My only real disappointment is...
Spoiler:
...a disturbing lack of Ron Perlman.
Agree, but...
Spoiler:
He would have been wasted as a mere voiceover. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the season two cast.

Maybe as a super-mutant.

I actually thought he was one of the stronger performances on the show...or at least after only 4 episodes. He's expressive, but in a way that still has me confused over what he's capable of. When he's onscreen I don't know for sure if I'm watching a truly good person, a zealot or a sociopath. Or all three. I like that.
To me, he just comes across as a one-note actor incapable of demonstrating really any emotion whatsoever. That could be intentional to create an aura of mystery around his intentions (as you pointed out), but it feels more like the dude simply can't act. I'm only halfway through though, so maybe he gets better.

Lucy grates on my nerves as well, but at least that one feels like an intentional choice for the character.

I think they are both well acted. He has only known the Brotherhood and she the Vault. I dont get any bad acting vibes from them. Its just their characters.

Lucy is playing her first game and can't bring herself to make evil choices. Max is also a first-timer, but he'll do whatever seems to benefit him at the moment.

The Ghoul is on his sixth or seventh playthrough.
You can almost see Lucy leveling up each episode. I like how she stopped using eye makeup after E2.

There are whole reddit threads devoted to tracking her experience gain and calculating her level. Most of her experience is assumed to come from discovering areas, persuasion checks, and completing quests. Combat less so.

For example: What Did Lucy Do to Earn XP?

Some people even claim to have noticed "level up" sounds in the show's audio. (If that's so, I'd guess it's more a fun Easter egg than a suggestion that the show is really tracking her xp.)

That would probably vary from Vault to Vault. Some would be well-stocked for long-term viability. And some would be for... other purposes.

Note that there are some spoilers in the full article...

Fallout season 2 has been confirmed, so bring on the deathclaws
To the surprise of nobody, the Fallout TV series will be getting a second season. Until yesterday, I had assumed that a second season was guaranteed—especially given the enticing finale of the first season—but actually, it had not: a report in The Wrap published on April 15 revealed that Prime Video had yet to purchase a second season.

Both the Prime Video and Fallout X accounts confirmed the second season today, triggering an onslaught of approving Fallout-themed memes. In an accompanying Variety report, executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy exclaim that "we can't wait to blow up the world all over again," while showrunner duo Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner were even more effusive: "Thank you to Jonah, Kilter, Bethesda and Amazon for having the courage to make a show that gravely tackles all of society’s most serious problems these days — cannibalism, incest, jello cake."

Amazon MGM Studios boss Jennifer Salke chimes in too, admitting that the response has been far more positive than expected. "The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise," she said.

If I was up top and know what I know from the show Id go to vault 4's trap with a note pinned to me stating "I'd like to be a Vault 4 citizen and live in peace with lots of sex."

I think they'd take me in.

Yeah. Even though their ritual was weird, it's still way better than topside.
I'll admit their medication fooled me. Not sure if they CGIed it up until it was opened or of it truly was painted to perfection.

Canon-wise, this is pretty much it. The default answer is food synthesizers/extruders, recycling, and hydroponics. But Vault-Tec mixed that up. One vault, as I recall, was set to only supply flavorless paste. Another was designed with more population than the food could sustain.

I'd rather just be the one guy in Vault Oral-Sex. I mean, I'll return the favor with enthusiasm, but I don't actually need to stick my nose in every lady's asshole.

The one guy in Vault 69 was probably hooked up to a very uncomfortable sperm extraction rig. His swimmers would be a vital resource until the women worked out a viable parthenogenesis-based breeding program. It would be straight out of A Boy and His Dog.

I just saw an interesting theory about the Brotherhood of Steel for this show. I wouldn't view unless you've finished S1:
Spoiler:
Basically, the theory is that the BoS assimilated Caesar's Legion (from the New Vegas story line). Elements like their use of Roman names, referring to themselves as a "Legion" (not a "Chapter") and that their flag is gold and red, not white and red. There's a bunch of other little details as well. This might be confirmed in S2 given the post-credits ending with Henry walking towards New Vegas...

Finished this last night and ended up quite enjoying it. I think it really starts to pick up steam after episode 4 and the story gets much more interesting. While Goggins remains superb throughout, both Maximus and Lucy do finally move past their one note stoic and cheery personas (respectively) and show some impressive range by the end. The story was pretty interesting, although it bugged me that they skip right on past one of the show's biggest mysteries without ever saying a word:
Spoiler:
how Moldaver came to be a perfectly preserved 200 year old human

I'm also a little fuzzy about a few things regarding Vault 32 that maybe someone can shed some light on.
Spoiler:
1. So they found out the huge secret that the overseers were all cryogenically preserved managers from Vault 31 and this knowledge made them...go insane and brutally murder each other? That feels like a bit of an extreme leap, no?

2. Norm and the other guy sneak into Vault 32 and find that it's in shambles, chock full of dead and rotting corpses. The following day, Betty announces that half of Vault 33 will be transferring. Somehow everything is mysteriously cleaned up and back in pristine condition overnight. How? Did they thaw out a bunch of Vault 31 managers to do the work then put them back to sleep or something?

3. I'm guessing that eye-patch blond lady is actually a thawed out Vault 31 manager. If so, why was she in Vault 33 and being used as "breeding stock" in the first place?

Speaking of Vaults, kinda felt like they wasted Norm's character. His setup seemed pretty interesting, but it turns out his only purpose was to randomly stumble across major plot points.
I'm interested enough to watch a second season and it got me to re-install Fallout 4. So, mission accomplished I suppose. :)

Spoiler:
My best guess is that Moldaver spent most of the last couple of centuries in cryogenic suspension. If she had somehow been running around for that amount of time (say, as a successful recipient of the process that produces ghouls, but without the decay) I'd expect she'd have had the time and resources to simply recreate her cold fusion project instead of needing to steal Vault-Tec's version.

As for 1) I dunno, maybe we'll learn more in season 2 as the Vault 31/32/33 story progresses.

2) I dunno, robots maybe? Bud's Brain probably isn't the only bot in Vault 31.

3) If she came from Vault 31 as a breeding trade and was still pregnant, she might have been thawed out after Vault 32 failed with the intent that she'd be sent to Vault 32 as the new overseer. This raises the issue of why Vault 31 didn't keep Hank in the loop about events in Vault 32 or warn him about the raider incursion.

That was my first thought as well, but her reputation and level of infamy seemed too outsized for her to have established if she was recently thawed out. Or maybe she’s just that persuasive…I dunno.

Also, did she establish the NCR or did that already exist and she just sort of...took charge? I know nothing about the game lore, so that bit was a little confusing.

In general, she felt like a wasted character, imo. Introduce her as this mysterious, powerful enigma who is driving the plot, then basically ignore her for 3/4 of the show and have her go out with a whimper at the end.

I'm still not convinced that the actress playing Lucy isn't Steve Buscemi's daughter.

Spoiler:
She wouldn't have been recently thawed out given that she was around prior to the nuking of Shady Sands. Her reputation could reasonably be due to playing a leadership role among the survivors, to the extent the ones in Vault 4 seem to worship her. From what I could see, she was essentially the President of the NCR remnant, which would explain why everyone in the area knew who she was.

I agree I wish she was around more and that more was explained about her. Im kinda hoping she is just passed out from the wound.

Right? She could play the lead in Alita: Battle Angel with no additional CGI work needed.
