Re: people still alive that you thought were dead
Eh. I read the first book. I really didn't enjoy it. It's just not the kind of entertainment I enjoy. For reasons that I don't want to get into.
Edit: And that's a confusing 'top of page' post. But I'm going to leave it just to let people wonder what I was smoking...

Not wanting to name he who shall not be named but not wanting to slay every 77 year old man in Florida (although if it worked just might be worth the cost) I referenced "A" (specific) Florida man.

A news blurb today suggested he will be losing Mar a Lago, so he might not be "the Florida guy" anymore, just TFG.Unagi wrote: Thu Nov 30, 2023 3:17 pm BH was teasing Jaymann. Saw Joni Mitchell perform at the Grammy's the other night, and was blown away, both because I thought she was dead, and to hear how great she sounded considering the considerable health trouble she has had over the years. I never lost my shit like so many teens coming of age when they discovered her music, but I can recognize her absolute unique genius.
Also, Billy Joel?! Didn't think he was dead, but that new song he wrote? Loved it.

One person I keep thinking is dead is Margaret Atwood, but I recently saw she's doing a cameo in a popular Canadian TV show. She's Canadian royalty.

She's "just" 84, and I think she's still writing. Her last novel was four years ago, but I believe she's still publishing poetry, essays, and reviews in various venues.Rumpy wrote: Thu Feb 08, 2024 2:05 pm One person I keep thinking is dead is Margaret Atwood, but I recently saw she's doing a cameo in a popular Canadian TV show. In the 1950s and 60s, his songs stunned and delighted listeners with their irreverence, wit and nihilism. Then he gave it all up to teach mathematics. Lehrer is still alive at 96 – so I went in search of answers

Talk show icon Phil Donahue dies at 88
Phil Donahue, who flipped the script for daytime television by tackling controversial issues in front of a live audience, has died after a long illness, his family announced in a statement on Monday to People and NBC News.
He was 88.
“Donahue died at his home surrounded by his family, including his wife of 44 years, Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie,” his family said in a statement to the outlets.

I find it a little odd that the only entity to be referred to as "beloved" in that statement from his family was his dog.

My mom watched Donahue religiously so I absorbed some of it by osmosis. He seemed like a decent enough fellow, not the type to stir up conflict or drama IIRC. Or maybe I'm thinking of Mike Douglas. She watched them both, and I think they were contemporaries, so I might be conflating the two.
