I agree with DocD that he should take these mixed up fellows to the local authorities. That is unless Coop wants to hurt the evil doers in a special way.

/OOC Welcome, GrandMof
I will wait for the responses to the last questions before I agree or disagree to the decision, especially seeing as I am not within earshot to hear it

The party continues to interrogate both sides...
Piecing together the stories you have, you make the determination that Markus was in on the theft with the Evil Torpins and reneged on splitting the take with them. He gathered the others in the guise of simple travel, hoping they would be sufficient to defend him.
Final Analysis:
Evil Torpins and Markus are the ones responsible for the theft while their companions on both sides were duped into the battle.

Friends, I agree with the idea of sending the guilty parties in the custody of the non-responsible officer of the law back to town with [DocD's character]. As far as I am concerned, we have already determined the guilty parties and are in the right to carry out the harshest penalties available. Innocents were dragged into this mess and have died because of their greed, but we will leave that in the hands of Torpin's men.
In the mean time, welcome, woodsman. We appreciate your willingness to accompany us north to deal with the orc incursion.

I agree with the monk, lets send these criminals on and get started. Are you all traveling by foot? And did you check these dead fellows for coin yet?
/occ I'll be limited to checking this thread from work as the internet has been down at my apt since Friday. I should have the home internet fixed by Wed.

I approach Markus armed with the knowledge of what has happened and demand that he turn over the stolen property.
It will most likely go better for you if you turn over the goods as a token of good faith. The city watch will know of both the theft *and* the bribery of one of their guards, and they will not be pleased with either.

/ooc GrandMof, I am mounted, I think a couple of others are riding in the wagons we are escorting. No we haven't looted yet. We are waiting for Starsky & Hutch there.

I thought it would be a bit unkind to pilfer the bodies while their companions watch.

The Paladin and his charges head off to town to seek justice and sort out the truth of the matter.
The Torpin bodies are taken by their companions.
The Couriers agree to help the Paladin guard the Traitor and his Cohorts.

When everyone is mounted up and upon wagon again I will resume my scouting position.

Anyone have a preference on where I ride? I have keen ears and eyes and was thinking of either bringing up the rear or staying up front with Allanon.

Might as well stay back and rear guard. Specially since we probably pissed off one of the princes of this country, he might send some retaliation troops up our tailpipe.
Companions, thank you for your time in that matter. It was a situation that needed to be sorted out, and I believe we handled it fairly and firmly. Now let us continue our journey if everything is in order.
I want to check the carts over once more before we leave to see if anything went amiss in our absence.

Jerrod is resting on the Barrels on Alpha Wagon chewing on a strap of leather nervously but seems greatly relieved to see you.
Derek pokes his head out from behind the Long Wooden Boxes of Beta Wagon.
Yngma is snoozing contentedly with Charlie Wagon, the Netting and Small Boxes seem undisturbed
Sepha calls a thankful hail from her vantage point nearby and rides to meet up with you.

Yes, I'll be in the front wagon with Jerrod, if that's where we were.
Keeping a sharp eye to either side of us for ambushes and getting more info about the surrounding area from my wagon driver about creatures in the area, rumors of interesting features of the surrounding lands, etc. assuming that he has been driving caravans in this region for a while?
**Edit: Man, it pays to actually read better before posting, don't it?

Allanon/Grafvolluth is scouting in the front. Gideon/GrandMof in watching the rear.
I'm on the back wagon. Hammer/Hyena is on the front wagon. Middle wagon has the driver alone.

Once we get a bit further there are some wetlands with a wooden bridge. There are stories of ruins sunk into them, with a golden hoard lost to time, of course. Mostly bugs and stink from my view.

A bunch of tall tales for childrun', my word has been given and I will deliver these weapons as promised
/ooc If we are at a loss for something to do this could prove interesting in the future, I mean who would want to miss a chance of getting swamp fever.

I make a mental note of any possible landmarks in the area for further adventures if we survive the current one.

The caravan approaches the fetid wetlands as dusk draws nigh... the scent of marsh gas is pervasive and the horses are besieged by all manner of insect.

I'd like to take make a Knowledge:Nature check , looking for a solution to repel the insects.
Take a 10 for a 15 total
Also I begin to wonder how far these wetlands stretch, and if traveling thru them in the evening or even attempting to camp in them would be a very good idea?

There are plants that can be used to create a poultice that repels small insects.
Sepha approaches you nervously and suggests riding through before camping would be best.

Okay I will attempt to collect enough of the leaf to give man and animals minimal protection. (If this will delay us for more than say 30 minutes I will skip it)
Hopefully that will keep those nasty biters off. I also suggest that we press forward at a hard pace, we don't want to be caught in these wetlands when night falls
Basically I want to travel at a 'Hustle', it will put a burden on the animals (lethal damage after the first hour) but I am guessing that what may lay in wait for us is probably worse and we can tend to the animals once out of possible danger.

Hustle
A character can hustle for 1 hour without a problem. Hustling for a second hour in between sleep cycles deals 1 point of nonlethal damage, and each additional hour deals twice the damage taken during the previous hour of hustling. A character who takes any nonlethal damage from hustling becomes fatigued.
A fatigued character can’t run or charge and takes a penalty of -2 to Strength and Dexterity. Eliminating the nonlethal damage also eliminates the fatigue.
Hustle 4 miles
You will make it through with two extra hours travel at hustle.
You will be traveling in the dark for the last hour.
Random Nasty Encounter Eightball says...
...No battles before camp, try again later.
Resting during the night will Heal the Single Point to the Animals.

I would like to spend the evening tending to the animals, rubbing/brushing them down and making sure they get lots of clear cool water and a good meal in reward for all that hard work.
