Salt is the dominant flavor in V8, but it's hard to know how anything tastes to an animal. Cats, for instance, have no sweetness receptors, while dogs enjoy garbage and feces. I once had a cat that loved Doritos.

Well its warm weather..sort of. So its time I do stuff in the yard and I realize ive cut my outdoor extension cord about 4 times. I need to add a new plug to it and get rid of all those splices in it. I also see Im going to lose about 5' of cord lol. Hoping I can get a plug for about $2 and get her done. I need to trim hedges and run a grinder to sharpen all my tools and blades.

Got one. Doesn't look like that one. $5. Also it has 3 prongs. Said they do not sell any with just 2. So once I install it and am sure I got it right Ill either have to use a adaptor or more likely just bend off that ground prong.

If you're regularly cutting holes in your extension cord as you do garden trimming, you need a working ground in your extension cord more than just about any other application I can think of.

I know that feeling. When they did some work on the porch here a few years ago, they were pulling out lead insulated wiring and the nails were hand-forged.

CNN
What happened to a contestant in a hot-pepper-eating contest may give spicy food aficionados one more reason to "fear the reaper," according to a recent case report.

The 34-year-old man, who was not identified, experienced a series of intense headaches and dry heaving after eating a Carolina Reaper, reportedly the hottest pepper in the world, during the contest in New York.

The man developed excruciating pain in his head and neck, prompting him to go to an emergency room, according to an article published Monday in the journal BMJ Case Reports. "The patient ate the pepper and immediately starting having a severe headache that started in the back of the head and spread all over within two seconds," said Dr. Kulothungan Gunasekaran, an internal medicine physician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and a lead author of the report, who was not involved in the patient's care.

"Because he could not tolerate the headache, they sent him to the ER," he added.
...
But a CT angiogram of the brain's blood vessels did reveal something unusual: a substantial narrowing of the left internal carotid artery and four other blood vessels supplying the brain.
...
Gunasekaran and Dr. Gregory Cummings, the neurologist on the case, eventually diagnosed the man with reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome, or RCVS, probably caused by the hot peppers.

RCVS is typically characterized by an intense "thunderclap" headache due to constriction of blood vessels in the brain and usually resolves within a few days or weeks, according to Dr. Anne Ducros, professor of neurology and head of the migraine and headache unit at the University of Montpellier, who was not involved in the report.

It is normally associated with certain medications, such as ergotamine or triptans, and illicit drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines -- not peppers. Severe cases can even be life-threatening, according to Ducros.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

When I moved into the dorms at MU in 1991 they had nothing but 2 prong outlets.

I spent a fair amount of my first day at college scouring the city of Columbia for adapters.

EDIT - also I was discussing something with a coworker the other day and he mentioned he was born in 1992. I'm old.

... :coffee: ... This is the new Gmail design
.
.
Spoiler:
Google revealed yesterday that it’s planning to launch a new Gmail design in the coming weeks. The refreshed design will appear for Gmail users on the web, bringing it closer to the company’s tweaks for Gmail on mobile devices. The Verge has obtained screenshots of the new Gmail design, currently being tested inside Google and with trusted partners. The new design includes some subtle elements of Google’s Material Design, and a number of new features that were originally introduced for Google’s Inbox overhaul of Gmail.

Google is implementing smart replies for Gmail on the web, the same feature from mobile Gmail that provides suggestions to quickly reply to emails. A new snooze feature also lets you temporarily remove emails from your inbox until a certain time, so you can avoid certain email threads until you’re ready to reply. Snooze and Smart Reply are both currently part of Google’s Inbox app for Gmail, and both features are now making their way to Gmail on the web.
.
Ain't nobody got time for that

So with plug in hand me and my apprentice.....my Chihuahua Buster.....gathered up the cord to begin our repair work. Right away my assistant noticed something was not right and barked his findings to me. It seems I committed the classic mistake of buying a male plug when I needed a female plug. He saved us both a bit of time there. So embarrassed. I told him he had become the learned and I the pupil for the next stab we take at it. He seemed quiet pleased with it all.

We had an inch of snow last Saturday. Melted off by early PM. 80 degrees today. Lows below freezing this weekend.
I'm fighting turning on the A/C tonite as the low is only going to be 63.

Scottish police ‘rescue’ metal fans mistaken for suicide pact members.
Emergency services mounted a full-scale rescue operation, including fire engines, ambulances and lifeboats, after a passerby thought a group of heavy metal fans out camping were involved in a suicide pact.

The three men were enjoying beers around a camp fire on an island in Loch Leven, Perthshire on Sunday night, as their children slept in a tent, when they saw the lights from police boats rushing across the water towards them.

“For some reason the police had received a tip that we might be in grave danger and they came to rescue us,” said Panagiotis Filis, a lecturer at Aberdeen University and a founder of the Black Metal Brewery. “They really did a great job of rescuing us, the only issue is that we didn’t need rescuing.”

Todays main food item is pork chops. Thanks to Food City and those nice ladies me and my wife are having pork chops. I will be going the simple way for them. I will season them up with salt, pepper, and some garlic powder and frying them 1 minute on each side. Then I will pour a mixture of lemon juice and soy sauce on them and transfer to the oven for 10 minutes on 400. This is a very simple recipe but they will turn out butter tender and tasty.

I bought the thing used in 2010 and its a 2001. I would think its out of warranty. Hell I couldn't read half the bullshit in the letter thanks to it being in spanish. I cant believe people fall for these scams. I usually shrew it but this time looked the number up online. ...surprise its a scam. DUH. Place makes me laugh.

Bought a pair of work pants from a somewhat unusual place: LAPoliceGear.com. It's not actually run by or related to the LAPD, but they do sell a lot of police-type gear, which apparently includes black/dark blue work pants. I bought the Elbeco Tek3 pants for $9.99 and another two items, paid $8 in shipping, and paid $3 to my local Chinatown tailor to have it hemmed. I'd say the quality is a lot better than the $15-20 pants I can buy off Amazon or in my local clothing shops like Burlington Coat Factory, Ross, or TJ Maxx, but I'll have to try it some more to tell you for sure.

They are also selling "mystery bags", basically they ship you 2-3 random items in a black bag for $10. I got a "mini trauma kit" (it's basically a first aid kid, but much better than your drugstore kind) worth $10 on their website, a bumper sticker, and a pair of "assault socks" (heavy duty crew socks), that seems even thicker than the Dickies work socks I usually wear. But then, given their normal retail price is $8 (1 pair) they better be a lot thicker and softer too. :)

My 11 year old broke his arm getting off a swing as we were leaving the park yesterday. The fun never ends.

I told the wife he never would have broken his arm sitting on the couch playing on his tablet or the Switch. I don't think she appreciated the comment.

https://www.sciencealert.com/japan-just ... h-minerals

Should be another interesting multinational development.
Researchers have found a deposit of rare-earth minerals off the coast of Japan that could supply the world for centuries, according to a new study.
Currently, there are only a few economically viable areas where they can be mined and they're generally expensive to extract.

China has tightly controlled much of the world's supply of these minerals for decades. That has forced Japan – a major electronics manufacturer – to rely on prices dictated by their neighbour.
