I HATE the app on my LG TV. It's the ONLY one with issues. Pauses and crashes galore.
Might need to stream from laptop but it's making me want to cancel it.
FWIW, there's an unofficial third party Kodi add-on for Paramount Plus that works far more smoothly than the official app (at least in my experience). Here's a step-by-step guide from its developer that walks you through how to get it installed:

Paramount+ Kodi Add-on - Matt Huisman
From just the quick view it sounds like it runs off windows anyway. For that I might as well just stream from my laptop straight from the site.

I think I'd have to cancel my existing account and resubscribe from Amazon and start all over with which shows I already started and any lists I have made. Might be too much for me to do.

I believe you can install Kodi on your LG TV. But Kodi is not directly available from the LG content store, so it must be sideloaded instead. Instructions on how to do so are provided on the Kodi wiki, though they're somewhat minimal. Here's a more complete guide on how to install Kodi on an LG smart TV.

Yeah, when something works I hate to perturb it. TV is way too complicated. For some bizarre reason if you get Paramount+ thru Prime you'll have to pay extra to watch "Prodigy." WTF? Prodigy is worth a few hours of your lifespan if it's "free" but if you pay extra for it you'll regret it on your deathbed, invalidating your whole life.

I hate to give up on Lower Decks at season 3 but I cant watch it any more as bad as the pausing has got. Its just one big stutter fest.

Makes me worry for the return of Strange New Worlds.

Tonight it is even worse. When its time for the 2nd ad breaks it just pauses and goes to a black screen. It forces me to exit the show and restart it then fast forward to where I was when it shit itself.

This app is the worst POS Ive had to deal with using streaming.

Think I may write them tomorrow and tell them what I think of this app. I'll do it tomorrow after I sleep. Otherwise Id just send them YOUR APP IS A PIECE OF SHIT!

I just re watched the original series ep Cats Paw. I remembered it as being a weird Halloween like ep but man I didn't remember it being that weird. I can only imagine what Shatner was thinking while having to film that one.

There was a new update to the Paramount Plus app a few days ago. So far it seems to be an improvement. But I reserve the right to point out it's crap when it inevitably starts to fail on me again.

So just finished up Picard - Star Trek. The first two seasons were enjoyable, but man, that third season hit it out of the ballpark. What a treat to see all the old crew being brought together to save the Federation once again. And it was interesting to see that they were not static figures, that they had changed as they got older, with various histories, learnings and struggles along the way. Lots of grinning at them together and a lot of poignant moments too. And even their enemies, though familiar had gone through their own changes, which made it interesting. And a few cool cameos also along the way. One of the best seasons of ST and science fiction ever, IMO. I just loved it.

PS, I would love to see a series with the new Captain and crew at the end, a new Next Generation in a rumored “Star Trek Legacy” series.

I thought S1 of Picard was meh and S2 was a train wreck, but S3 redeemed it if one overlooks Gates McFadden's hairstyle.

Oh yeah, Season 3 was great once you get past all the nostalgia. But when you think about it, this is what most fans were expecting out of Picard in the first place. I just don't like the look and feel of the first two seasons. They both feel rather generic in their settings. I heard a rumour that it was because of the split between CBS and Paramount that prevented them from using any recognisable Trek icons. Basically, as much as I like Patrick Stewart, I don't think his ideas of not doing a Trek reunion were great to begin with. He'd said before that he'd only sign on to it if they weren't making the show into a Next-Gen reunion.

That doesn't make any sense - CBS is owned by Paramount, so how could there be any "split"?

Sorry, I meant CBS and Viacom. At one point they weren't merged and it caused issues in terms of what they could use as the rights were split between the two companies.

I hadn't heard about this before, but apparently they're making a Starfleet Academy show set in Discovery's time.

And in great news for hepcat:
Tig Notaro (“Star Trek: Discovery”) and Robert Picardo (“Star Trek: Voyager”) will reprise their respective roles of Jett Reno and The Doctor, as series regulars on the newest iteration of the venerable sci-fi franchise, while Mary Wiseman and Oded Fehr will return as guest stars playing their “Discovery” characters Sylvia Tilly and Admiral Charles Vance.
That's right, we're not done with Reno. I also really like Tilly, so glad she'll be in this, albeit as a "guest star".

And Paul Giamatti is playing the season 1 villain!

Discovery was the weakest show in Paramount+'s ST stable, but I won't hold that against the new series.

Just to stir the pot, I read that some fans resented Discovery's jump into the 32nd century and wanted it to be an alternate universe, rather than canon, because knowing that the Federation is still alive and kicking in 800 years knocks the legs out from under any "Federation endangered" plot lines set earlier. But whoever decides such things says it's canon, so that particular story arc is compromised at best.

Though I loved Season 3 they
Spoiler:
totally ignored the Jurati Borg, and threw poor Loris under the bus. It’s as if Season 2 never existed - which may have been a good thing - though Loris was in the opening episode. You’d think she would have showed up in the “epilogue” sequences at the end

That’s silly. From a meta POV does anyone really believe the Federation is going to be destroyed by any threat to the Federation in any ST show? Of course not - it’s never going to happen.

First off, the Federation is core to the concept of ST - it wouldn’t be ST without the Federation. Secondly, were the Federation fall in a given show, it would mean that our heroes in that show would have failed in their attempt to save the Federation. They would have been defeated. That’s just not going to happen. Kirk, Picard, Sisco, etc, they all come out on top in the end. They may struggle, they may be defeated temporarily, things may look hopeless, but they always in the end, come back and defeat the enemy/villain.

The argument makes no sense.

Well, it's not my argument and I won't defend it. I'd say that 800 years leaves a lot of room for the Federation to fall and rise again in various interesting ways. It's amusing that some contingent of fans is butt-hurt about making that time jump.

They released a five minute "First Look" at season 3 of SNW.

(For those spoiler averse be aware this looks like five full minutes of an episode so avoid if you don't want to see that just yet).

Looks amazing and I can't wait for Season 3. :horse:

Ah hells yeah. Give me all the Jett you can offer. The moment she randomly called Stamets "Bobcat" I knew I'd found my favorite engineer.

Here's 17 minutes of Jett being great.

Giamatti was the villain in the last season of the Spanish horror series 30 Coins. It was...interesting.

Also, Fehr's Admiral Vance brought a humanity to his role that I thought really symbolized everything about the Federation that I like. I'm glad he's not gone.

A contingent of fans is butt-hurt about everything. Especially when it comes to Discovery (which I think is underrated, but which nonetheless is probably among the least popular Trek shows overall).

Ditto. Discovery was the first tentative step for a franchise that had been dormant for years, so it had a lot of hurdles to get over. Appeal to long time fans AND bring in new viewers. That balance is EXTREMELY hard to maintain. But without a healthy viewing audience, there's no reason why a studio will continue with something. To that end, I think they tried something new with a showrunner who has a track record of creating fantastic shows (Fuller, maker of the insanely amazing Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) but who wasn't quite right for this genre (utopian science fiction with a heavy lean towards science over surrealism). He (or the studio) quickly realized this and left. Then they spent a year trying to get back on track in what I felt was a sincere attempt.

I didn't enjoy the final season of Discovery primarily because I hate National Treasure series arcs combined with the stupid deus ex machina solutions that seem to always accompany them, as well as the standard trope of two characters falling in love....but one of them just happens to be the heir to the throne of whatever empire is that week's enemy.

But the ensemble of actors are always good, I ended up liking the new number 2 quite a bit.
Spoiler:
Although I still want a follow on episode where Zora comes back and just kicks the ever loving shit out of everyone who sent her to spend a thousand years by herself circling a goddamn planet in the middle of nowhere.

Yes, absolutely and that's due to the fact that I feel it's exactly what fans were wanting with Picard in the first place, what with the first two seasons trying to distance itself from it due to Stewart's demands about the show. I was mentioning the nostalgia because I know there are many opponents to it even when it's clear that the ratings picked up once they went in that direction. Case in point, much easier when you go with the flow rather than against it.

Cool stuff coming up for ST: SNW:

https://trekmovie.com/2024/08/20/star-t ... -into-tos/

I really hope they eventually do a reboot of TOS. Maybe redo sn episode or two each season with the rest original stories. As we only got 3 years of the 5 year mission, there are plenty of stories yet to tell.

I don't know if you've seen it, but Continues is a great fanfilm series aimed at finishing the 5 year mission. They've managed to get some pretty big stars as guest stars.

I would prefer that they DON'T continue recasting old characters and remaking old shows. I don't want a new Kirk or Spock every 10 years or so. I want new stories that can stand on their own. That make their own mark on the Star Trek universe. I want new victories, not old ones again and again. Pike was a bit different because he wasn't a long time fixture of the ST universe. I do bristle at the new Spock sometimes (even if I think he's doing a great job for the most part), as well as some of the recast established characters like Nurse/Doctor/Drug Enhanced Super Warrior Christine Chapel.

Picard's last season only worked because they brought back the same characters in the same roles. The nostalgia was earned. Obviously they can't do that for the TOS...or even DS9, in some cases. So don't try. Move on. Show us that Star Trek is more than just the same history of the same characters flying on the same ship. It needs to prove it can give us new stories and new characters who eventually BECOME as great as those we've come to love over the last 50 years.

However, I will still accept a Garak series. Even if they have to recast characters. :snooty:

Edit: I just now realized Sam Richardson is on Section 31. How did I miss that?!?! Now I HAVE to watch it.

Agreed, and I don't agree with you often :D I'm kind of tired to see them keep going back to the well. It's felt like the last two decades in Trek has felt regressive in a sense, starting with JJ's 2009 reboot. I mean, fine, he set it in an alternate universe to give them more freedom and be less beholden to Canon, but then for the sequel, what does he do? Bring back Kahn. Like dude, you have a means and a motive to do exactly what you want to do, but instead the easy way is taken by bringing back someone popular from Canon. That was frustrating to me to see as a Trek fan. They had the perfect opportunity to do something new, different and bold and threw it away. When that happened, I was done with his Trek movies.
