power outage at my old work blew up the electric workhouse we had there that predated me. It's replacement was $1500 (more expensive than a pretty good laptop and printer) and was garbage by comparison. It also didn't have the impact so you had to review to make sure manual checks and manual BoLs were good enough. Ribbons weren't hard to come by but by golly they were getting expensive.

I can imagine. I just threw away a perfectly good package of carbon paper and it about ripped my heart out.

I saw this. How stupid does he think people are? Geezus. His users understand how the algorithm works better than he does.

I am going to retire to a cabin with zero internet access, just so I can end my days *not* in a frothing fury at the world.
I actually have a cabin with no phone, internet or cell phone reception. It is awesome and great for my mental health. The best part is that it's only about a 10 minute drive from my office, so I can go there whenever I have time.
How's the manifesto going?
Im only on page 10. I get some beers in me and start fishing and the desire to do anything productive vanishes.

Musk's endorsement of trump may have backfired
Since the tech billionaire endorsed Trump on July 13, the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris has repeatedly attacked Musk for his anti-worker stances. The campaign has called Musk and Trump “self-obsessed rich guys” and reposted audio from an event on Musk’s social media app, X, in which the two laugh together about firing striking workers.

Harris allies including Shawn Fain, the president of the United Auto Workers, have followed up with attacks of their own, and now some Democratic strategists look eager to keep highlighting the Musk-Trump alliance, which they see as reinforcing Trump’s weak points.

“Every time that Elon Musk tries to do something to help Donald Trump, I think it fires up the Democratic base to work against him,” said Pete Giangreco, a Democratic strategist based in Chicago.

“If you’ve got a billionaire helping out someone who says he’s a billionaire, but really isn’t, what does that really get you?” he said.
But what about all those sweet sweet donations?
But as Trump’s poll numbers have sagged, Musk has shown signs of toning down his enthusiasm, if not outright signs of buyer’s remorse. Musk did not speak at the Republican National Convention, despite early discussions among Trump and his allies for him to do so.

And on July 22, two days after Trump boasted to a Michigan crowd that Musk “gives me $45 million a month,” Musk said the figure was not true. He added on X that he would give “at a much lower level.” So far, Musk’s name hasn’t appeared as a donor on public campaign finance disclosures except for a $10,000 donation to the Utah Republican Party, though there is a lag in reporting.

“If he comes through on these promises to donate tons of cash, and that cash is well spent by the Trump campaign, then that could have an effect,” said Nasaw, the biographer.

“But I see no signs that, one, he’s going to follow through and give the money he’s promised or, two, that the Trump campaign is organized in such a way as to make use of that money,” he said.

Didn't he publicly walk back those donation by means of quietly making them to a "America PAC" for TFG instead?

I assume the only thing you take with you on these excursions then is Correl's potato chips, Yaggi's Cheese House jalapeno cheese and Troyer's trail bologna?

If not, they can all be acquired from Yaggi's Cheese House.

I'm coming down at the end of the month, but it's just for a few days for my father's 90th birthday party. So I won't be there long enough to meet up with folks. But I will be there long enough to fill my trunk with the above listed supplies!

Looks like the long-con of purchasing Twitter paid off.

I hope the first thing President Harris does in January of 2025 is revoke his security clearances and cancel all his government contracts. What an absolute joke Musk is.

Considering that Trump and Musk turn on their friends eventually (with the added bonus that Musk will eventually impregnate his friends' wives as well - get ready for a baby brother, Barron!), this may work out for those who see them both as awful humans.

Hard disagree that MAGA would ever embrace Musk the way they embrace Trump. But that was covered in depth in another thread.

All of MAGA? Of course not. But if their lord and savior anoints Musk as his successor? I'd bet a good portion would. Of course, Rump is not likely to ever anoint a successor. So there's that.

I wish he didn't own SpaceX. We're pretty reliant on them right now. But there's a little bit of mutually assured destruction because we're their biggest customer I believe so hopefully in a Harris administration, Elon will choose profit vs conflict. Well, as much as Elon can dial it back anyway.
