Really good machines for the fun. Tron was the best of course. Been watching stuff on Krull today thinking back to those days.
Tron, Star Wars, and Star Trek were probably my favorites back in the day.

If I want an open office, I can always open my door. ;)

Actually, AT&T is generally going toward open office environments I think, but the legal department will almost certainly never go that route.

What harm can come from mixing clerks entering basic data into systems with administrators entering secret (not top!) information in full view of 10's, if not hundreds of people?

Should be much longer before all the office workers get moved from open offices into the cloud.

Star Wars and Star Trek...how could I forget those? My mind is broke. Always loved when you put tokens in Star Trek, Spock's voice would say "Welcome aboard Captain"

The cloud office is just someone else's building.

I was in one for a couple of years. My office, as a lowly programmer at the time, was probably 4-6 times the size of a regular cubicle, had a door and a window (that could open!) and a separate door that led to my cohort's office. I didn't even have to go into the hall to discuss things with him.

The worst part is that I didn't appreciate it one bit. I was of the opinion that they could plant me under the stairs and I'd be perfectly happy.

Today, I wistfully recall that office.

I used to really like ESPN's mobile app because it would only push actual breaking news. They have apparently decided to go completely nuts with their push strategy. I've received 17 notifications today alone, consisting of critical sports news such as "Saints coach Sean Payton believes it's "madness" that the NFL doesn't employ full-time officials like other leagues."

Bye ESPN app.

I had to uninstall it from my tablet a while back, because even after I changed the setting to NO notifications of any kind, it would still buzz all day long with every headline. Was driving me crazy and draining my battery.

My car hit 200k miles this morning. 2003 Civic Hybrid. I still dream of the day I can replace it, but the thing won't die...which is good at the moment as I can't currently afford to replace it. Such a vicious cycle.

This is the weekend you get an extra hour CivVi. That hour will not be collected on until March 12th.

That's not so bad, as long as you're including the decimal places...

I can't remember the last time mine was less than 4 digits. Of course we charge as much as possible to get the rewards points and then pay it off every month, so it's not a big deal.

I put everything on plastic. All my bills go through the CC first. It's much easier to track that way. I try to live off of $700 a month, plus about $300 for things that can't go on plastic.

I wish I had the energy for that. If I had the energy, then I wouldn't be dreaming of retirement, so I would my spend chicken scratch savings on entertainment instead of dreams of not having to work.

Yeah, I'm probably about $200 a month for food, so we're right in synch there. Only it's cheaper by the head (and better variety per meal) to feed more people, so you're probably eating a bit better than I do. For instance, if I go for comfort food, a box of Mac and Cheese is (forcibly) two meals, whereas it's a dish with something else for four people.

Theres just the two of us and we barely eat anything yet our food bill is nuts. We've been without anything but water and some bread for 3 days. Today we go get whats needed plus some goodies we want like stuff for me to make a meatloaf. Ill be very lucky to get less than $100 worth. Then the next three weeks we just resupply parts of that and such and it runs about $80 a trip. We have no money or food by the end of the months. I used to have food stamps and so did my wife. We got married and they took them away. Nothing else changed. Its awful. Groceries cost waaaay too much and we eat so little. One aisle and maybe 5 items and we are over $20. Food takes most of our free money. Theres no money for movies or anything unless we do without something else. Sucks.

And to be random.....my mind has been stuck in the past the last few days...this time on Star Trek Enterprise. Im surprised it was 2001 - 2005. Does not seem THAT long ago...11 years. My dog who died at age 15 in 2013 was just 3 years old when it started! I miss that show right now for some reason. Been watching lots of clips on YouTube. The song is stuck in my head....and yes I liked that intro song. Also hated that last episode. I thought that we had no Trek for a year or two after Voyager then Enterprise came out but it says online V ended in 2001...the same year Enterprise started. Strange the way your mind / memories work.

:(

I can't imagine going hungry. I eat simple and have never had a want for food. I could eat a $.25 instant oatmeal and 2 $1 instant pizzas and drink water every day (after coffee withdraw) and be happy, if my health could take it.

Food has finally been coming down in price to match gas. I hope that translates to your table. I can buy and freeze 80/20 burger every few months on sale for $1.69 a pound at Meijer (and pork is cheaper) and a gallon of milk is down to $1.55 at Aldi. Eggs are cheap. If you have an Aldi in driving range, I highly recommend them.

Hunger is no joke. They just opened a food pantry near my employer to help college students that are unable to afford regular meals. I'm very thankful that I haven't needed to think about how every $1 is spent at the grocery store in s long time and cannot imagine the stress that would be involved in trying to do so for a family.

Wow. For myself and two kids (I have the kids 50% of the time, so that's the equivalent of myself and one full time kid) I spend $320/month. That's enough to never miss a meal, not eat bags of dried rice or ramen, have one special 'big' meal every couple of weeks along with a special desert. I always have fresh meat and a fair amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. It still leaves enough to keep myself in tea and distilled water (for said tea.)

Of course, I don't buy soft drinks, don't do desert every day, and don't eat out, either.

I don't want to think too much about how much we spend on food for a family of five. It doesn't help that my wife is vegetarian and gluten free. We spend a lot of time in the produce section, and that can really add up.

What dives me crazy is my wife gives over 80% of her meals to the dogs.
And then complains she's hungry.
Yes, I know, just feed her less. It doesn't work that way. Nor does having talks with her.
At least the amount of dog food I buy each month is minimal.

Simple solution. Put the dogs outside when she eats. No dogs to feed = more food for her.

Simple solution - buy her high-walled plates and a bib with a pocket on the front...

My kids 'accidentally' feed the dogs while they eat, but we have a pretty strict "No Feeding" policy during dinner. The dogs might get scraps when we're done, but only in a designated dog area and never while we eat. We won't tolerate puppies trained to beg for food at every meal.

So the issue is not so much her feeding the dogs as your unwillingness to take action to stop it.

Speaking of not eating cheap or healthy while my budget is already shot for the month...

T Minus three hours until I order a Jet's 10 while it is on special and eat pizza and play Civ Vi until waaaaay too late. I'll probably even drink Coke and smoke cigarettes. I've been waiting a week and a half for tonight. I'm living on the edge.

This the problem when I blow my budget. I spend like drunken sailor and really blow my budget. I am now well past that four digit mark and there are still 11 days left in the cycle and more grocery shopping and gas to get as well as my home owners insurance yet to pay this month.

I replaced my clock radio after something like 20 years of service (it finally got unreliable), and the replacement has some kind of internal regulator that basically says "fuck you I know what time it is", even though it is slightly out of kilter with the time on everything else in the house, and everything else in the house is effectively in agreement with the bus schedule.

Attempting to adjust the time changes the date on the clock, although the date doesn't visibly display anywhere when you're not making adjustments. And apparently, I managed to send my clock into the future a few days while trying to adjust it to bus time before locating the instruction booklet and determining that the clock wasn't going to tolerate this kind of insubordination. I failed to change it back.

So yesterday, my clock started on Daylight Saving time.

Honestly, I think I need to replace the new clock with one that actually allows microadjustments. When I'm waking up, I'm not lucid enough to mentally adjust that I have fewer minutes to get to the bus stop than what the clock says.
