If the racism doesn't convince you to join, how about a Snickers bar?
That's not even a snicker's. It's snicker's peanutbutter, isn't it. Blech. The very idea the Frasier is within commuting distance from my house makes me week.
You know it. Though there are others. The problem is country hasn't been played on country radio since I was very little. Even on satellite radio, with it's 30 different country stations, exposure is very limited.

I LOVE classic country. I can't describe the hatred I have for what is called "country" music now.

I know it's cliche to say but I blame Eagles. Country tanked when Urban Cowboy Saturday Night Feverized it and they did it with Eagles leading the way. I'd like to say I'm all about fusing different musics together but when country lost its way when it grew to adapt to pop and rock and country radio never found its way back. Which is not say there isn't excellent country out there (for my tastes). I just never found it on the radio. And for years, I was convinced the beast didn't exist until I happened upon by accident through the satire but not satire because the love was really there of Goober and the Peas. Truly getting them opened the door Supersuckers and Road Kings and Reverend Horton Heat and countless others who took back the soul of country and expressed it outside of radio, usually through some sort of homage to rockabilly, the original (for my money, literally) country pop crossover.

You are why we can't have nice things. Or even mediocre things.
If we gotta have country, I much prefer Isgrim's version to Conway's.

Nathaniel Rateliff
I know the name which suggests he must have some pop country love. If I can, I'll try to listen later today and see if my tune changes.

George Jones would have set that truck on fire while evading State Troopers and half the Sheriffs Department on the way to play at an illegal honky-tonk in a dry county.
How did Whatshisname in the pic do it?

I blame Hank Jr. and Alabama (the band, not the state).

Wait - Nathaniel Rateliff is considered country now? Allmusic.com describes the group as "A gritty, rootsy R&B and rock act fronted by the multifaceted singer and songwriter." That seems more on the nose to my ears.

Wiki listed him as folk; Americana, chich I consider to be country-adjacent. I can definitely see the Blues circa 1970s aspect.

I don't know their deep catalog by any stretch, but what I've heard falls more in line with "gritty, rootsy R&B and rock". I get the impression that "Americana" is losing its meaning as it's becoming a bit of a catch-all.

Your first post about country music was over an hour ago. What have you been doing with all that time?!?

Todays country sings about 4 things only...trucks, dirt, beer, and girls. Thats it.
What happened to the dog?
Last one I can recall is the early 90s ...Feed Jake. Makes me sad when I hear it still.

Obligatory Hank III take on current country music...this from a man who, due to his lineage, could easily have a seat at that table.

I was forced to walk out of a Hank III show, I dunno, a decade ago. The two bands opening were country (one was really sorts blue grass more than country) and fantastic. No idea who they were. My favorite song was "There ain't no Country on t'Country Radio". But Hank did about two hour set as Hank III. He started covering Grandpa and then covered daddy and then did Hank III song. They then took about a half hour break and came back as AssJack. His crowd was already wasted rowdy and about 10 minutes in to AssJack some people started busting beer bottles and I decided my safety was more important than seeing the whole show. AssJack, at that show, made A Mind is Terrible Thing to Taste era Ministry seem exceptionally tame and sane.
And I dunno if he still has the same bassist but the bassist in circa 2007ish or earlier has one of the most psychotic looking individuals I have ever seen in my lift.
The dude in your video is him. Dude gave me the chills watching him play.

CMT is always on one of the TVs at my gym, so I see a lot of country music videos with the sound off.
Judging from the videos alone, all women in country are basically rock divas doing the same act that rock divas have done since the 1980s.
The men come in two types:
1) Party bros showing off how much fun it is to rock out with trucks and beer and boats and motorcycles and girls in bikinis or Daisy Dukes.
2) Earnest/brooding/scowling angry cowboy men singing against a backdrop of American flags and flashback footage of gramps in WW2 and daddy in Vietnam and their brothers in Afghanistan.
That's basically it. Also, everyone is so unbelievably white that the exceptions (Darius Rucker, the occasional session musician, an audience dude clearly ordered from Central Casting) stand out all the more.

After watching him play for two hours, he's the stuff of fucking nightmares. It was hypnotic in its terror. The video doesn't do his presence justice but the pic comes close, if it were more intense and violently active for two hours straight (yet obviously having fun, making it all that much more terrifying and transfixing)

I got to grow up in the 70s and 80s. But though dad loved country and played it in the car all the time...when gospel wasn't...>I hated it. I was rock n roll all the way. I grew up though as I aged and by the mid 90s I could take some but then suddenly old style classic country was gone. Now I wish I could go back in time for George Jones, Charlie Pride, and such. At least we have YouTube and Willie is still around...sorta.

I like to say it is about the killer B's Beer, Babes, Booze and Bullets. Usually in that order. The more of he B's a song contains the better it is!
