Guy, yeah. But Carson's hands are totally presidential material! They're also movie stars. If only you could surgically attach those hands to Kasich, he would be unstoppable!

Marco Rubio: Not going to turn over GOP to 'con artist' Donald Trump

Building on the fake Trump University issue, I think Rubio has finally found his avenue of attack on the Donald. Took long enough!

Well, it would have required one of the campaigns to take Trump's campaign seriously enough to have done opposition research.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize Trump's a flimflam artist.

Can I say flimflam on this site?

Yeah, that blew my mind. Even if you don't take the guy seriously it's just smart to build up a list of possible attacks, and Trumpland is a target rich environment for christ sake.

Maybe it's like looking for a needle in a needle stack. Hard to find the really good stuff?

(I was thinking the reason they wouldn't attack Trump was because he can't be beaten that way - how can you be better at hurling insults than trump? All you might end up is getting as muddy as him and he thrives in the mud whereas they don't.... but that doesn't explain not looking into it)

Well, I guess Rubio is trying to imitate Trump and grab headlines.

Trump has been fighting at a 2nd grade level since the start. Remember his comments about Hillary Clinton's supposed backstage bathroom issues a while back? Now he's calling Rubio childish for saying the word "peed"?

What an a-hole.

Gov. Chris Christie is endorsing Donald Trump for president.

Appearing next to Trump in Fort Worth, Texas, Christie said Trump would "do what needs to be done to protect the American people."

"The one person Bill and Hillary Clinton do not want to see on that stage is Donald Trump," said Christie.

"He is re-writing the playbook of American politics," said Christie, "The best person to beat Hilary Clinton in November is undoubtably Donald Trump," said the governor.

Trump, the front runner for the party nomination, called Christie a great friend and great talent.

Christie assailed U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, saying that the junior senator from Florida was "in the last days of a losing campaign" and not long for the fight.

The governor, who quit the race on Feb. 10, dismissed recent criticisms from Rubio of Trump, saying that "No one is going to get inside this guy's head....There is no better fighter than Donald Trump."

Christie jumped right into the campaign talking points and heaped praise on Trump.

"We don't need any more Washington, D.C., politicians (in the White House)," Christie said. "There was a time when we were running together and I wanted to beat him ... but this is the best person" to beat Hillary Clinton.

That makes sense in a certain fashion. But if you're Trump; you'd also have to seriously consider Kasich...were Trump the nominee. I'd think Kasich could deliver Ohio. But honestly would Kasich be that power mad that he'd want to hop on Trump's crazy train? Its going to be fascinating to watch this evolve.

As a Dem I'm not sure I'm completely sold that facing Trump is a roflstomp; it would be a serious error to underestimate him, considering the amount of backing he's gotten.

Chris Christie Throws His Weight Behind Donald Trump Campaign :ninja:
It probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, given that both men are bombastic authoritarians who think their charisma can paper over shortcomings of their policies (Christie was wrong, but we can't yet say the same for Trump). Christie's debate shtick was to look directly into the camera to seem more personable and to interrupt any actual discussion of policy by the candidates who were also senators to complain about them just "talking" about issues and not actually doing anything. The last thing he did of note in the race was to get Rubio some negative attention by pointing out Rubio's tendency to keep repeating talking points (which Rubio has clearly learned from and used it against Trump just last night).

For libertarian conservatives Christie has been a non-starter with terrible positions on surveillance, military intervention, and medical marijuana.

Also worth pointing out that Both Rubio and Cruz voted against Hurricane Sandy relief which might be part of the explanation.

Christie can see the writing on the wall. Plus, what are Christie's options? Rubio will never forgive him for the Rubiobot shot, and Cruz is an asshole.

Trump is pivoting to focus on the general election already, and the GOP has been selling flimflam for decades. It's terrifying, but it's almost too late to stop the Trump.

I guess it was about a week ago that I saw the handwriting on the wall and started reading everything about Trump that crosses my screen, because there's a strong likelihood that this blowhard will be our next POTUS and I am trying to understand (a) how that could possibly be and (b) if it will really be as disastrous as it seems -- i.e., to what degree does he really mean the garbage that comes out of his mouth.

Conclusion: Verbiage about Trump spews like a fire hose, and drinking deep from it must be what waterboarding is like. I need to take a step back.

He seems to be using "prestige" in the original sense.
Origin: mid 17th cent. (in the sense ‘illusion, conjuring trick’): from French, literally ‘illusion, glamour,’ from late Latin praestigium ‘illusion,’ from Latin praestigiae (plural) ‘conjuring tricks.’ The transference of meaning occurred by way of the sense ‘dazzling influence, glamour,’ at first depreciatory.

I actually thought it had to be an Onion story when I first saw it. Very hard to believe and very sad. Heard that Christie was wanting to "make an impact" (rather than do the right thing) and endorsing Trump was the way to do that. Plus he is likely angling for a cabinet seat. Very disgusting.

IRS commissioner chimes in (speaking in a general sense)

He says it would be rare for anyone to be audited every year - once you're audited, you're generally not audited again for a number of years unless something in the returns pop up. And he says that the tax payer controls his return, and that there's generally nothing in an audit to prevent someone from making their return public.

While still hopeful that Mr. Rubio might prevail, Mr. McConnell has begun preparing senators for the prospect of a Trump nomination, assuring them that, if it threatened to harm them in the general election, they could run negative ads about Mr. Trump to create space between him and Republican senators seeking re-election. Mr. McConnell has raised the possibility of treating Mr. Trump’s loss as a given and describing a Republican Senate to voters as a necessary check on a President Hillary Clinton, according to senators at the lunches.

McConnell is basically saying "The ship is going down. Save yourselves".

Trump's tax returns likely raise questions about his "successful businessman" pitch. Some companies are audited every year because of their size, but an individual only receives regular audit attention if their businesses are extremely complicated and raise tax issues. Plus, the IRS focuses where they think additional revenue can be raised -- so Trump may be taking questionable tax positions.
