I've been thinking about pizza all day, thank you very much. lol I wish Cassidy's still existed across from the UF campus, I'd take a road trip. Their pizza was like a homemade loaf of round bread somebody punched in the middle and then inserted very generous portions of everything good. I have no idea whether that is a style of pizza or not? Looked something like this, but it wasn't cut out in the middle to make it look that way like this one was.
Instead I'll be a heretic, and settle for the $2.67 special sometime next week.

There's an episode about Chicago style, and many many episodes on NY style.
For you do-it-yourself kinda people there's an episode where Frank gives you the recipe for pizza dough and how to make your own.
I tried it, it works great, but I prefer to buy it from someone who has more experience than I .

Yeah, my grocer has two brands of pre-made dough that work and taste great. Never saw any reason to bother making my own.

Umm...I *can* comprehend different styles of food. That's the entire point that I would make. Chicago Pizza Casserole is a clearly different style of food than pizza. That's not a bad thing. That's a wonderful thing. You've literally figured out how to make the most delicious casserole.
I'm still confused by why it's so important to Chicagoans for it to be something that it's not, rather than reveling in what it actually is - which is America's foremost casserole.

It's important because 99% of the world knows Chicago style pizza as pizza. Jon Stewart having a misguided riff that some hipsters thought was a funny way to poke at us rubes in the flyover states isn't a compelling reason to change the nomenclature used for Chicago style pizza for ~75 years. It still has the same basic components as other styles of pizza, just assembled a bit differently (just as other styles of pizza also have various methods of assembly).

I think I just figured it out. People who refer to Chicago style pizza as casserole actually prefer it to New York style pizza. If they refuse to call it pizza, though, then they don't have to admit that there is superior pizza to the New York style.

I don't prefer it to New York style pizza. The big difference between all other styles of pizza and Chicago casserole is that the rest of them are assembled into actual pizza, and not a casserole that requires the use of utensils.
I like it, because it's excellent pizza-inspired casserole.
Pizza bagels have the same basic ingredients as pizza, and primarily differ in the assembly. But pizza bagels aren't pizza.

I actually think of Chicago as more of a "layover" city given O'Hare, but it wasn't as fitting for my rant.

It doesn't require the use of utensils (although they can help). The crust is sturdy enough that it can survive the lift test to your mouth with no issues. If that's your differentiator, you're going to have to come up with something else. It's still assembled with crust on the bottom, then your cheese/toppings/sauce in some order. People haven't been referring to pizza bagels as pizza since their first creation, and didn't widely accept them as pizza (or a style of pizza) for the first 70+ years of their existence. Plus, they don't really have crust (although maybe you East Coasters have even weirder opinions about your bagels than you do about pizza).

No it's not chocolate. It's white chocolate, which has its own meaning (as I understand it, it contains cocoa butter, but no cocoa nibs). It's completely irrelevant, of course, because its made up of different ingredients than chocolate. In the pizza scenario, we've got more or less the same ingredients. Keep grasping at those straws, though. Maybe you'll get one and be able to hold on to your unnecessary distinction!

However, Chicago pizza
is finger food. Honestly, I'd be more inclined to eat NY pizza with knife and fork because it's more prone to be messy than any other sort of pizza that I can think of. That super thin but flaccid crust usually in 18" or larger diameter loaded with grease begs for you to be more proper and careful than you normally should be for pizza regular pizza consumption.

A casserole is defined by the pan, not the crust. It's actually rather simple.
Chicago pizza with its extended crust architecture is the skyscraper of pizzas. It's superior in design and flavor. No utensils necessary, and it's less messy when the cheese sticks. A sloppy pizza is a poor pizza.
