I suspect all of us who are into gravedancing are gonna have a lot of opportunity to dance a virtual dig on the graves of a lot of idiots who refuse to get vaccinated this winter. Again I say, not rooting for the virus, AGAIN I say, if this winters COVID season is as bad as I think its going to be. It *will* affect an election.

So the Illinois healthcare worker mandate goes like this:

First dose by 9/5.

Second dose (if a two-dose schedule) by 10/5.

If not fully vaccinated by 10/5, must test weekly.

If not fully vaccinated by 10/31, termination of employment.

Exceptions for health conditions, religious exemption; must test weekly.

Sounds similar to ours, except we just bumped the deadline for first dose to Sept 15th and second dose to October 15th. Weekly testing until fully vaxxed, and must wear N95 mask and eye protection in all facilities. We have exemptions but I'm guessing you better have a damn good reason.

Summary here. Interesting exception:
Is anyone excluded from the Order?
Yes. The Order does not apply to:

Healthcare workers employed, contracted or volunteering for any state-owned or operated facility;
Not sure what that's about....prisons and jails?

Do you have state-owned / operated group homes? I'd think prisons/jails are in that too, yes. Here in NJ there was some confusion over group home employees and our state mandate and they're now racing to get vaccinated as they are required as per the governor's clarification.

Hold on a second, I need to sit down and drink a nice Scotch while reading this:
A New Jersey woman - who went by “AntiVaxMomma” online - was accused Tuesday of selling about 250 fake COVID-19 vaccination cards using Instagram
Let's see 250 cards at potentially up to 5 years of jail time each...That seems like a lot of time. Maybe there are mitigating circumstances that will help the judge be more lenient
Jasmine Clifford, of Lyndhurst, peddled the fake cards using her self-described anti-vaccine social media account for about $200, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. A co-conspirator employed at a New York clinic, Nadayza Barkley, would add the buyers to New York’s immunization database for an added $250 fee, prosecutors said.
Oh, I see. I hope the make the example of all examples out of these two. Like...100 years from now people will speak of this case. What there's more?
Thirteen people who bought the fake Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cards work in “frontline and essential-employee settings, including hospitals and nursing homes,” according to the district attorney’s office.

Those buyers face charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument, officials said. In all, prosecutors alleged Barkley entered 10 people in the vaccine database.
Burn them all.

If you look at Indonesia, the antivaxxers are mostly people of color and muslim.

In US that majority is white, it is not surprising you see mostly white antivaxxers.

Almost 1 in 8 U.S. nurses haven’t gotten the Covid vaccine, pitting them against a growing number of hospital systems implementing mandates

I was reading an article online about how in Israel 80% of the people are vaccinated but over 50% of those vaccinated caught covid anyways. Then they go on to explain that it's because most of those vaccinated people were olde people, who were the first ones vaccinated, and still very vulnerable to the delta version because it's been so long since they were.
I believe it said they had taken the Pfizer version and everybody needed to get a third dose.
I believe the article was from the NY Times.

I read an article that said most Israelies have Pfizer, and Pfizer knows that they're going to need a new vaccine eventually, with eventually being pretty soon. Their mRNA tech can produce an all-new vaccine within 95 days of a target being defined, which is really impressive but doesn't include time for testing.

At what point does covid-19 become covid-22 (or 23 or whatever)? I suppose the disease will be covid-19 for as long as we're dealing with descendants of SARS-CoV-2, which is going to be a very long time, even if those variants stop looking much like their progenitors.

The part I italicized is incorrect.

80+% of (eligible) Israelis have been doubly vaccinated. The statistic you probably heard of, those with serious illness, 50% were vaccinated (I think it's actually a little lower now). But very, very few of those who were vaccinated were seriously ill or got covid (Only about 11% of Israelis have gotten covid during the pandemic, (and the majority of those were before there were vaccines).

In other words, it's not saying "if you got the vaccine, you had a 50% chance of getting covid (or a serious case of covid)", it's saying "if you got a serious case of covid, you had a 50% chance of having been vaccinated".

Now, half of seriously ill people being vaccinated may be scary, but it isn't as scary as it sounds. As the percentage of the vaccinated grows larger and the percentage of unvaccinated shrinks, we would expect that more of the cases would be in the unvaccinated (but that there would be fewer cases overall). Just consider this - if everyone was vaccinated, breakthrough cases, of which there will be some, will be all of the cases - in other words, all the cases would be among those who are vaccinated (but, again, we would expect far fewer cases overall).

Right now, the 20% of the population that is unvaccinated accounts for 50% of serious cases, while the other 80%, who are vaccinated, account for the same number of cases. So the people who are unvaccinated who get covid are far more likely to end up with a serious case than someone who is unvaccinated.

Also, consider that those who are most vulnerable (the elderly and those with comorbidities) are almost all fully vaccinated. So that 20% of the population should, on average, be younger and healthier than those who are vaccinated, and would, in a completely unvaccinated world, be less likely to get a covid case that gets serious. (On the flip side, those vaccinated who are elderly and/or have comorbidities are the ones most likely to have a breakthrough case that turns serious, which is why booster shots are prioritizing them)

Yikes. Nothing like a radiologist (Dr. Fielding) spouting nonsense over masks and vaccinations. I'm beginning to think there is significant rot in the medical community (sarcasm).

What's weird (to me) is that so many states require that public health officials have a medical license, but they don't specify any requirement about having a background or license in public health. Even in my own state, for board members, the requirement is to be a resident of the town you're representing - that's it. Directors of health departments do need degrees and backgrounds in public health, but the people that technically are above them on the org chart? They have a mailing address that is agreeable.

My point with all this is that it's no wonder it's crazy town from coast to coast. Up until 2020 it didn't matter. Now that it does, you're seeing just how unqualified the people in decision-making power seats are and it's frightening.
