Re: Fast Food Foofaraw
So I had some coupons for Yakisoba and Ramen in a cup/bowl ending up costing like $.40 a piece. Not the $.10 in 2000's money you'd pay for for Ramen blocks with the tiny packets of flavoring but pretty close and designed to be larger self contained portions. I have to say, neither is a very satifsying way to take in 400-500 calories and that Yakisoba is better tasting and seems to be naturally prepared to be less soupy than Ramen even if they look pretty much the same when you start. Still, for 500 calories I need a more filling or more satisfying junk food experience than what Yakisoba provides. It *does* make me want to get a higher quality Yakisoba and learn how to prep it on a bun like you see in the cartoons. Heavy carbs served in heavy carbs, presumably prepped in some sort of savory fat way sounds awesome, though I bet one bun full is all the food I'd get for a day at this stage in life.

I've been using Lose it! as well and learned that bread products really need to be a treat rather than a staple. I can't wait until I get to my final state so I can get those extra calories back and maybe have it once a week rather than once a month.

Lose It! has taught me that bread, pasta, cheese, and dressing condiments are all treats that need to budgeted for carefully. An egg 90 calories. An egg with cheese 170 calories. An egg with cheese on two slices of bread grilled in butter aka a grilled cheese with egg. 350 calories. Back when I was only eating about 1800 calories a day, that and my sugar and creamed coffee for a total of 460 was a big breakfast budget. I'm finally to the point where 500-600 calories for breakfast should be expected most days. I was up to about 3400 glorious calories a day but then my activity tanked and my weight reacted... poorly, so I'm back down to about 2400 again until I get back in alignment. The gain in weight wouldn't bother me if I suspected I was rebuilding muscle but I don't think that's the case.

I don't like salad dressing, so salads have been my go-to in order to feel un-hungry (can't really say full as I haven't truly felt that since I started...although it's probably better to say that what I used to think of as feeling full was really well past actually being full). One can eat a lot of lettuce, carrots, and cucumbers for very few calories.
Did you ever try to figure out how many calories it decreased you allotment for each pound you lost? I'm thinking it's about 6. I'm trying to project what my budget will be when I get to my goal and I think it's going to be a startling 1450/day (I'm on the "lose 1.5lbs/week" plan). That's not a lot.

That depends on your activity level I think. My goal was only to lose a half pound a week but at the 5000 steps a day base. six calories per pound doesn't sound too far off. My weight loss was fantastic at first eating around 2200 as a base and then slowly dropping to about 1800 over the course of a year and a half was fantastic. I don't think I could have made it at 1450. I'm nearly 600 days into this and I'm still food obsessed and my body thinks I'm hungry all of the time.stessier wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 3:43 pm I don't like salad dressing, so salads have been my go-to in order to feel un-hungry (can't really say full as I haven't truly felt that since I started...although it's probably better to say that what I used to think of as feeling full was really well past actually being full). I'm using the Somewhat Active plan which says is equivalent to walking 3 miles/day. Not exactly sure what that comes out to in steps. I'm also using the "Weekend Eater" plan where it lowers the daily number for 5 days so I can have an extra about 250/day for Friday and Saturday (since those are the days my family likes to eat out). It's amazing how nice 250 calories can be. I also have been running 6 days a week and only allowing myself 150 calories from those runs so I can drink a Gatorade when I'm done (even though I'm up to 7 miles/day). The week before Thanksgiving is the current target for hitting the goal weight, which is amusing as I'd go into maintenance mode and get like an extra 700 calories/day (before working out) just in time for the holidays.LordMortis wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:05 pmThat depends on your activity level I think. They ball park it at 7500 steps. If you link it to your pedometer after you exceed 7500 steps you get around 3 bonus calories added to your budget for around every 100 steps you take beyond that. I think if you manually or link other exercise tracking, it will also add calories. I don't do any of that but I do have my steps linked from my iPhone Health.stessier wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:16 pm I'm using the Somewhat Active plan which says is equivalent to walking 3 miles/day. I didn't experiment with the weekend eater. I'm too much of a rules follower. I either obsess or I don't.

The built in health tracker does not allot for running steps burning more calories than steps. I'm OK with that as a crazy heavy high day of exercise might burn an extra 500 calories in a day and I'm not one who regularly does a crazy heavy high day of exercise.
If you were me and jogging 7 miles a day, that would add about 225 calories to my budget at "somewhat active" with 7 miles being close 15000 steps or about 7500 steps of bonus calories.
Maintenance mode was sooooo sweet to achieve. I hit mine right around Turkey day last year and at the same time my activity level was going up, so it was literally food Christmas for me.

Re: Fast Food Foofaraw
I linked my Garmin watch. At 7 miles a day and having a job and all, I usually end up around 20k steps. The system says I'm usually allowed between 500-750 extra depending on how hard I did the run. But like I said, I try to keep it to just the celebratory Gatorade as I'm not confident on how many calories the run actually burns.LordMortis wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:26 pm The built in health tracker does not allot for running steps burning more calories than steps. Arby's has some kind of "beef week" promotion going on right now with 5 regular beef sandwiches for $5 if ordered in the app. I'm going to try that tomorrow if I'm not too lazy to leave the house. Long time since I stopped at Arby's. I used to stop and get a jamocha shake for my mom once in awhile, haven't been there since then. I do like the horsey sauce.
Maybe this should be the cheap fast food that I miss & try to replicate thread.

Subway is expanding its menu with more footlong snacks
Subway’s footlong cookies were so popular they had a shortage. Now, the chain is hoping to replicate that success with savory new companions.
Beginning Tuesday, three new 12-inch long additions are arriving, called Dippers. They use Subway’s flatbread, rolled up with pepperoni and cheese, chicken and cheese or double cheese, and served hot. The $3 rollups are part of its Sidekicks menu, adding to its successful lineup of giant cookies, churros and soft pretzels.
Value is a major factor in the expansion of Sidekicks. Many fast food chains are releasing new menu items and discounts to lure back cash-strapped consumers, especially low-income consumers who are dining out less often and spending less when they do.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Sounds good. I'd given up on Subway after trying Firehouse and never went back. This item sounds good and is priced right if they have good dipping sauces for them.

I really like Sonic's new Groovy Fries any size for $1 right now. Sort of a french fry with a hash brownish texture on the outside.
Tuesday is a good evening for Sonic. Half price cheeseburger after 5:30 on tuesdays, $1 groovy fry, and half price shakes after 7:00 all in the app. Not limited to one deal only like McDonalds.

Part of the appeal of fast food in Florida used to be the air conditioned seating, not so much anymore. Finished mowing my cousins yard, and stopped by Sonic to take advantage of their best deals Tuesday. It was hotter in Sonic's totally empty seating area than it was outside. No more respite from the heat. Really not fond of eating in the car. Previously found similar conditions in BK too.
That video is pretty funny! Like the old coffee commercials in the UK.

McDonald’s $5 Value Meal Intensifies a Fast Food Price War
On June 25, McDonald’s will kick off a marketing campaign and a new $5 meal deal, raising the stakes as US restaurants vie to lure back inflation-weary diners.
“We’re committed to winning the value war,” Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s US, said in an interview with Bloomberg News.
Last month, after Bloomberg News reported on McDonald’s plans for the $5 promotion, competitors came back with their own deals — and insults.
Burger King’s US president pledged to roll out its $5 value meal “before they do,” alluding to McDonald’s in a memo to franchisees. Wendy’s Co. pushed out a $3 breakfast offer and took to social media to mock its competitors for copying its ideas. Even Starbucks, known for its pricey Frappuccinos and lattes, said it would offer a $6 breakfast sandwich and coffee combo.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I suspect you will be very disappointed with the quantity of food you get for $5 when compared to what you got 20-50 years ago for the same price.
