Just another vote for the Expanse books. They are outstanding, and even better than the show (which is also outstanding!).

I haven't seen the show, but I'm on Book 6 in the series and am really enjoying them.

I only occasionally peek into this thread because I'm reading the books and want to avoid spoilers. I've seen the first two seasons, though, and they're excellent hard SF.

I'm not using Google because I don't want to spoil anything. How many books does the TV show cover? I'm on Book 6 and am wondering how far it is safe to watch.

I've just started Season 2. It's a good series, but deviates enough from the books to be annoying as I've just read them. Almost wish I had seen the show first, then read the books. Still fun, though.

Same here! One of my all-time favorite series. And Season 5 is going to pack a punch if it follows the content of the next books where Season 4 left off. I can't wait.hepcat wrote: Fri Oct 09, 2020 8:33 pm Wow, I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realize season 5 was right around the corner! Excellent news.

As crazy as the first four seasons may have seemed, the next season is where the bigger events really kick into high gear. People who haven't read the books have no idea what's on the horizon...and it's one hell of a story.

How can they know they will wrap things up in one season when they haven't seen the last book? Kinda sounds like they are going to eliminate a lot of stuff from the last couple books.pr0ner wrote: Tue Nov 24, 2020 2:58 pm The Expanse has been renewed for Season 6. Re: [SyFy]Expanse
I'm one episode from the end of Season 2 and my biggest gripe is that they changed many characters' motivations. I get adding events or other characters, but changing motivations changes who they are. Still a good show... But the books are better.

When you are cancelled but are given one final season, what fo you suggest they do? You have to go with what you have. And it’s been done before - GOT had to do the same.Scuzz wrote: Tue Nov 24, 2020 3:25 pmHow can they know they will wrap things up in one season when they haven't seen the last book? Isn't the last book due out in the spring? If so, they've likely seen it or at least the out line.

The issue isn't so much that they haven't seen it as that they have to cover 4+ books in two short seasons. Much will by necessity be axed.stessier wrote: Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:34 pm Isn't the last book due out in the spring? If so, they've likely seen it or at least the out line.

It may be that everyones contracts are running out and shooting another season would just cost that much more. Or they want to move on. Shows end for a variety of reasons. GoT wasn't canceled so much as they ran out of time.Grifman wrote: Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:25 pmWhen you are cancelled but are given one final season, what fo you suggest they do? Streaming service goals. Netflix wants each show for a few good seasons because of getting new subscribers. Thats a factor here too

I watched the first ep over lunch today and was very pleased.
Also, is it me or did they step up the effects budget some more this season? Tycho Station has never looked better or more detailed than it did in that episode.
