What's the point of that program anyway?
Clearly redundant.

I searched Sector 24 to no avail.

Scoop, can code be stolen? That is, if someone scans a sector where the players found the virus scan can they take the virus scan for themselves and deny it to the previous program?
Once a sector is scanned, all code there is removed. Future scans on that sector will turn up empty. There is no mechanism for stealing code from another program.

Permission bits, I guess.
There is no guarantee anyone has any bits yet.
You know, I could have sworn Permission bits were acquired by piling on a vote. It seems I was completely mistaken, and instead the bits are gathered like any other Code.
Let me think about this for a while.

The only reason in my mind would be so we don't have to wait until Wed night to see what happens next. Flynn is immune to lynch/termination, so not much risk there.
But there is risk to every other program. The MCP is searching more per Downtime than we are. We need everyone we can to gather the bits. There is no auto night time kill, so we aren't ceding anything by passing. And I'm pretty sure Scoop would roll the day if we all voted

Since there is a deadline on voting, Pass voting must be legal. Either that or remove the deadline.

Corruption needs to be removed first? That plays into MCPs hands, doesn't it Sark?

The eventually win for Thorne is a ways out there. Downtime 4 with luck and coordination with Daft Punk and the opportunity for coordination is limited.

Everyone vote? That's inconceivable. Also I'd think he would want to wait for Pass to have the majority before rolling with no lynch. I'll follow for now, but if the pile on Isgrimnur grows I might jump ship.

MOD NOTE: Two things...
First, programs may vote PASS if they wish to move the uptime forward and not terminate a program. Its not in the rulez (its there in spirit
i.e. I forgot to add it) but I will add it soon.
Second, it seems we might have an exploit regarding Thorne and the virus scan code. While I HATE to jimmy with the rulez after the game has started I was very ambitious with this rulez set and I knew I would miss some of the balancing issues. Therefore I want to freeze the game for a moment so I can get a ruling from everyone who wishes to weigh in.
Should Thorne show as infected when scanned by the virus scan??
Possible rule changes?
- Thorne will show as "Clean" during Downtime 1 and Downtime 2. During Downtime 3 Thorne will show his true form and scan as "Infected".
- Thorne has the ability to block an anti-virus scan on any one program (including himself). This ability expires at the beginning of Downtime 3.
Everyone, please PM me your suggestions/comments and I will make a ruling. Also, I will not process any orders (for example derezz) until this issue is resolves. Programs can continue to vote. If we reach a majority before this is resolves the game will be on hold until the issue is resolved.
Just an FYI, I have received more than a few comments from players regard the Thorne issue. This is why I am willing to consider changing it mid-game.

I searched 26 and came up empty.
Maybe should make a list of sectors we've searched and what we've found. Or maybe sectors we still need to search and sectors with interesting objects. I'd imagine the list with sectors still untouched would be the better one to use so that it will eventually shrink.

MOD RULING: Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate everyone's comments. However, there is no perfect solution but I think this is the best one considering where we are in the game.
Thorne will show as "clean" when scanned by a virus scan code.
Rationale: Thorne is not infected but is the source and therefore will show as a "clean" program to the virus scan code.
HOWEVER ...
If 75% or more of functioning programs are infected, then Thorne will show as "infected" when scanned by a virus scan code.
Rationale: As the System becomes more unstable due to the growing infection, Thorne's stability lapses as well.
The MOD has ruled. Fear and respect his power over you!!

Ironically, this means we should not try to stop the infection for a while for two reasons - 1) gets us closer to being able to identify Thorne and 2) keeps MCP further from his goal giving us time to work.
I'm not even sure we should scan tonight now. Lets give the infection a bit of time to spread. When we do scan, we'll get a nice large group of people who can't be Thorne.

Mod Notes: Here is the official rulez update for Thorne.
Thorne:
J.D. Thorne is a security chief at ENCOM gone missing during the events of Tron 2.0. Somehow Thorne was able to enter the system but the conversion left him insane and corrupted. Consequently, Thorne is trying to corrupt the system and take control however Thorne's corruption will cause the system to crash destroying everything including Thorne himself.
Corrupt : Each Downtime, Thorne can Corrupt a Program by "infecting" it.
Ping : Thorne may secretly send a message to either the MPC or Flynn each downtime.
Thorne will not be informed who the MPC or Flynn is. The MPC and Flynn will be not informed who Thorne is.
The Ping must be under 125 characters.
Infection : Thorne will show as "clean" when scanned by a virus scan code.
If 75% or more of functioning programs are infected, then Thorne will show as "infected" when scanned by a virus scan code.
