I saw that video earlier today.
The climb was hard to watch but when he stands up at the top of the crane? Why.... why would someone even think of doing that!!

I used to have one of those! Good lord it was huge and weighed a ton and I could use it only at certain times because it was so damn LOUD! I still kinda miss it because it was given to me by a friend who ran one of the first BBSs I ever used around 1994.

One speech scientist build the first synthetic yet unique voice.

Speech boxes, such as those used by Dr. Stephen Hawkins, only use very generic voices. By analyzing whatever sounds the patient *can* pronounce, and compare it to known speech samples, she was able to pick out the unique characteristics of the patient's voice, and by taking those characteristics, and mapping them onto a "donor voice", the speech synthesis unit can be programmed to have a unique voice, that nobody else would have that can be later adjusted to account for age, gender, and other accents.
