My gaming group contains some guys that are just impossible to read, and they all do weird things at times. No one does the same thing all the time, but a few of the guys are always a spoiler. I think they assume they will always lose, so the more havoc they can create means that they have fun.. <shrug>

Sometimes the things they do actually work out for them, and they win as well..But most of the time..Not..

at least you'll be able to count on CR and I stabbing each other in the back at some point just before it would be ideally beneficial to the stabber and most detrimental to the stabee.

It doesn't look too back stabby. It looks overtly hostile. If someone if following you around you pretty much know he's going to fuck with you and steal shit and steal kills when the opportunities arise. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Again the big disappointment for me was reading the solitary play. I liked the idea of having solitary dungeon crawl I could set up in my basement but this isn't really a dungeon crawl. It's going to play too fast to be a dungeon crawl. You quickly gather your rosebud while ye may (and take your neighbor's rosebuds when the opportunity arises) and then it's a cage match free for all, last man standing with the person holding the "Summoning Stone" having a distinct advantage.

This game is a little party game that looks like it would be too much fun playing with family gatherings. Gonna take it down to my mom and dads when we go down for Christmas....

Anyone else ever hear of this? I just "discovered" it....

With this, I have 3 games I plan on taking down for Christmas (Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, and this one, Who Would Win?)

Well, from all early reports, if you can stomach gluing together a myriad of minis, people are giving high marks to Super Dungeon Explore. So if Dungeon Run doesn't suit your fancy, you might check it out. The $$ is high though.

Tom Vasel says it plays like a board game version of gauntlet. If you go in expecting Descent, you will be disappointed. But if you go in with "board game adaptation of video games," he says you get a fast-paced dungeon romp. I was interested in the 1-2 hour game time.

Penny Arcade also reviewed it well.

Both said the minis were a PITA to assemble.

Got to try out the On the Brink expansion for Pandemic that I got for my birthday last night.

Really fun, and added a lot to the original game. We tried the Virulent Strain challenge first and aced it on our second try due to some lucky Role draws. I was Containment Expert and basically spent the game doing my job and containing, and my buddy was Operations Expert so we had an excellent network of research stations. Towards the end-game he pulled a Special that allowed him to swap roles, so he went Medic and we finished it off from there. Very satisfying session.

Next up was the Mutation challenge that uses the purple cubes. We came very close, curing all but one disease, but we were outgunned with our crappy Role draws. It was a valiant effort though, and had we just a couple more turns we probably could have triumphed despite our bad luck.

We're definitely getting much better at the game and I'm feeling confident we're probably ready to tackle at least the base game on Hard difficulty.

Tried the solo variant of Dungeon Run Friday night but was left with a negative impression. It's definitely not a solo game imho. Take out the backstabbing that comes about in the end game with multiple players and it's pretty boring. I don't think it will play well with even 2 or 3 players. My guess is that the game will shine when you get 4 or more.

We did 4 players last night and it was good and looks to get better as the essence of the game is how to successfully be a jerk while playing for the end game. We have a bit to learn still but I think the game is going to go well in our group.

But the hit of the evening was Quarriors where games take about a half an hour or so including set up and you just play one mindless fun game after another. The only "disappointment" in the game is that we couldn't seem to screw other people over with the corrupted dice. I think of the probably 15 games we played with corrupted cards a corrupted dice was rolled exactly once.

I know seppe and I love Quarriors, and I think even arichnerd enjoyed it even though he noted it didn't look his type of game when he saw us playing it the first time. I love it because of all the things you mentioned. As for corruption, don't forget that there are setup variants in the back of the expansion's rule book for adding more corruption interaction.

checked (and copied) the FAQ.

Two things:

1) when a creature dies to an attack (and Assistants are indeed Creature dice), it is then Safe from further Attack Damage, so our repeated loop with the Ghost won't work.

2) an OOze copies all aspects of the creature, and yes, it is still that creature when the other is gone (unless you change it) and yes it has any (destroyed/return) abilities, but then has to copy something else when it returns to play.

My son loves this game already.

We started by setting up Quarriors: Rise of the Demons with a modified version of one of the setups in the rules... we just mixed in the Corruption spells into the spell deck (sometimes you get a Corruption spell, sometimes you don't) and then dealt 4 corrupted creatures and 3 base game creatures. The trouble with that is sometimes you get a setup where there's little or no chance for Corrupted Quiddity to come into the game, which is really silly if you do draw creatures who interact with Corrupted Quiddity. I think we figured we'd just play our next game with all-corrupted creatures. I don't mind the Corruption spell being open to random chance though. There's only 3 spells per game and I'd hate to force one to be present each time.

I generally hate it when an expansion replaces, rather than complements a base game but in this case I think the Rise of the Demons corrupted creatures are just better and more interesting.

Hepcat, IIRC awhile back you mentioned in this thread that you were going to play Here I Stand. Did you wind up playing it? How long did it take, and did you enjoy it?

It looks like I'll have some extended gaming time during the holidays, and I'm pondering if I'm ambitious enough to try a game of this.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed. I understand it's a great game and that it's loved by many, but we played for 10 hours and we still weren't even close to finishing. Eventually folks just tired of it and we ended it after the first person had to go home for the night. I think my max amount of hours for a game is between 3 and 5. Beyond that it has to be one of the best games ever invented by humans to keep my ass in a seat.

Other than that, the diplomacy phase just slows the game down to a crawl as everyone debates deals and talks about unions in sidebars. Even when timed (as the rules call for) it still drags on and on and on.

The game's probably just too smart for a guy like me, but I didn't really enjoy myself.

I think my max for a board game is about 3 hours. To go beyond that it has to feel like I'm playing multiple games. Like having a campaign game and a tactical game where each tactical game feels like a separate game instance.

(Played it 2player with my son for a few games, went to the FLGS and played with our friend the owner for a couple hours, then went to play 4player until 3am)

I will need to get a copy of it... and the 3 promo of course.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, probably not going to happen. It's the kind of game that I wish I could send back through time to me in high school or college, when all night gaming binges were viable.

CSI always has a sale going on, so you don't need to buy. Now they almost never have a sale going on for stuff I want to buy or they put it on sale the day after I order (you bastards!) but that's another story and shouldn't influence your decision to buy anything at all.

I'm debating another order for a few things I didn't get last time but I am strong. I can wait a good long while for my next order.

Yeah, we enjoyed the two games we played. It is pretty quick. The dice rolling brings a bit of HeroScape into the mix, but you have cards that you can use to boost your standard ship powers. It's definitely a casual title, but for $35? I'd say it's worth it.

Yeah, I was looking at adding Mage Knight and 1955: The War on Espionage to my Battleship Galaxies order and getting the free shipping.

However, if any of the Chicago group wants to pool their order, I would just get Battleship and whatever they wanted if it had the same end result.

I know that Super Dungeon Explore is getting great reviews, but I honestly have no desire to play it for some reason.

Mage Knight seems to be the heavier title and can be fully solo-play. It also has a variety of play options for groups, MP solitaire, minor interaction, or full on PVP. The main issue is the playtime and the brain-burning AP caused by the surfeit of options available each turn. Yes, a surfeit.

Oh, side note. I should be getting Eclipse tomorrow or so. My wife recently got a new HD camcorder so I am thinking about doing an unboxing and subsequent review (after I get some plays in). I'll post the link if I do.
