Got tickets to Alison Krauss & Union Station in April. This is the first tour she's done with Union Station since 2015 I believe.

She's probably my favorite female country vocalist, and my wife is a big fan as well. Tickets were cheap and they're playing local so it was a no-brainer. I don't think I've ever been to an honest-to-God bluegrass concert before so I think I'm looking forward to the musicians as much as I am Alison's voice.

Pantera just announced a US tour with Amon Amarth. While I think Pantera's early albums are foundational to metal as a whole and have never seen them before, I just don't think I'm terribly interested in this iteration. Last time I saw Phil (with Down a few years back) he sounded terrible. Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante are decent fill-ins but no Dime, no Vinny, and an old and busted Phil? That ain't Pantera. Pass.

The potential job loss budget clampdown at the Skinypupy household will have me skipping most shows this year. I'll be doing Tyr/Aether Realm on Saturday and Maryland Deathfest in May (because both are already paid for), but probably won't see another show until August. Will either grab nose bleeds for NIN (if the price comes down) or hit up the Dropkick Murphys/Bad Religion tour.

I saw Pantera as an opener for Metallica last year and think they put on a good show. I'm not a huge fan and had never seen them before to compare, but it was good for what it was. Zakk Wylde is a monster on the guitar and puts on a hell of a show, so it's hard to be disappointed there. I thought it was cool to hear their hits live even if it wasn't the "real" band, but I can see where an actual Pantera fan wouldn't want to pay money just to see this version.

I wasn't thinking of going to Elder in April until I listened to openers Sacri Monti and Moon Destroyer and found myself really enjoying them.

Tribulation also just announced a May show and it's at my favourite tiny venue! Definitely in for that one. It will make up for having to miss Paradise Lost at the same.

Just bought tickets to take my 10yo son and my wife to see AC/DC at Gillette Stadium in May!

I've never seen them before, my son has become a huge fan of their music, and I really think this will be their last tour, so I'm super excited. We haven't told my son yet, but he's going to lose his shit when he finds out we're going

It's always weird when you go to a show mostly to see the opener. Aether Realm absolutely tore shit up last night (as they always do), and then we just kinda hung around and politely applauded for Tyr who put on a solid but not spectacular show (as they always do).

Fun night, although I had expended all my energy by around 10 and Tyr didn't end until 11:30.

I have started to realize at the last few shows how much better the sound typically is standing at the middle to the back instead of being up front. I’m torn though, as being up front gives you all the fun crowd energy.

Depends on the band for me. If it's a band I'm really familiar with and my brain can sorta "fill in the gaps" when the sound isn't great, I definitely prefer jumping up front(ish).

If it's someone I'm not as familiar with, I tend to hang back. Unless the front looks like a killer party, then I'm in.

Man, booking agents really have it out for me this year. First they put Ministry and Die Krupps up against Paradise Lost, and now those bastards booked REZN the same night as Elder (and Sacri Monti). I mean the first two acts are different enough, but booking two shows with stoner appeal on the same night is appalling.

I forgot to jump in here and mention that I saw Dream Theater when they were nearby a couple weeks ago. I've been a casual fan since the 90s and the return of drummer Mike Portnoy after 13 years away was enough motivation to finally check them out live...and I was not disappointed! The level of musical talent on that stage is just mind-blowing, and the fact that they can all play incredibly technical music for a solid three hours is crazy. They don't put on the most exciting show, but it was great to just be present and take in the experience.

Going tonight to see a cover band do The Who's Tommy (and round out the 2 hours with a few other hits). $25 for table seats at a non-profit venue in Aurora, saw Off Broadway there a few years ago, nice place.

Some years ago, before streaming media killed music sales and touring became nearly the sole revenue source for musicians, I was tempted to pay $200 a seat to take my mom to middle of the road seating for Simon and Garfunkels. I could see the intervening years jacking that price. Now, I wouldn't do that but I can see where people with means and who value artist x that much doing so.

I figure my $10 shows of old are now all easily $40 shows if I ever get out again and at the time there was as rare indulgence for upwards of a $100 (once for Tom Petty and once for Roger Waters) and I'm cheap and that was 15 years ago at this point. So box seat passes or first five rows to Taylor Swift for the right person who is well off enough at $700 a seat has be a shoulder shrug.

it was around $300 for floor seats at the last Depeche Mode concert - as a 'most favorite' band for some years and as i have been seeing them on every tour since 1993, i figured i finally should go for that once. it actually was a pretty good show, but i will NOT be paying that much again.

other big money expenditures were Roger Waters (twice) and the 'final' Black Sabbath tour. i am ofc glad i went, but i resented greatly paying $100-$150 for seats.

Had a pretty cool experience last weekend, catching a performance of Justin Furstenfeld’s “Open Book” tour. He’s the front man for Blue October. I’m not a huge fan, but Blue October is my wife’s favorite band.

Just him and an acoustic guitar for three hours. Very, very cool.

Now, there were some sub-$100 tickets in the corner nosebleeds, but most prices were $200+, and nearly all sections only had singles available. I saw Carl Palmer at this venue last year, got second row center for about $75 the day before the show. Also saw Anderson's former bandmate Rick Wakeman there last fall, I think that was around $100 for center nosebleed.

(even if El Corazon is a _shithole_ of a venue -..... also i have beef against them as i bought tickets to a show where Pop Will Eat Itself were going to co-headline, but then cancelled due to visa issues - i wanted a refund, and the door guy said 'take it up with management' so i went to Sunn0))) that night instead, but management refused, and my credit card chargeback attempt failed. as a result i never buy advance tickets to any show there, and there are times i just decide to not go to shows i actually want to see there)

I like Mumford and Sons (and band with a banjo not from Deliverance country interests me). His opening act in Chicago is Michael Kiwanuka, whose music I find more interesting. However, my apathy for the city these days means the only concert(s) I'm likely to go down there to see are Grant Park Symphony shows.
