Its into the 60s for highs right now and 44 for a low....brrrrrr. This is just some winter thing I cant remember what my grandma called Im sure...like blackberry winter or some stuff.
Blackberry winter is a colloquial expression used in south & midwest North America, referring to a cold snap that often occurs in late spring when the blackberries are in bloom. Other colloquial names for spring cold snaps include "Dogwood winter," “Whippoorwill winter,” "Locust winter," and “Redbud winter.” The different names are based on what is blooming in particular regions during the typical spring cold snaps.[1][2] Another colloquialism for these spring cold snaps is "Linsey-Woolsey Britches winter," referring to a type of winter long underwear which could be put away after the last cold snap. The Blackberry winter term may have arisen to describe the belief that a spring cold snap helps the blackberry canes to start growing.[3]
Oh ya Dogwood winter too.

As a kid my grandma tried to make me wear and undershirt until the end of May. It didn't matter if most days were in the 70s and 80s :) And she got her way until I was around 12 then Id get out, rip it all off, and jump in the creek while fishing with my friend :)

My dad was an electrician. He basically wired this county / town / area. My brother was also. Same with the grandpa that helped raise me. Hell he worked on the Manhattan Project. I hate it when I have to get someone to wire something for me. Makes me mad sad and remorseful at the same time.

So does anyone hold the rights to very old music such as Mozart and such? I was listening to classic Kasey Kasum top 40 and heard a hit song that featured part of Beethoven in it and started wondering if you used old music in your own hit are you liable to someone?

Heres one of those stupid questions I could look up but prefer to look stupid.

Im not entirely sold on the safety of our well water. I used to soak dog food with hot water from our tap. Not done it in forever.

If our water had bacteria in it would the water heater's 120 degree heat kill it over prolonged exposure to this temp in the water heater or is it one of those instances where that temp would just allow something grow all crazy like in it's environment?

Chicken needs to be cooked to 165 to be safe. When they think there's stuff in the water, they issue boil orders. 120 is like a nice, warm bath to bacteria.

We can get you a kepi.
Spoiler:
Yes, I know it was the American Legion.
SFGate
Water heater tank temperatures in the neighborhood of 120 degrees create a supportive environment for the presence of Legionella and other bacteria. The temperature setting on a water heater thermostat actually only represents a maximum temperature when the tank is full and completely heated. Temperatures in the tank often fall below the indicated maximum as hot water is used and cold water circulates into the heater. It is at these lower temperature ranges of 95 degrees to 115 degrees Fahrenheit that Legionella bacteria multiply and become established inside a water heater. A study by the American Society of Sanitary Engineering showed that the bacteria cease to multiply when water temperature reaches 120 degrees. They are not destroyed at that temperature, however, and can survive to be conveyed to an outlet such as a shower head or faucet.

Foul need to be cooked thoroughly to taste right but red meat, even burger, tastes not so good unless it's cooked to the point of a warm center and nothing more.

According to the Canada Safety Council:
Bacteria

In 2000, the Walkerton disaster had sent a wake-up call about the safety of Canada’s drinking water. While standards for domestic hot water must consider scald prevention, they must also address the broad spectrum of public health and safety issues. To minimize bacteria contamination, water must be stored at 60 C or higher.

For example, temperatures under 50 C may increase the risk of Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia, due to bacterial growth in the tank. That disease is caused by Legionella bacteria, which live in water. Temperature is a critical factor for Legionella to grow. The risk of colonization in hot water tanks is significant between 40 and 50 C.

Legionella bacteria most often enter the lungs due to aspiration. (Aspiration means choking such that secretions in the mouth bypass the choking reflexes and enter the lung.) Drinking contaminated water is not a major cause of Legionnaire’s disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 8,000 to 18,000 Americans contract the disease annually. Five to 30 percent of the cases are fatal. While Canada has no national statistics, Hydro-Québec says about 100 people a year are hospitalized in that province for pneumonia caused by contaminated residential water heaters.
60C is about 140F, while 50C is about 122F, so 120F is sort of at the high end of the "Legionella incubator" range.

And now I wonder why I don't have legionaries disease. Somewhere in the 90s GIRD did a serious number on me and now I aspirate all of the time. I'm actually surprised I don't have more lung problems than I do... Which is to say going from a lot to "You're not dead yet?"

I now wake up every damned night aspirating and coughing on post nasal drip. Regodamnediculous.

140 Mbps here, which is in line with other speed test sites I've checked in the past. Shockingly, I'm only actually paying for 100Mbps, but I consistently get 130-140Mbps download rates. Who'da thunk a cable company would exceed the nominal service level by a third?

The default standard here is 60C/140F, specifically to prevent bacterial growth, but which is also hot enough to cause scalding and given sufficient exposure time (just a few seconds), third degree burns. Unless you've tinkered with the water heater thermostat, it is probably set at the prevent-bacterial-growth temperature rather than the non-standard prevent-cooking-in-the-bathtub temperature (generally 49C or lower). Unless his water heater is simply malfunctioning, I'd guess that Daehawk's is deliberately set to prevent scalding.

Going back to that Canada Safety Council article (which I forgot to link previously), they recommend that hot water be stored at 60C and if needed, anti-scalding measures be implemented between the storage tank and the faucet.
The bottom line is that water must be stored at a high temperature as a precaution against bacteria. It can be delivered from the tap at a lower temperature to prevent scalds.

Most people reduce the temperature as the water comes out by mixing hot and cold water. The basic precautions are common sense.
  • Never leave a child alone while drawing water in a bathtub, and check the water temperature before putting your child in.
  • Test the water temperature before bathing or showering.
  • Turn the cold water on first, then add hot water until the temperature is comfortable.
  • Teach children to turn the cold water on first, and the hot water off first.
If the water that comes out of your tap is too hot, you can install valves in the plumbing lines to reduce the temperature of the water delivered at the tap by mixing in cooler water. Another option is to install anti-scald devices at individual taps; they slow the water to a trickle if it gets too hot.

In homes with small children or elderly occupants, it may be appropriate to turn down the temperature of the hot water tank. For those who feel compelled to do so, the Canada Safety Council recommends a temperature no lower than 54 C. If you are unsure how to make the adjustment, hire a qualified professional such as a plumber to do the job.
BTW, in the interest of maximizing the thread entropy, I'll point out that the reason I happened to have this article on tap (hyuck-hyuck) was that I stumbled onto it awhile back when fact-checking the temperature cited in this web-comic. :)

I was thinking along the lines of a hot shower where its straight from the tank and in vapor form and all. Heat plus vapor in an enclosed space and such.

I'd be more worried about inhaling radon in your shower than Legionnaires. Regardless, if you don't turn on the shower first, let it run for a few seconds and then step in? That's bacterial and fungal bukkake. Granted, for healthy people it's not that big of a deal, but I wouldn't want to roll the dice every day with a blast to the face from water that's been sitting in/on/around your shower head.

It takes minutes for the water to get hot in the master shower. Since it's not a tub, there's no chance for me to not have all of it completely flushed by the time I step in.

I can't seem to finish anything lately. So far this year I've abandoned three or four TV shows, 2/3 of the games I've started to play (with another likely soon), have three novels half read with no desire to go back to any of them, several home projects are half-planned, and I have a whole stack of half-painted miniatures on my painting table.

Note that I haven't stopped any of these activities. I abandon one show for another, one novel for another, one miniature for another. I just completely lose any desire for Thing X after a relatively short time, and these are all things I'd normally relish.

Some things I find liberating to give up. Decisively abandoning a TV series is a load off my back. Putting a book down feels like taking a critical stand.

I think it's unplayed games that bug me most. I'm choosy about them, so if I bought it, there's almost certainly something I thought would be enjoyable. If I can't enjoy it, I feel like the problem is me.
