He was vocally against the war in Iraq; MSNBC cancelled his show in 2003. I don't think he ever believed it was ratings and was instead retaliatory (based on what I've read)

I'm surprised he was that young, was still alive, and had a show until 2003. He was the first day time talk show how I remember along with Mike Douglas. He seemed very old in the 70s to a elementary school kid. Much older than my parents who are now in their mid 80s.

Thank you for thanking him so that I would have a look myself. I skipped it the first time around.

Ian Underwood, alto sax player for Frank Zappa. At 85 apparently he is quite accomplished per wiki:
After his association with Frank Zappa, he pursued a career as a session keyboardist. Underwood has since been proficient on the Minimoog synthesizer, mostly in film.[2] He has been credited in recordings for Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand, Ronee Blakley, Hugh Cornwell, Freddie Hubbard, Jean-Luc Ponty, Herb Alpert, Hugh Masekela, Peggy Lee, Dolly Parton, Chicago, Janet Jackson, Dave Grusin, Jefferson Airplane, Frankie Valli, the Carpenters, James Ingram, and Barry Manilow. Underwood was also one of the musicians who played the main title theme for the 1980s hit series Knight Rider.[3] Underwood was the uncredited producer of the debut album by Alice Cooper, Pretties For You, in 1969.[4]

Underwood contributed synthesizers and programming to the historic recording of the Michael Jackson/Lionel Richie single "We Are the World" (produced by Quincy Jones in 1985); he has also been a featured performer (mostly on keyboard) with James Horner on numerous James Horner film scores including Titanic (1997) and Sneakers (1992).

Cool.

Just yesterday my wife and I watched an episode of The Rockford Files from 1978 where she was the guest star.

Country Joe McDonald is a ripe young 82. I always figured he was fixin' to die in the 70's.

You know, that’s a show that just begs for a good reboot. But they’d really have to pull off a casting coup with the lead. Glenn Howerton? Bryan Cranston? Clooney is a little too old.

It's 2024. If Kathy Bates can play Matlock, you need to expand your list of casting options.

Well, at least until gender-swapping starring roles in unnecessary reboots of classic American TV shows is outlawed in 2025.

Are you saying that it was wrong to gender swap roles prior to 2024? That’s some small minded thinkin’ pal.

Brenda Lee is 80 years old. She recorded "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" when she was just 13, signed her first recording contract before she was 12, and enjoyed a 60-year career, releasing her last album in 2007. Here she is early in her career, already a big star.

What a voice.

I didn't think she was dead, but it seems like Jane Goodall has been an old woman all my life, and now she's getting a Medal of Freedom.

 I absolutely assumed she was dead by now.

I just needed to see if Abe Vigoda has or has not actually died.

Jane Goodall is still very much alive and well. She recently did a collaboration for a documentary about the regreening of our community. Mining practices leading up to the 70's had left our city and its environs blackened and scarred, and through a decades-long effort, has managed to regreen itself.

I had no idea that Rich Little had gone MAGA -- I just read that he is a pro-Trump 2020 election denier. That's disappointing.

I used to see him on tv a lot as a kid during the 70s. But I don't recall thinking to myself, "Man, he's funny!" It was usually, "Get to the Dean Martin appearance, will ya?".
