I went through and painstakingly reviewed my past projects (Rolling Stone Top 500, Updated Top 500, and Classic Rock project) and noted every album I had proof I listened to off the 1001 list.

That leaves me with roughly 500 albums to listen to, maybe just under that.

I'm not going to post them as I listen to them, but I may comment if I run across any I particularly love or hate.

I have listened to quite a few more albums but got away from writing them up so I'm doing a bit of catch-up. Some of these are going to be pretty brief.

The Byrds - Mr Tambourine Man - 1965

This is one I've been looking forward to. I've heard about The Byrds for years and years but I've never listened to them. I really enjoyed the album although the Dylan song is the obvious standout. I can definitely hear them in early R.E.M. among a million other bands. Didn't love it enough to add it to the collection but wouldn't mind hearing it again sometime.

Bob Dylan - HIghway 61 Revisited -1965

Dylan goes electric and I dig it. I still can't quite get past his voice but the songwriting is so good I can see why others can.

The Who - My Generation - 1965

I've been pretty upfront on this board about my dislike of The Who. At times I've been kind of a dick about it. But I really tried to listen to this with fresh ears and give it a chance.

Nope. I don't like the vocals, I don't like the songwriting, I just don't like the Who at all. :|

My kindred spirit, my brother. Bless you and yours for all eternity.

I actually tortured myself listened to every single Who album in an attempt to get them but they are "not for me."

I feel that way about Elvis Costello.

His first 3 or 4 albums plus Brutal Youth are gold. After that not so much.

Funny, I was listening to Get Happy!! (album #4) when I read your comments.

I didn't really start listening to EC until I was in college (1988 or so). I think my favorite of his would be Armed Forced (album #3) but I can find a lot of things to like in almost every album up to 1989 or so (Spike), plus the exceptional Brutal Youth as mentioned. After that you need to be into whatever particular eclectic thing he is exploring on each album.
Conform or be cast out!
