We understood that. It's that you don't like redundant captions. I'd say that caption brings a bit more to the picture. The picture itself would be funny. The caption adds a bit to it.

I disagree. I originally saw that photo without any caption, and it was funnier for me because it made me stop and think about the context, giving me a little "Aha!" moment when it clicked. The caption commits the cardinal sin of explaining the whole joke up front, which diminishes it IMO.

My main point was that it does potentially add something. It's not completely redundant. Now, whether that addition is worth it... that's a different debate.

I would not have caught the joke without the caption. I'd have just taken it as an intentionally absurd bathroom sign.
