I just binged through 4 seasons of Halt and Catch Fire. It was excellent, though I could have done with a tad more geek and a bit less drama. My favorite LOL quote: "Not Linda, you perverts."

Only one slight nitpick:
Spoiler:
Gamers would have figured out how to beat Pilgrim in a few days. Granted, the internet was neolithic, but the solution would have soon been disseminated.

I loved Halt, great actors. The story and time jumps between seasons could be a bit disorienting, but it certainly kept things moving, and when a show does a major setting change well it can be really interesting. Sad I won't get to spend more time in that world. I was too young to experience the topics of the early seasons first hand, but I have such nostalgia for when home computing and the internet hit the mainstream in the 90s.

Thanks for recommending Aunty Donna's! At first I thought the drum clip was stupid, but then I got to the middle and it's revealed what these guys are really about. And then things go completely off the rails at the end. I don't typically appreciate sketch comedy, but these guys and Key and Peele are really creatively absurd and hit the mark more than they miss it.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I've been looking forward to this but that trailer actually dampened my enthusiasm.

I finished last night. It has ups and downs in the middle for sure. It's not perfect. But as a whole this series was tremendous. I would recommend it to anyone. I loved the story, setting, music, wardrobe, and acting. The final episode was great and wrapped it up. It was the best episode in my opinion. To be considered a great series, the last episode better deliver. This did for me.

It should garner a handful of awards. The main actress was amazing.

I didn't think I would like Queen's Gambit, but I'm two episodes in and I'm hooked. It reminds me of Mad Men in so many ways. There are numerous scenes that seem to imply something momentous is about to happen...and then they resolve in a way that's either comfortingly anticlimactic or just perfectly reasonable. I loved that about MM and it works equally well here.

I love chess and hate period drama and I'm really liking it 4 episodes in. Maybe it helps that the period of the drama is not so far in the past.

Late to the party, but I just finished season 1 of Kim’s Convenience. I’m not generally big on sitcoms, but that’s a fantastic show.

I am 2 episodes into To The Lake, a pandemic apocalypse. At first I didn't realize it was set in Russia, since we tend to think Russia is all slums and gulags, but these people are well to do. So far it is credible.

From THE TOYS THAT MADE US and THE MOVIES THAT MADE US creators comes a two-episode series, THE HOLIDAY MOVIES THAT MADE US covering ELF and THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

I watched the ELF episode over lunch and it was a pure delight. Highly recommended.

Mank is fantastic. Gary Oldman is at the top of his game. Definitely a must see for fans of old Hollywood...or just good films.

I'm a huge Gary Oldman fan, but the last movie I saw him in was the low budget haunted sailboat flick "Mary." The entire 90 minutes I spent watching that film I was wondering 1. "Why would Gary Oldman ever agree to do this movie?" and 2. "Damn Gary Oldman is good even in bad movies."

I keep finding myself tempted to re-watch Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Just to enjoy his performance. And also because Netflix has been sticking it in my recommendation lists.

I love Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy because it never panders to the audience. You have to pay attention to every single thing going on or you’ll lose your way. It’s a thinker, but it rewards your effort with a fantastic story.

Absolutely. While I do sometimes use "Mmmmmm... chicken!" or "Multipass!", my favorite quote, and most often used, is probably "I am very dis-a-point-ed." (said as he does it, of course). I also love "They're not heeere." :)

Oldman has been the glue is so many movies. He was great in JFK but I liked him so much in Bram Stokers Dracula.

I thought that was a wee bit over the top. It was fun in the context of the movie, but not really a great example of his acting skill (although maybe a good example of how he can channel late period Pacino).

Still really enjoying the show. As this is the last season I am rationing my watching down to 2 episodes per week so I can draw out the enjoyment for a few weeks.
I just finished watching all 3 seasons of Kipo with my wife and it was the show I needed in 2020. Just absolutely wonderful from start to finish.

One episode into the Korean horror series Sweet Home and I’m hooked. It’s basically the old Italian horror film Demons so far. The cinematography is outstanding. The opening scene of the show contains a great monsters in a snow storm shot.

Addendum: two episodes in and it does have its flaws. The story is pretty weak. It’s nowhere near Kingdom when it comes to narrative. But if you want great camera work and oodles of creative monsters, it’s well worth a watch. The show is just fun. It reminds me of Sam Raimi or early Peter Jackson in many ways.

Sounds like they might have been following notes from Game of Thrones a bit too closely:
Lin Qi, the chairman and CEO of Yoozoo Group who was hospitalized after having been poisoned on Dec. 16, has died. The Chinese company confirmed that Lin died on Christmas Day. He was 39.

On Wednesday evening in China, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau had announced that Lin was receiving treatment after being poisoned and that a Yoozoo coworker of Lin's, surnamed Xu, had been apprehended amid an investigation.
