I'll settle for the suitcases full of money.

This is why I have Thanksgiving and Christmas on my terms. 90% of my family is either insane, addicts, or have their heads so far up their asses that they think their own nostrils constitute skylights. I haven't done a 'family' event in years, and I'm far more relaxed and happy for it. It used to cause me no end of anxiety that I'd have to deal with all these complete strangers once a year until I woke up one day and was like "No I don't" and haven't gone to a family function since. Now, the holidays are spent with just my immediate family, and I'm happy to host and have a nice limited event.

I don't get it. You have young kids. Short of funerals and even including weddings, you are the arbiter of what is and what is not reasonable. Unless your wife is the insane pull, you just say "unreasonable" and that's the end of the story. Now the wife's expectations a whole nother ball of fish. She will inform you of what it means to be the arbiter of what and what is not reasonable (until such a time as you realize you were meant to live a solitary life. :shifty: )

I don't play that game, at all. You can guilt trip the other side of my closed front door. Good luck with that. I stop caring really quick what people think of me if that's how they expect to get me to do things.

If you agree then fuck the guilt. What do they hold over you? If they want to make you a pariah for considering your work and children above their neediness, then you get even more time! If they want to make your lives miserable for taking control then you cut them off and get even more time!

Did I ever mention about the realization that some of us better in the solitary life?

I absolutely love my family. I love getting together in small doses. As large as of a family as I come from the golden rule is at the top of everything. You offer everything and expect nothing... Probably because everyone else is the same way.

Yesterday, my blood pressure was 116/69. This morning it is 147/82. I have no idea why that is...

Also, I've had an earworm since before I went to bed last night this morning.

I went to bed at about 0300 and got about 3 hours of "sleep" after that. I just knocked back a double espresso, so for now I'm feeling like I'm on Easy Street, and it feels so sweet, because the world is but a treat when you're on Easy Street...

Woke up with a massive headache, which has now somewhat subsided, now I'm just feeling nauseous (which might be an improvement over earlier...)

I had the Bug on Tuesday. I woke up feeling iffy - not great, not horrible. I haven't used a sick day in 6 months and figured I was due, so I called in. My wife scowled at me for playing hookie. I kind of was, but heck, I also kind of felt icky. I was looking forward to a day of bad "B" movies and video games. After everyone left, I fired up Stallone's Dredd on Netflix and curled up under a heating blanket because I felt a little chilly... by the end of the movie, I felt very sluggish, sore, and like my stomach was being used to churn butter. The movie didn't do it, but that 'ick' struck full blown and I found myself running back and forth to the bathroom 6 times that morning (thankfully not puking). By midday all I could do was lay down and drift in and out of consciousness. Getting up meant nausea, and I spent some time sitting on a stool in the bathroom, staring at the toilet wishing the feeling away (again, nothing). I had pangs in my right side, like a needle being driven in, several times. I stayed in bed, under the heating blanket, for most of the day. No appetite, not thirsty, just flatlined. I slept for about 16 hours that day, and woke up feeling 90% the next morning. By the end of the second day, I was 100% again.

Turns out there's a stomach bug floating around the office, and I was the fourth person that week to call out with it.

I guess the lesson here is that if I feel even remotely unwell, I should stay home. Half the time it turns out to be real, and the other half I get to have a nice day off.

Yesterday I was perusing Yahoo and noticed Ad Block was blocking some 340 items. Yahoo never did stop loading even after 5 minutes.
I may have to give up Yahoo and other sites just like I have with so many TV channels I gave up on because of too many commercials.
I don't like the news I'm seeing any more anyways.

Ok here goes nothing....

If someone important is really reading here...we need a Mechwarrior movie series. A serious one with the first two covering Inner Sphere house wars and at the end of the second movie the Clans show up. Ok..got that? Thanks.

I have never seen smoke like this before. All around us there are 33 wildfires and 54,000 acres going up. The air quality is below crap today. It looks like a thick fog outside. I cant see down the street or the hill across the road. Hard to breath outside. Those with health issues are in the hell. Its horrible. Its almost unreal out there.

Yeah, I live in the Greenville, SC area and it's smelled like fire for about a week. There is haze each morning - it's crazy. Some rain in our area today, but I don't think there is any in the actual fire regions. They said something like 30 of the fires are attributable to people throwing cigarettes out their windows - which is really genius seeing as we are our rain is 10" below normal.

We are 18+" below in rain. Total for the year is 25" or less. Its the worst ever recorded. The next driest was 1991.

Saw on the news where some asshat intentionally started a wildfire to get views on his Facebook and go viral. He is in jail now I do believe. I say if people die he should be charged with murder. Not sure how they will charge him for damages already.

Ive had arthritis in my left shoulder over a year now. My doc gave me a prescription gel for it called Voltarin or something. Its been getting worse. This month Im in terrible pain so at my appointment this morning my doc gave me a steroid shot in there.

Now my arm is all weird. Its not numb or tingly but its as if its half asleep...like maybe someone with MS might feel. I cant control it totally. Ill reach for something and miss or fail to grasp stuff. Kinda strange. Hope it goes away. My wife says when she'd get a shot like this it could last a couple days. Its so weird.

Ad Im still in gut wrenching pain if I accidentally try to raise my arm or use it for anything other than let it hang there.
