Am I the only one that shudders with fear every time this thread is bumped?
I think the two I most dread are Shatner and/or Stewart.

I'm pretty sure either would get their own thread. I seem to get notifications daily about rock or punk icons dying...from bands I never heard of. I don't see any point to reposting here and seldom see them eulogized. If Skinnypuppy doesn't know them, chance are nobody else does either.

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
Sometimes celebrity deaths make me sad, especially when they're untimely, but most of those posted here are obscure or even unknown to me. So seeing this thread pop up doesn't inspire the same dread that the pet stories thread does. I feel worse about your cat or dog than I do about a sports player or a minor character on some show I didn't watch.

No, you're not the only one. There used to be a forum I was on, defunct now, that had an entire subforum devoted to celebrity deaths, and the very idea never sit well with me. It made me feel very uneasy and I never quite understood the reasoning behind it.

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
Once upon a time I bought into a dead pool. Celebs were worth 100 points minus the decedent's age. So a dead 90-year-old was only worth 10 points, but a 35-year-old was worth 65 points. I don't remember the buy-in rules but money was at stake, and "celebrity" was defined.
Have you heard of a Marvel character called Deadpool? That's the reference. That's what a dead pool is.
Anybody want to start one? Nickel a point? Someone will have to lay down the rules. I nominate hepcat.

Well, given that Deadpool named himself after an actual dead pool in the facility where he was being experimented on, it's appropriate.

Yes, I know what a deadpool is, but this wasn't one. It was more like a display and archive of dead celebrities. No game behind it.

Celebrity dead pools are all well and good, but a celebrity tontine is where it's at. Especially with C-list celebrities that are really hungry for that payout.

Correct
The "patients", the other inmates, not the guards, were betting on when test subjects would die from the experiments. A "When will they be Dead" pool. Worm, Deadpool's friend in the Hospice, handles the pool

Mike Bullard, Canadian comedian and broadcaster, dead at 67
Canadian standup comedian and broadcaster Mike Bullard has died, his family confirmed Sunday.
Bullard's half-brother, musician Chuck Jackson, confirmed to The Canadian Press that Bullard's family learned of his death on Friday.
Jackson said the coroner is investigating, and the exact cause of death remains unknown for now, but Bullard, 67, did have health problems.
A longtime standup comedian, Bullard hosted two late-night talk shows — Open Mike with Mike Bullard, which ran from 1997 to 2003 on CTV, and The Mike Bullard Show, which aired briefly on Global from 2003 to 2004. He won two Gemini awards for the CTV show.
Mark Breslin, the founder and CEO of comedy bar chain Yuk Yuk's, worked with Bullard and told CBC Toronto on Sunday that he was also a "very good friend" for more than three decades.
Breslin described Bullard as a "fantastic comedian" who particularly excelled at emcee and hosting work. "Crowd work was his specialty, and he was probably the best in the country," Breslin said.
Bullard also worked on radio as host of Beyond the Mic with Mike Bullard between 2010 and 2016 on CFRB in Toronto, but he lost that show after being accused of making harassing calls to an ex-girlfriend.
In 2018, Bullard pleaded guilty to making harassing phone calls to the victim, journalist Cynthia Mulligan, as well as breaching court orders. He was given a conditional discharge.
Bullard travelled to Ukraine in November 2022 to do humanitarian work, raising money and delivering supplies, often near the front line. He returned to Canada in February 2023.

Liam Payne 'Jumped from the Balcony of His Room' Before His Death at 31, Authorities Say
The One Direction singer fell multiple stories at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday, Oct. 16
...
Per a 911 call translated by outlets including Sky News and the BBC, the hotel's chief receptionist alerted police after becoming worried about Payne's behavior.
According to a translated La Nacion transcript, the worker said the musician was intoxicated and presumed he was "under the influence of alcohol and drugs," insisting that someone needed to come "urgently" to the location. Throughout the call, Payne's name was not thought to have been mentioned.
Per Sky News, the worker mentioned that the guest's life might be "in danger" because he was "in a room with a balcony."
"We're afraid he could do something that threatens his life," the manager — who said his name was "Esteban" — added, according to the outlet.
The BBC transcript also stated that the worker said Payne had been "trashing the entire room" before his death.

I don't read this thread much so I missed this one on Monday. Unlike most of the musicians this one does get me a little. Bob Brinker was promoting FIRE before it was even an acronym. I can't say he changed my life but he certainly provided some validation to my financial thoughts back in the late 80s / early 90s.
