I have thick, wavy hair. On the days I wash it, it's like fluffy straw. So I probably shower more often than I wash my hair. Showering daily also makes my skin extremely dry. I understand the daily compulsion, but when you're prone to obsessive-compulsive behaviour a mandatory daily shower can also be a huge time sink.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

$1B development, 7k homes ... $142,857 per unit in development costs.

Latitude Margaritaville
NEW HOMES STARTING IN THE LOW $200s
I'd say that's surprisingly reasonable for a Florida retirement community, but then, I may have my numbers influenced by DFW-area real estate costs. My house was purchased at $88/sqft.

Do you count a basement that can't be considered living space because it has not fire escape and independent entrance?

No? I bought at $144/sqft.
Yes. I bought at $72/sqft.

Today

No? $40/sqft.
Yes. $20/sqft.

At least my property taxes are dirt cheap and they better be because my neighborhood has turned into a bunch of viscous by design pitbull owning renters.

The discussion of bathing got me thinking as I soaked in the tub this morning.

It seems I am the only one in the house who still prefers a bar of soap over body wash.

I guess it is just the joy of having something solid and hard in your hand and rubbing it all over your body. The only downside is like all good bathroom toys if you leave it in the water too long it shrinks and becomes soft.

Now get the hell off my lawn.

When Im resting on the couch I listen to a lot of America's Top 40 with Casey Kasem from the 70s and 80s on my tablet. This time it was a weekly one from 1977 and damn the Gibb brothers ruled the top ten.

I cant recall the exact order of the first 3 but I think #10 was Beegees, #6 was Beegees, #5 was Samantha Sange(I think thats her name) with Emotions which I always thought was a BeeGee song because they sing most of it and she sounds like one of them hahah, #2 was brother Andy Gibb, and #1 was of course his older brothers again The Beegees with Staying Alive.

Also they set a new record. Only one other artist had a top ten stay in the top ten for 16 weeks and that was Andy Gibb...this show his brothers did the same 16 week stint with a song in the top ten .

Damn those boys owned music. Loved them and still do.

From the "you couldn't make that up if you tried" headline department, we have this one: Chicken with insulting note thrown into BYU-Idaho apartment.

The note, for those wondering, was "Screw you, Kyler". This is BYU, after all. :)

Though I much prefer showering to the notion of stewing in one's own juices, I also prefer a quality soap brick to gels and such. Speaking of which, if you'd like a flashback to the days when GIs used seriously hefty bricks of soap, be sure to check out Duke Cannon's Big Ass Bricks of Soap:
DukeCannon.com wrote:Enlarge Image

Brick of Soap
This soap product is designed to meet the high standards of hard working men who want to get clean & smell good without using feminine shower gels and accessories.

This product is modeled after the rough cut, "brick" style of soap used by GIs during the Korean War and is manufactured in the same plant that was the primary supplier of military soap for over 20 years.
Their Big Ass Brick of Soap - Productivity includes a pleasant menthol kick, too. And given its hefty size, it'll definitely last a good deal longer "than the dainty soaps your mom uses." (you'll notice they include a fair amount of tongue-in-cheek humour with their products, which I also appreciate).

BTW, they're also quite supportive of veteran causes and the military:
DukeCannon.com wrote:The shape and size of Duke Cannon’s Big Ass Brick was inspired by the soap issued to G.I.’s during the korean war. It is produced in the same u.s. Based, family-owned plant that was the sole supplier to the military during that era.

Today we continue to gain inspiration from the fine soldiers serving our country with our relationship with Bravo Company 2-135.

While big corporations pay MBA’s to conduct months of focus groups, we simply work with our liaisons in Bravo Company 2-135 to inspire new ideas and review any all new products before they launch. Simply put, if it doesn’t meet the high standards of the company, it doesn’t happen.

Duke Cannon Supply Company is serious about its commitment to giving back to the men and women serving our country. That’s why a portion of our proceeds directly supports veteran causes.
Anyway, their soaps are definitely a cut above what's typically available from most drugstores.

The school just notified us that our youngest has a band contest next Saturday, arriving at 9:00 AM. We knew there was a contest, but this was the first we heard of the day and timing.

Here's the problem: We already made plans for next Saturday. My oldest is autistic, and suddenly cancelling plans results in a pretty severe response, as it is going to cancel our plans for both Friday evening and Saturday. Oh, and did I mention that the school is one county east of me, and the contest is one county south? That means I'll have to be up at 5 on a weekend, which is why Friday's plans got cancelled.

This school is pissing me off lately. You don't schedule things like this for 9 AM for kids in a school two counties away, and you don't give parents a one-week notice.

Because our son has been practicing hard for it for weeks and it means a lot to him?

I figured that the lack of a date and time being communicated meant that it was a while off.

Damn companies making parts of their products from plastic just so they'll break. My mower has the front axle on a plastic part. Of course it broke...2 years ago. And of course its high priced for a little piece of plastic..$75. But the mower will not work without it. 2 years ago we had a cousin mow for cheap. Was still too much for us. last year we let the yard grow up...nothing I can do about it. The local church felt bad and mowed it for us....either that or the neighbors asked them.

This year Im trying to get $70 up for the part. Plastic is the devils invention.

$70. I'll cover the $12 2-year protection plan. And that's for after the 4-year warranty (PDF) expires.

FB tells me heart attacks go up by 24% on the Monday following DST.

The news seems to concur more or less but the news always cites "studies" without long standing attributes...

+1. In my experience, opinions split depending on whether you live on the eastern edge of your time zone (as we do) or the western edge. Also whether or not you have little kids. West-edgers with little kids hate it staying light until 10 pm. Us east-edgers are fine with light until 9.

I'd be happy with permanent daylight saving time. I really hate darkness at 4 pm.

Just bought Salt Lake ComicCon tickets for me and Little B 8.0 this Saturday. It's her 8th b-day, and all I've told her is that we're going somewhere cool. She has no idea where. I'm guessing the look on her face when she realizes where we are will be worth the price of admission just by itself.

Her school did a mini-Comiccon as a daddy/daughter event last week, and she was completely over the moon about that. Going to this just may send her into a joy coma. :)
