I rarely understand art stuff but some stuff stirs emotion in me and some asks me to think about stuff.

Same here. Terrific.Years ago I had a StumbleUpon site where I collected similar art; I wonder if I ever linked to his older works?

How the eff are you supposed to dress your Kindergarten kid for 'dress like a nerd day' at school? She has no idea what a nerd is, so this school event is about to teach her. Thick fake glasses? Sure sucks for her two classmates who really do wear very thick glasses every day. Pull her pants up high and give her a bow tie? Remember kids, you want to laugh at others if they dress differently. Oh I know, maybe I'll try and do a positive spin and dress her up in a lab coat or scrubs. Congrats, I've just taught my daughter that those are professions to make fun of.

Email the teacher and ask what they wear to school every day.

I'm not often one for angry letters or PC but this a time for angry letters (without dragging your kid into it, or course). What's attempt at exclusion and belittling next? Racial stereotype day? Religious persecution day? Disability day?

Who thought that was a good idea?

Or the principal.

It also might be a statement to put the child in a child sized cap and gown but that's a huge expense for such a trivial statement.

Can you just get her a pair of those oversized Hulk Fists and tell her to get ridiculous when someone asks her what kind of nerd she is?

Looking around me in the office, I think you just dress her in whatever she normally wears. Nerds are largely indistinguishable from non-nerds these days.

Alternatively send her in with a headless rubber chicken and blood dripping down her chin and tell the teacher you got confused.

Someone in their 40s or 50s who remembers being in grade/high school? "Nerd" was a common and PC costume back then. They even made movies about them.

Yeah, it's a dumb idea but it's probably just someone not adjusting to the times.

Dress 'em like this:

N.E.R.D

They could play "In Search of..." in class.

We really liked the graduation cap & gown idea. It was between that or going with a lab coat she has and playing up the scientist angle, and I think we're going with the lab coat. Our daughter already really loves doing chemistry experiments, so we're going to play up the angle of 'nerds are cool and get to do fun stuff like the experiments you like to do.'

And on another technical related note:

I just got one of those "this is Windows support and you're computer is reporting that it has a virus. Will you let us connect to your computer so we can fix the problem?" scam calls.

I like to keep them on the phone for a bit and play with them. This time around, I wasn't disappointed.

Caller: Hi, this is Windows technical support. Your computer is reporting that it has a virus. We will need to connect to your computer to fix this.

Me: Okay

Caller: (seemed to be surprised that I said Okay) Okay, I will get my supervisor and he will walk you through the process.

Me: Okay

Supervisor: Hi, is your computer on and are you in front of it?

Me: Yes.

Supervisor: Good, what do you see?

Me: You

Supervisor: (hesitantly) Me?

Me: Yes. You look good. You been sick?

Supervisor: What?

Me: Where'd you find a pair of Juicy sweats that size?

Supervisor: (realizing I'm messing with him) You can see me? Am I f#$@ing your mother?

Me: Go on.

Supervisor: Why don't you blow me, you motherf#$@ker.

Me: I'm listening.

Supervisor: I should kick your ass, motherf$@%ker.

Me: Which one first?

Supervisor: (goes on for about another 30 seconds just swearing in the most vulgar manner possible)

Me: You done yet?

Supervisor: (pause)

Me: hello?

Supervisor: (hands phone to someone who obviously wasn't listening)

Minion: Hello, this is Windows technical support. Your computer is reporting a virus and we...

Me: <hangs up>

Um, you can only see the woman's chest. Her face is completely cut off. Wtf? Marketing was like "You're going to be here awhile. Here's a woman's chest. Enjoy!"?

Or it just that the picture is cropped across her neck?

When someone at the checkout pushes their religion by saying "Have a wonderful day, and God bless you" I usually have the urge to respond "Hail Satan" or "With all of its noodley appendages." Sigh.

I've never taken offense at that kind of thing. I just see it as their way of being polite. I don't read any more into it. If I did, I'd have to also take offense at Muslims telling me Allah be praised, or Scientologist telling me my emeter readings should be off the chart.

Yeah, I see that sort of thing almost as a type of cultural greeting, not an attempt to push religion. I've seen enough of the latter around here to see a distinct difference.

I have in my hands the following: A hammer, a wrench, a blister, one nail, and a dozen screws.

Nothing good can come of this.

A screwdriver! That's what I meant. The wrench is the twisty thing with size-changing wheel. The wood is called 'my house.' I don't have it in my hand.

Since I can't raise my left arm above my shoulder anymore, I needed height. I shall proceed by balancing on a $20 Wal-Mart desk chair that tilts, swivels, and has wheels.

What could go wrong?

Just to be safe, I think I'll pre-dial 911, then set my phone on the floor so that I land on the 'dial' portion of the screen when I fall.

A wrench lacks the size-changing wheel. What you are referring to is an ADJUSTABLE-wrench. Also referred to in certain circles where I frequent as a "Crescent-Hammer"
