It's part of my property taxes. Otherwise I would feel the same as you. We have 70 gallon bins given to us by the city. 1 for recycling and 1 for garbage. With a 70 gallon bin, I put out the trash once a month or less most of the time. I fill up a 10 gallon bag of trash every two to three weeks and the recycling gets filled about every other month.

The recycle bin gets filled to overflowing most weeks because Curio City and Wife together generate more incoming cardboard than I can reuse. Trash is a different story -- every 3-4 weeks would be plenty if it weren't for odor (we don't have a garbage disposal). Although that's changed since we adopted two kittens. They go through a lot of litter. Even with that, at least 75% of our waste is recyclables.

We pay an annual $180 trash fee. Those who want to opt out can get a dump sticker instead and haul it themselves.

We've got two giant bins that get picked up weekly, although we typically only fill one of them (mostly with the aforementioned diapers). We recently gained a second similarly sized recycling bin, which is totally necessary since that pickup is every other week and we recycle more than we trash (plus others in the alley seem to like putting recycling in our bin).

If you call and cancel, you might get a visitor from your local health department. Ask me how I know.

Regardless, I'm surprised they don't offer different plans. Our garbage pickup is like $81 a quarter and that's for a weekly pickup of 50 gallons. They offer a senior discount and an associated 30 gallon a week pickup. It's only three of us and 50 gallons a week is ridiculous, but I'm not quite convinced we can go down to 30.

I use a trackball and here the last few week my finger associated with the right mouse button twitches all the time. So when I play Civ 5 I kept sent my units to randoms places all the time. It makes for a much more interesting game.
I have to put the trackball aside unless I need to use it right now.

Also, diapers don't burn, they melt. While that might sound scary, what it was is some neighbourhood kids (I'm guessing) lighting our garbage cans on fire (maybe someone flicked a cigarette butt. Who knows) at the side of the road. There was nothing left (not even the can, which was plastic, and literally gone) except for melted diapers.

What a coincidence. I just had a trash can catch fire recently. Damn near burned my house down because it was sitting up against it. Fortunately I was alerted to it quickly and managed to dragged it away before the fire got uncontrollable.

Thankfully the fire station is only a mile away so I had backup arriving quickly and they made sure it wouldn't flash back.

What's the price difference between the two? May have to look into switching over to those...have 2 kids of my own and getting rid of that stench all day long would be a total game changer!

When we went through the nightmare of our basement sewage flood, the water department guys tried to pin it on flushable diapers in our line. We had never used any of these, so it was a non-issue, but it prompted a whole tirade on how flushable diapers aren't. It does appear that a lot of them (from someone else's house) were involved in the blockage in the city pipe beyond our house lateral.

Not having bought regular ones I'm not sure, but everyone told me they were more. There's the initial investment of the shells ($8 or so each?)and the flushable inserts are around $0.45 each in bulk iirc. Just be sure to keep the washing machine clear in the event of side leakage.

We did some tests on how they break down and I'm comfortable that they won't clog/damage drains but I'm no expert.

Cookie theft

Five men have received prison sentences of between 16 and 44 months for the theft of a trailer containing £20,000 worth of Jammie Dodgers.

The trailer was taken from Burton’s food factory in Torfaen on 17 June last year, after the gang had travelled from Liverpool to Gwent to carry out the theft, Cardiff Crown Court heard this week.

The thieves gained access to the factory in stolen vehicles, posing as DHL delivery staff.

In constructing my garden wall this weekend, I had to use a wheelbarrow a bunch and while it is nice to lift heavy loads, it's still, well heavy. The I read this today on DubiousQuality.

Why aren't these still made?? Two wheeled cart type models are not equivalent because the single wheel can go places 2 cannot. Or at least my searches have turned up nothing. Have I found my million dollar idea?

They state that bicycle panniers work well. You could get some hard-sided ones that would work, or figure out a way to strap a plastic tote to the top of it.

This is just a WTF story all around. Louisiana Tech hires Tyler Summitt, the 23 year old son of legendary coach Pat Summitt, as the head coach of their women's basketball team. Two years later, he abruptly resigns after impregnating one of his players. Journalists start writing about how this somehow "tarnishes" his mother's legacy.

There is not a single person involved here that showed even a semblance of good judgement. The school for hiring a 23-year-old as a head coach (I don't care who his mother was). The coach for sleeping with his player (and vice versa). Anyone who tries to connect this back to Pat Summitt.

They did the same thing in Brussels (I think), except they installed several specially-marked phones in public squares-and-what-not, and basically let any passerby answer them. It was on the news a while back.

The keys are staggered because the keyboard is designed to be like a typewriter keyboard (where the keys were connected to levers that needed to be spaced out).
