Re: Random randomness
I make I guess what you call a Kansas City style BBQ and it uses brown sugar and either Ketchup or Tomato Paste. Again, I think it's better when I sub real maple syrup for the brown sugar, which I suppose I would never do if I had to pay retail for the syrup rather than getting from my old man, who makes it as a hobby.Unagi wrote:Daehawk wrote:No no no no sweet does not go on meat.
Any good dryrub for ribs is going to include brown sugar and often white as well.
How much sugar do you think there is in ketchup?
Tons of BBQ sauces begin with a ketchup, and/or include sugars or honeys.
Honey glazed ham?
grilled onions on your burger maybe?
I just don't think you realize how much 'sweet' you are actually enjoying in many of your meats.

All completely objectionable. I really dislike sweet outside of dessert. In my world BBQ sauce is based on Mustard. I miss South Carolina in that regard alone.Unagi wrote:Daehawk wrote:No no no no sweet does not go on meat.

More than a small amount of mustard goes into my BBQ. Way more then the ketchup. As much as if not more than the sugar/syrup.coopasonic wrote:All completely objectionable. It goes something like
Tomato Paste or ketchup lightly cooked to brick red.
Add Gravy made from drippings
bring to a simmer.
Add brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire, mustard, and anything you want to flavor, such as a hot sauce or garlic or chili powder or molasses if the mood strikes me.
Simmer until it thickens.

Higgins' boss, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, told Higgins to tone down the rhetoric. Instead, the man dubbed by the media as the "Cajun John Wayne" resigned - and now he's running for Congress. Higgins, a Republican, is one of seven candidates vying for the seat in Louisiana's southwestern district, which is being vacated by Republican Rep. Charles Boustany, who is running for Senate. Also in the race: former gubernatorial candidate Scott Angelle, the fundraising leader so far. What Higgins, 54, lacks in money he makes up with fame. His over-the-top Crime Stoppers videos have been growing in popularity since last summer and even made it onto "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," where Fallon jokingly suggested Higgins should run for president. Higgins - who says he's of Irish, not Acadian, descent - is counting on his straight talk to boost his candidacy.

I really wish they would limit in-game ads to the same rating as the game. Little B 7.4 was playing Rodeo Stampede on my iPhone today (a cutesy endless runner where you chase and lasso animals), and it gave her the option to watch a 30-second video to continue a run. I told her to go ahead, and the first thing the ad showed was a bullet-cam view of some soldier's head getting blown apart (was for some sniper game, apparently).

An artificial pancreas, a device that automatically regulates insulin dosage for Type 1 diabetes patients based on real-time glucose data, may be a reality soon. Medtronic ($MDT) is nearing final data for a pivotal trial of its Hybrid Closed Loop System. It reportedly expects to submit to FDA for approval by the end of June, with an anticipated launch by April 2017.

What's with this trend now a days to make people feel worse than they are. The news media exaggerates the headlines and brings up minor issues like they were big deals and the weather people always talking of temperatures as "Heat Factors" or "Wind Chill"?

I spent two years in Northern Maine where wind chills reach 70 below. They close the flight line down. WW3 will have to go on without us. (I worked on B-52s) Wind chills are real. So is heat index. I also spent some time while in the army and the air force in the tropics. (I like the cold better) None the less it is trend that is more in vogue lately.
