic vision and beliefs about marketing his characters.

Though the more I think about it, it's in keeping with his desire to not want any definitive answer to the question of Hobbes being real/not real.
