I just watched Hansel & Gretel. Not to give much away I was hoping it would end with Hansel settling in with the strawberry blonde and that Edward was cursed and it would be lifted and he'd be the guy for Gretel. They'd found a witch hunting school there in that town. Too bad.

The recipe claims 12 servings. I'd bet it's more like six small or four generous servings.

You can make delicious mac'n'cheese without cream or gobs of butter, but you cannot make creamy mac without them. The one I make is more of a casserole than a glorious gloppy mess of mac'n'cheese. If you want that, you gotta throw calorie counting out the window. If you're looking for a diet-friendlier version, try this:

First make this chili. Then use part of it in chili mac. It takes 2+ hours, but it will feed two people for most of a week. You get a bowl of chili one night, loaded baked potatoes the next night, and chili mac the next two nights (with enough chili to cover a lunch or two as well).

I HATE F'n @#$!#@$!@ gnats!!!

Over a month ago I tossed a watermellon hull in my garbage. Since that day there have been gnats in the house. I used Lysol on the can now. Ive not tossed anymore mellon hulls in there. Yet the gnats stay. They love to come to the opposite side of the house and fly into my eyes or up my nose while I use the PC or watch TV. Most likely while I sleep too but I dont know it so who cares. But damn they are annoying.

gnats and not fruit flies?

this is why organic waste should go in its own separate compost container and regularly emptied or frozen (until it can be emptied outside).

Yep. That sounds like fruit flies. Get yourself some gallon bags and start bagging all leftover food, vegetable cuttings, bread crusts, or anything organic (as in 'was once alive') in it and keeping it shut (I just twist the top shut and fold it under.) Every couple of days (or when it starts to get more than half full) tie the top tight and get rid of it outside. Fruit flies have a short lifespan, but once they're established, they don't require much to keep going.

I hate when someone in the office leaves food leftovers (or better yet, fruit peels) on their desk over the weekend. Nothing like trying to work and having fruit flies in my eyes all day long.

Dont seem to be flies. Just tiny pinhead sized gnats. Damn good flyers though as a fan on high doesn't blow them away and they still find my face.

Get an old jar and put some apple cider vinegar in it. Add a couple drops of dish soap. Cover with cling film. Punch a couple holes in the film with a toothpick.

Best fruit fly trap for cheap.

Our normal temps are 70s highs and 50s lows. It was 100 high today and 72 low. We've broken 3 records today alone. We've broken high records for a week straight. Its been 93+ for over 2 weeks and in the 90s for months. Nor had any appreciable rain in months either. But 100 on the 2nd of Oct is unheard of. Tomorrow will be 98...another record.

Next week it will finally break and be in the 70s for highs and 50s lows. That means between our high now and the low then is a 50 degree drop. Just nuts. We've had no fall yet. So this drop will feel like its freezing with no time between to adjust.

BAM! INSOMNIA! BAM! Its baaaAAAACk!

Been sleeping fairly well for a while now but of course since I need to go all over town today I didn't sleep at all last night. Not a wink. Ive had this trip planned for over a week. Ive thought about it every day and tweaked the plan. I was looking forward to it. But by 4am I started worrying about even getting a nap in. I changed my alarm from 8am to 10am hoping to get a few hours rest. I just needed a few. But now I cant go today. I cant take the chance. When my wife was alive Id go on because she would help me watch and such. Being alone Im afraid of a wreck or worse. I did everything the same as Ive been doing when I sleep. Stop using the pc a couple hours before bed. Drink only milk from there until bed also. It was like a switch was flipped from sleep to stay awake. My eyes are dried out so bad I can barely keep them open without them burning out. Not only was I looking forward to being out a few hours I needed it. I have'nt been anywhere in nearly 2 weeks..maybe more. I lose track after the same old same old days day in day out. My check is in the bank now and I dont get my SNAP benefits until the 11th. My cabinet is empty. My fridge is empty. I planned this down to the day. I dont even have bread or butter for toast! I also HAVE to move some money from one bank to the other for the auto payment on the home.

And just watch. Ill fall asleep sometime during the day today. That will ruin my sleep for tonight too. Plus if I do sleep Ill have to be out Friday with a lot more people. Its all shot to hell. So sick of it.

Matt Damon passed on the lead in Avatar back in the day. He was offered 10%. It earned nearly $2.8 billion worldwide. So he lost out on at least $280 million.

He seems to be doing okay for himself.
Having to say no to Avatar (2009) was tough because I particularly wanted to work with James Cameron, and still do, because he's fantastic. He knew he was the star of that movie and that everyone was going to go see it anyway. When he said, "Look, I'm offering it to you, but if you say no, the movie doesn't need you," I remember thinking, Oh God, not only do I have to say no because of scheduling, but he's going to make a star out of some guy who's going to start taking jobs from me later.

Women's clothing sizes really has ZERO meaning.

Marilyn Monroe wore "size 12" in her days. Now, she's probably around a size 4 in contemporary terms, but could be anything between 00 and 8.

Turns out this "national sizing standard" in 1958 was totally flawed. There was a stipend, in being measured, so it attracted the less fortunate population (who are probably thinner). The data on non-white women being measured are dropped. Then they mixed in measurements of military women from WW2, which would be VERY fit individuals. Add to that, the concept of "vanity sizing" (the label says the item is smaller than it actually is), and you can see the sizing label doesn't really mean anything.

I'm purging my closet of all the old shirts that will never fit again unless I get a wasting disease. I have all these nice short sleeve shirts hanging in dry cleaning bags. Most of them are Mediums, and I figured those would all have to go. But the style in men's shirts in the '80s was so big and baggy that they actually still fit OK today -- they aren't baggy anymore, but they aren't tight, either. I'll admit to being a little pleased that I can still wear Mediums.

Been bothering me for years and I always forget to look - but having just heard Name again (by the Goo Goo Dolls), I had to find out if he ever confirmed the woman he's writing about in the lyrics. I was rather surprised to just learn it's about MTV VJ Kennedy. The 90s were a crazy, crazy time. Someday I'll tell the story of Mac and Jamie in Vermont, but today isn't that day.

I have a denim jacket I first bought when I moved to Texas... About 20-30 years ago. At the time, I didn't understand that denim jackets end ABOVE the waist. As a teenager, I bought XXL. It looked ridiculous on me, but I was getting used to American life back then. I can STILL wear it today... sort of. Can't button it, but it still wears okay. :)

I think the worst part of a root canal is not the actual procedure itself (although that still sucks), but rather your mouth slowly coming back from numbness over the next 6 hours, and you realizing how badly it actually hurts.

My kids' allowance is $3/week. They have to put a minimum of $0.50 in savings and donate $0.50. The rest is theirs to do with as they please.

I maxed out at $1/week through my first job (around 1987).

I never had an allowance and neither do my kids. They get room and board and all the books they can read. This leaves a gap in money management knowledge but they'll figure it out... or not.
