Back on track for now. I've been drinking protein shakes for lunch which I think has helped. I'm still not where I want to be in terms of exercise, but for now I'm maintaining my under 200 goal.

Omg, complete collapse of the willpower dam between me and calories yesterday.

It was ugly. Worse, it had nothing to do with Canadian Thanksgiving.

The next couple of weeks will be chaotic. I've already packed up the pantry, and on Saturday movers will pack up the whole kitchen, and then next week will be entirely consumed with moving and unpacking. So frozen dinners, takeout, restaurant meals, and stress will rule the next couple of weeks.

I suspect you'll discover that kettlebells are a much more effective and efficient tool for developing overall strength, endurance, and muscle while greatly boosting fat-burning potential, particularly in comparison to dumbbells. This is because kettlebell routines engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, with a strong focus on core strength and stability. Every single muscle is used, and every single muscle is worked hard during a kettlebell workout. This is a key reason for the growing popularity of kettlebells; they provide a low-impact, full-body workout in less time than most other forms of exercise, as kettlebell routines typically combine cardio and strength training, allowing for shorter workout durations while still achieving maximum results. Weight has been dipping back to below 171 so I upped my daily intake by another 50 calories per day. I'm guess as the weather gets cold and I jog less that this going to cause a dramatic shift but I want to build muscle and maintain or even have a light gain so I'll keep fiddling. Even at 3400 to 3500 calories day now, I'm almost always hungry.

I ran 19 miles yesterday, only ate 2200 calories, and somehow gained a pound - so I'll swap with you! :D (I know it's just daily variation, but I'd prefer it to vary in the other direction!)

19 miles :shock: My knees are beginning to feel the five miles I jog/walk. I suspect I get so many calories because of my crone's and I'm just no efficient at extracting calories nor nutrients, eating is doing very little to curb my hunger and even when I'm up to 140 grams of protein a day I'm not building strength from all my activity. Still, I'll keep plugging along.

My left knee is beginning to feel the jogging. it's not really pain but it might be soon and it might be if put stretching or strength stress on it. I may need to take another day off from the jogging. I've already gone from 5 to 4 as my jogging time gets longer. 4 to 3 could be in my very near future. I'm reducing my daily steps mental floor and trying to work on alternate workouts. Working on plans for leg strengthening/more full upper body strengthening/core strengthening/stretching, yoga maybe. It will be a while until those plans come together. I'm not a quick mover on these things. My weight continues to stay in a good range but I'm monitoring it.

I have accomplished much this year. Losing weight isn't part of it. Now that I'm out of my old neighborhood I've stopped walking entirely, although I'm still far from sedentary. These boxes aren't unloading themselves and some furniture is still shuffling around.

I am a pretty rabid walker. I walk 7 miles 5-7 days a week. My total walk distance for this year so far is 1196 miles. I have also lowered my weight down to the 178-182 range. The last time I was at this weight was in my early 30's after about 6 months of South Beach which was an effective diet, but not something I could stick to long term. I am 51 now and the last time I was in this weight range was in my 20s-early30s. (My all time heaviest when I was married was around 240.)

Of course for weight loss, the exercise is just the cherry on top. It's much more about what and how much you eat.

Wow, been awhile since I checked in. Weight still creeping downwards, which is good enough, I guess. Maybe a 1-1.5 lbs a week. Slow but steady.

I admit to being low effort this time around.

Adding another 50 calories a day to my "extremely active" budget.
Screwed up my intake since the the 23rd so I edit my total. I had been marking two eggs a day and I've only been eating one egg a day. Not sure how that happened. I wonder if those extra 90 calories a day have anything to do with my perpetual hunger and my weight's continuing stability. I've not been jogging as I fear the feeling in my left knee will turn to pain if I continue put stress on it like I have. I was going to pick up today but it's supposed to rain. Trying to get steps in walking after I've been ramping up jogging for nearly a year just doesn't work. It's literally hours of my day that I don't want to give. I'm still mentally working on alternate exercise/active energy time and effort but I haven't put together a real plan much less started acting on it. I've been doing a leg strength day once a week but that's only been 10-15 of essentially weight shifting though, quite frankly, 10 five second squats are a real workout for me.

Edit: I keep thinking my calorie budget is about to get too large with my reduced activity first from colder weather and no from reducing my jogging but my weight is dipping too low so I'm adding another 50 calories a day to my daily budget. I fear when this turns around it will turn around fast but I guess I will just have to tweak the other way when that time comes. Anyhoo, going to +150 per day now.

I'm not power walking anymore and most likely won't start again until spring, being a stranger in a strange land now. I am going to count my walks to the mailbox and back...just under half a mile round-trip with a couple of pretty good hills. Better than nothing, I reckon.

Knee is still not great. I did get out for a walk/jog once and it was OK. I would have gone again yesterday but it was raining and I can't get out of my head at the moment. My weight is going down irrespective of my reduced activity. I didn't want to add more calories with winter coming on but I'm sinking to toward doing below 170.

Got back up to two days with jogs. I hope to keep it there but I am still mitigating concerns about injury. I seem to be a weight equilibrium for now. I wouldn't mind some slow muscle gain, but I'll take where I'm at, with my reduction in attempt to build muscle for the moment.

Think I've figured out where I can start walking again. We're near the southern end of a rail trail a short drive away that runs for 15 miles, paved and flat. Don't know when, but I want to at least check it out before snow flies.

I'm back to step counting again. I'm doing fine staying under 200 by eating better, but I've gotten a bit too sedentary during the day.
