I wonder if Jackie can show up in the final episode to help out.

When it girst came out I figured it was just gonna be a nostalgic money grab.
I'm very glad it turbed out to be a great show and I'm sad its ending.

Yeah, or his character could come to warn them of an impending new threat that they decide to team up against leading up to the movie.

But realistically, I have a feeling it's going to be about a mixed martial-arts world championship event where the two meet. Previously, the show focused on the All-Valley Tournament, but it's also mentioned other tournaments in the last season, so I could perhaps imagine one of the Dojos, or both moving up to a higher-level tournament that happens to be mixed. That'd be fun to see, and it would possibly also have higher stakes.

Netflix usually chases sugar high ratings. It must have a heck of a following to continue for 6 seasons.

It's been a very successful and popular show. The 6th season was announced awhile back too. I know that each season has been highly anticipated.

I think it's a pretty cheap show to run too.

Possibly. I mean, it's not like the acting talent is a bunch of A-listers. But they've done very well in returning to their characters or creating new ones in a way that feels very sincere.

Zabka has been consistently good in the show in a way that surprised me. I’m really surprised he’s not getting more work based on his performance.

awhile is an adverb that means "for a while", and as such should modify a very. "I can wait awhile, but I need to get going."
while is a noun that means a period of time; "This is probably going to take a while, you may want to sit down."

Yeah, that was quite pedantic... I'm usually better at this, but once in a while, I make a mistake. :P No need to preach to me. My Mom is a grammar nazi, and I'm generally well aware of what's proper.

Well, I'm sorry if I ticked you off with that. If I'm ever pedantic, I'm doing it as a casual cheap-poke from a friend, I don't mean to actually sound like a grammar nazi. I can't afford the hypocrisy that role would bring upon me.

So, according to Dark Horizons, apparently the Cobra Kai team is helping out where they can with the movie, which makes this more promising.
Dark Horizons wrote:An update from Gizmodo indicates that while the team behind Netflix’s smash hit “Cobra Kai” aren’t directly involved in the project, they have been involved in the process.

Sony Pictures Television produces “Cobra Kai” for Netflix, whilst Sony Pictures is producing the film. The site indicates the show’s creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg know the film is happening and have offered assistance when asked.
Dark Horizon wrote:Rob Lieber (“Peter Rabbit”) wrote the script which follows a teenager from China now living on the U.S. east coast. They find strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor.

Season 6 is out. Don't worry, even after the events of season five the writers have still found a way to make a local karate dojo the only thing saving the U.S., and possibly the world, from corrupting our kids and ushering in an era of darkness.

Hell yeah! We even get a Dagobah Darth Vader tree moment.

This show knows that the only way to get this many seasons is to continually one up themselves. It's 100% bonkers and it works for me.

For me, it worked when it was less about the ultimate fights between good and evil, and more about two guys who never really grew up and how that was affecting their lives and especially their kids. I think the last time I really enjoyed the show was season 3. Now I watch out of a feeling that I should just complete the journey. Even if the journey isn't really with the same folks I started it with.

I'll watch this last season, but I expect to end up being disappointed with it at the end just as much as I did the last.

Oh, yeah, you're not going to like the last season. It certainly has some great Johnny Lawrence moments, but this is totally a 90210 show with the fate of the world at stake.

To be fair, if you think about the show you liked that focused on Lawrence and Larusso, what kind of legs did it have? There were only so many episodes they could write about that.

Good writers could find ways to make it work. But to answer your question: I'd prefer it have ended then instead of becoming a completely different, and lesser, show.

But that's just me, of course. I can find over the top shows about good vs. evil almost anywhere. What I can't find a lot of are nuanced shows that don't create lazy black and white worlds.

Maybe the show could have become like a Roadhouse-type show, where Larusso keeps the town under his thumb and presents himself as the good guy. Lawrence teams up with Kreese and redeem themselves in the eyes of the Valley by exposing Larusso, who brings in Chosun as his muscle to intimidate the townsfolk, leading to an epic showdown.

Ok, maybe that's still going too far, but it would have rocked.

More information has surfaced about the upcoming movie. Will be called Karate Kid Legends, set in NYC, and starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan joining forces to train a new kid. A trailer was shown at NY Comic Con.

https://gizmodo.com/new-karate-kid-movi ... 2000512185
Gizmodo wrote:The film stars Ben Wang as Li Fong, a new student that somehow learns martial arts from the likes of Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) and Mr. Han (Chan). Joshua Jackson, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Sadie Stanley, Wyatt Olef, and Jennifer-Lyn Christie are also in the film. Chan and Macchio sent in a video to introduce the first trailer for the film, which was only shown in the room, but said since New York City plays such a large role, it was the perfect place to do so.

What we learn from the trailer, or at least can try and discern, is that Mr. Han seemingly takes the lead between the two legacy characters. He speaks about tradition rooted in history mentioning both kung fu and karate. We see him and LaRusso meet, and LaRusso assumes he is looking for Mr. Miyagi. “I did not come looking for Mr. Miyagi,” Han says. “I came looking for you.”
Gizmodo wrote:Later, as the action builds to its peak and we cut through different training montages with Li and Mr. Han, the trailer climaxes with Li fighting in several matches at a tournament. “Two branches, one tree,” LaRusso says, implying he and Han will combine efforts for something.

Supposedly, it takes place soon after the series ends, and as per my earlier post about it, those who have been working on Cobra Kai have been helping out where they can with the movie to ensure it retains continuity.
McNutt wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 1:22 pm Is there an official Karate Kid universe?
Before the series, I probably would have said no, but it's quite clear that the intention is to bridge the gap between the Miyagi-verse and the Jackie Chan movie into one blended universe. It makes sense to me, as I never saw them as mutually exclusive to each other.

Just finished the second part of season 6 and wow, it gets intense.

Big spoilers i think.
Spoiler:
Was completely surprised with how they brought Silver back and how it was a twist I didn't see coming.

Also pleasantly surprised that the brought Mr. Miyagi back and the CGI was very well done.
I'm sure there are flaws if you pause but for the quick scene it was well done.
HUGE fight in the last episode. Definitely the biggest one yet!

Extra spoiler for some character issues.
Spoiler:
Was not expecting them to kill off Kwon. At least it looks that way. Even if he's not dead, I'd expect him to be out of the tournament.
The plane flights didn't make a lot of sense to me. Not the reason why there are plane flights but the timing.
According to Alexa the flight times from California to Barcelona is about 11 hours. Round trip is 22. Almost a full day just in flight. Then you have also factor in travel time to and from the airports AND how long you'd have to wait for a return flight. It's not like you can go to the airport and there's a plane sitting and waiting for you.
This seems like Miguel, Johnny, and Kenny wouldn't have been able to get back in time to compete.
At minimum they could have had a small scene saying the the tournament is every other day or something similar to explain it.
Overall a very good 2nd part. Although it does end on a cliffhanger which is annoying.
Also, I thought that all of season 6 was filmed back to back but based on the huge growth spurts for Devon and Kenny it seems like there was a huge time gap between filming part 1 and part 2. Will be interesting if there was another gap between part 2 and 3 but they might have peaked their growth spurts.
