That was my take.
My kid brought one home over the weekend and it is indeed a Very Large Cheez-It.

They said it tasted pretty much like a regular sized Cheez-It "only a little greasier."

This has been my second hand Very Large Cheez-It report.

In general I like Taco Bell but only a few specific menu items. This Cheez-It thing looks interesting until I remember that I don't actually care for Cheez-Its...

Also, years ago when they first introduced the "cantina menu" as a limited time promotion, I got a cantina burrito and it wasn't good at all (I think I vaguely remember the guac being weird slimy texture and ruining the rest of the burrito). So I never bothered with it again and went back to the tried and true favorites.

Last time I went there was a few months ago to grab breakfast, which was considerably more expensive and had less food than I remember.

Any smaller portions and they'll have to rename to "Taco Bell Gourmet". Reminds me of Payton Manning's commercial serving up a single Bush's Baked Bean on a tiny square of bacon fat.

I like Cheez-Its dont get me wrong....but that would be awful dry and doughy if it was like a real cheez-it just upsized.

Make me a giant taco salad or taco pie on a giant ritz cracker ...now that is what id go buy.

I'd guess that they applied some sort of special glaze to it, if it's even an actual Cheez-it, as opposed to something more suitable that they gave a similar texture and the Cheez-it flavor.

Seriously. Even if you just go with cheese quesadillas, they're a quick and simple meal that just happens to be really, really cheap, and can be made in just a couple of minutes. Daehawk, you were looking for suggestions the other day for food - there's one, if it's not a regular thing for you. A bag of shredded 'fiesta' cheese and a bag of tortillas from Walmart. Cover half in cheese, fold it in half, and fry it. They turn out even better on a Foreman grill too, if you have one. And you can dress them up however you like, and a lot of the options are cheap - a few jalapenos, or some hot sauce, or some salsa - even some chunks of pepperoni or ham.

They were a standard option for my kids growing up when I had absolutely no money to spare.

I already eat too much cheese, but you've almost got me sold. Dollar Tree doesn't seem to have flour tortillas or salsa anymore.

My kids live off cheese quesadillas. And thankfully it's one of the few things I can actually cook.

In college we used to take a tortilla, throw some pepperoni and cheese on it, and zap it in the microwave to make mini-pizzas. I still do that from time to time if I'm in a hurry for lunch, though these days I use the air fryer so it comes out a little crispy.

Guys... think of a food item you'd love to have that isn't out there and never was then match it to a fast food restaurant . So say yout item is a grilled beef item then that would be burger King ...fried beef McDonalds...Mexican item taco bell....fish captain d's and so on.

My fast food item that's never been would be beef kabobs and of course BK would be the place because they flame grill the beef.

And seriously why does no fast food place have kabobs.??....?..

I wouldn't call this fast food. This is "fast casual" or higher.

You can't have kabobs in a regular fast food place like Burger King or Arby's because it's highly impractical. You can't deliver frozen kabob meat a-la frozen burger patty, it needs to be defrosted, marinated and then be put on skewers, along with vegetables. Then turned over on the grill and monitored for doneness (automation can only do so much), and finally someone has take them off the skewers when they are done - can you picture that during a McDonald's lunch rush? That's not a product/staff cost that a fast food place would ever justify.

There are at least 3 places near me in Chicago with fast food kabobs. You make 'em up in the morning and then grill them when ordered. It's pretty much the same as ordering a burger at a fast food joint, or a taco, or a burrito, etc..

When traveling overseas, you see them as street food a lot. And I consider that to be the fastest of fast foods.

You could do it like KFC and the rest do. It would arrive to the restaurant already seasoned and salted and on a metal kabob stick. The place would of course have some thawed to cook on order. It would be like a BK. A thawed beef kabob would say be beef then onions then beef then potato chunk that has been pre cooked before arriving of course, then beef again and so forth. The employee only has to take the kabob out of a plastic safety covering....maybe vacuum sealed...and sit it on the moving broiler grill. When it comes out the other side cooked and seared it is slid off its metal kabob stick into the customer container for food still looking like it is skewered but its not. Along with whatever else they ordered as sides.

The French must have stolen that from the Greek' Souvlaki. Souvlaki was confusing as it seemed to be the term used instead of Gyro when I was on Crete. So maybe I should say they put fries on my gyro.

I mean, it's literally counter service. Walk up, give them your order, get called up to pick up your food a few minutes later. Sure, they can't do drive through, but it's still a quick service restaurant (aka fast food).

Kabobs are more of a food truck item around here. Speaking of Shawarmas, we have a family of Syrian refugees that about a decade ago started a successful Shawarma restauraunt, and I'm glad to see them successful.

I "need" a nearby Shawarma joint, I haven't had but one Shawarma since I lived in Scotland. A Gyro I can almost make myself with Aldi's Tzatziki and some sliced up meatballs.

Many local Greek takeout joints and casual restaurants sell gyros, but only two offer lamb. Even the Greek Orthodox Church festival's "traditional" gyros are just a mix of chicken and pork. They're mighty tasty, but real gyros use lamb. Once you've had sheep, you'll never -- uh, scratch that thought.

I can walk to 6 different places that sell gyros in 30 minutes or less. Every diner or Coney sells them. Middle Eastern places sell shawarma most of the time but less so much on gyro form and I've never paid attention to if any specific Coney sells kabobs. I doubt it. I love gyros but it's not the only thing I'd think about getting at diner or Coney. As example, at a Coney, there is... Coneys... At diners, there is generally 24 hour greasy breakfast.

Heh, google says in addition to the 6 diners I'm thinking of there are actually 4 shawarma specific spots within a 30 minute walk (One of which is called Shish Kabob Express ;) ) The one I was thinking of is called Shawarma Co which opened where Little Ceasars 0 used to be. I walk past it every morning.

As far as I know, all gyros are made with lamb. I haven't looked a menu to verify this in ?????

Actually, lamb is very rarely used in gyros/souvlaki in Greece. It's normally pork, chicken or even goat (although I saw that last one more often in other countries). So the Greek churches near you are being "traditional", you're not.

I don't mind people saying things wrong, unless they are making a YouTube video that is actually trying to educate people on a topic - then I want it said right.

Also, the whole "Jai-Roes" thing is just obnoxiously wrong. So, I'm not being pedantic.

I always thought Greece was almost exclusively pork, and Wikipedia agrees with me:
In Greece, gyros is normally made with pork, though other meats are used in other countries.[15] Chicken is common, and lamb or beef may be found more rarely.[citation needed] Typical American mass-produced gyros are made with finely ground beef mixed with lamb.[19]
Bottom line, though, is that you're right that lamb is not traditionally Greek. Still tasty, though, and it's what most gyros in the US is made from (along with beef).
