In fact they just voted to lift it 190-0, meaning the president's own party refused to support him.
Possibly? They held the vote with the 190 members of the National Assembly present, out of a total of 300. Coincidentally, the National Assembly is made up of 192 opposition members and 108 members of the president's party. I haven't seen a break-down of who actually showed up, but it is theoretically possible that nobody from his own party turned up for the vote. Politically, it might be less risky for them to boycott the vote than it would be to show up, vote to overthrow democracy, then lose anyway because they can't command a majority.
I had no idea that South Korea was trending this badly.

This got my goat more than is should have. I guess a month later and I'm still a bit too sensitive. Of course Turkey Day let me know that as well. I didn't want to go and left moments after the first politic was started, complete not hearing concerns for my being lack of presence.

So with the final House seat called (a democratic pickup in California) the GOP majority is 220 - 215. Which is a one seat pickup for Democrats. So...that's something I guess?

Saw a van today with drumpf 2024 stickers all over it while dropping my kid off at school. At first I was annoyed, but then realized this is a Canadian in Ontario who is so besotted by the whole drumpf propaganda that he's advertising on his private property. In an environment where he has all the tools and skills taught to employ critical thinking by our education system and is still an idiot.
Made me laugh.
No, I don't know his story, and yes, there are lots of reasons that he might be a complete tool. That doesn't absolve him of being a douche nozzle though.
What a world.

It's a good reminder that all the weaponized media and propaganda tools that helped drag America into the sewer are at work everywhere in the world.

Definitely. As you noted, the conservatives are lining up to surrender Canada to drumpf. It's..concerning.

Wait til we declare a liberation war for annexation because for 500 years Canada has been "ethnically 'American'". The even speak mostly 'American'.

You always struck me as a Drakkar Noir kind of guy.
After two days of testimony in Houston, Judge Christopher Lopez took issue with what he called the lack of transparency in the process, the uneven playing field and the failure to maximize value for the people to whom Jones owes money.

When do you think Trump will have his first military parade with tanks and whatnot? No later than the end of 2026 for sure, I would say.

He did make some comment recently about how there would be more statues and public displays of "heroes" during his Presidency. Remember, it's our nation's big anniversary and he's already promised a "year long celebration" starting in May of 2025. I fully expect an Ashley Babbitt statue to be placed near the Capitol. Or maybe he's just talking. I guess we'll see.

It's 100% happening as part of the 250th celebration for America. Could be May of 2025 or July of 2026 when the year long celebration ends. Maybe both.

Trump's mastery of political strategy is, as always, nothing short of amazing.
That's someone else's screen cap, I just copied it. I did confirm that the Xeet was real before posting it, though, as it was still up at that time. IIRC it had something like 5+ million views at that point, so good luck to him pushing it into the memory hole.

As a Pennsylvanian, I can confirm that Doug Mastriano is a world-class idiot.
He's a full-blown hardcore Christian Nationalist who decisively lost the 2022 PA governor's race. His campaign was predicated on keeping his mouth shut because he lost support every time he opened it.

I've had to retreat from the news and am likely to stay in hiding for the next few years. I simply can't take this much drumpf, and it doesn't help that Canadian politics are getting drumpfian as well.
I'm smoove, except it's not just public health news that is driving me insane.
At least I'll have more time on my hands.

My Canadian cousin recently expressed worry that the next Canadian PM may be some sort of idiot / lunatic. I know Trudeau is on his way out. How do things look there?

A populist with no goals or ideas beyond attaining power.
Sound familiar?
Fun fact. My wife reminded me that he was an MP in a riding near us and he actually came to our door. Wife was immediately creeped out and sent him on his way. I think he was a liberal at that point, but has since changed parties.
In a recent meeting behind closed doors of party heads to discuss what is to be done about drumpf, both liberal (trudeau) and NDP (singh) are on record saying that poilievre had zero useful input, instead throwing insults and populist talking points, despite there being no cameras or public access whatsoever. i.e. he couldn't turn off his campaigning and had nothing to offer in terms of solutions.
We are in for it.
Oh, in my opinion, it's not clear that the country is picking poilievre specifically, only that trudeau has had his run and it's time for someone else. The NDP don't have the public support that the liberals and conservatives have, so the NDP is not an option. Leaving poilievre as the only option (having more than 2 parties doesn't help in this case).
That said, there are a LOT of Canadians that think drumpf is great, so...god help us all.
