The very first time I tried to launch it after installing, the game didn't start up. I've launched it a couple of times since then with no problem.

On the "won't load" issue, at the load screen, you have to hold the "E" key to get it to load. Seems like a dumb way to implement that. There seem to be problems with certain video cards crashing the game, initial reports seem to indicate mostly AMD cards.

I'm getting a pretty horrible framerate despite having a 980 Ti card and a fast processor, but hopefully it's just something about my starting planet. :(

What did you change your framerate setting to in-game? It defaults to 30 FPS unless you change it. You might try turning vsynch on as well and see if that helps.

Yeah, I was initially worried about the framerate until I went into the graphics options and saw it was capped at 30fps by default. It's already been mentioned, but for some reason you need to click-and-hold for the UI to respond when changing settings (you get a charging-circle icon thing happening with the mouse cursor). If you just click on things, it will appear that you can't change any settings. Indie developers and their wonky user interfaces, amirite? :)

Upping the framerate limit to 90fps worked perfectly, thanks. Instant improvement.

Someone said that's how it works on the PS4 so probably a port issue of some kind? Same thing with holding the "E" to load. Sounds like they did not translate to the PC experience for those things and now they are getting crucified on Steam because people can't figure it out. Lol, death by UI.

Well, this suck, as I seem to be a victim of this problem.

I'm crashing on the White Screen that would then lead to the screen with the little E. (saw it on my sons laptop)

[mildest of spoiler warnings for introductory stuff in the extremely early game]

Well, early impressions are that it's promising but a lot more "what the hell am I supposed to be doing?" than I expected. My starting planet was irradiated so I felt like it wasn't the best place to hang out and figure out the controls, and now that I've launched into space I'm scratching my head a bit at what to do next. Land on another nearby planet I guess?

A beacon of some sort showed up, so I guess I'm supposed to fly there? I'm getting an ETA of several hours, which doesn't seem like a thrilling prospect. I guess I'm supposed to build my hyperdrive first?

A bit more opening tutorial or an option for a wee bit more handholding at first would've been nice.

Well my game is graphically unplayable. Im running an AMD Raedon R9 280 and I can get in to the game OK but once Im on the planet the graphics go whacky. I updated drivers and that didnt help either. I guess I may be out until they figure out their AMD issues.

People are reporting that changing the framerate to "Max" and turning on vsynch in the options solves their framerate and stutter issues so you might give that a try first and see if it helps.

Edit: Unless you mean graphics artifacts and stuff and not framerate and hitching.

Yeah, I'd hold off for a while unless you already bought it. This is why I waited. I figured that them working on it right up until launch meant inevitable bugs.

Pro tip, look for crashed pods, those are a major source of exosuit capacity upgrades. Ship capacity increase is tied to new ships.

Yeah, the Steam reviews are terrible. I put in about an hour at lunch and it's pretty much all I'd hoped for so far. I've just been exploring and repairing/refueling my ship. I'm ready to take off but don't want to yet.

I'm on a 4-year old i5 machine with a Radeon 7700, 16 GB RAM. It's a little stuttery when first launching into the planet. Otherwise no crash or performance issues for me.

GMG has the game now, but apparently no discount is available. That is certainly a first in my experience. :(. $60 is too steep for me.

It's been fine for me. It crashed twice on the PS4. The controls are MUCH BETTER on the PC version, no question. Using mouse and keyboard and will not be looking back. Yeah the E thing is stupid, and the square thing was stupid on the PS4. There was no excuse for the PS4, that never should have passed certification.

Yeah, I haven't had any issues (other than not being connected to the server, which I saw PS4 people having trouble with due to load) and while I would have appreciated a little tighter tutorial, if you follow the prompts it's not too bad. I'm enjoying it (and the Steam community in general is pretty toxic - rare to see anything getting praise there)

I just had to restart my system, as the screen went to black after I hit ALT-F4. I thought it was frozen, but I couldn't ALT-TAB out out or even CTRL-ALT-DEL. I'm going to wait a bit before I go back in. It sure was pretty, though.

This is one of the known issues. You alt-tab, you're done till you re-launch. I'm using windowed mode temporarily till they fix that.

FYI, the game is not Alt-Tab friendly.

So far, I'm enjoying it. I don't have any performance issues and no crashing. I think the built-up expectations are coloring everyone's impressions. I didn't follow it too closely, but I think it's fine. It's maybe not $60 fine, but I'm not regretting my purchase.

I just had my first run-in with The Law after accidentally discovering that destroyed Sentinels drop loot canisters that contain tech items or crafting schematics. I irritated them to the point of deploying an Elite Sentinel, at which point I hightailed it into a cave complex near my ship in order to lose them. There's now a robotic biped walker hanging around the ship, so I'm assuming that is the Elite Sentinel. I reckon I'll have to be on my bestest behaviour for a while.

I read on Reddit that you can change the display setting to 'borderless window' and this apparently allows alt-tabbing without issues and provides a nice boost in performance as well (when you also set the framerate to 'max').

Uh...wow. Just lost two hours of my life in a blink. This is one of those games where trying to figure out what to do is part of the fun. If you don't like that type of game, I have to believe you'll hate this. The first 30 minutes or so was a bit painful, but eventually I figured out what was going on and how to fix/upgrade/create things I needed. After that...just insane. I spent 100% of my time exploring the starting area and then eventually (with the help of a functioning spaceship) the surrounding areas. The idea that I can leave this planet and go to another one (or 1,000,000,000,000 others) is blowing my mind. However, if every other planet looks and feels like this one, I can see where it would get boring. But if you're like me - the kind of gamer that likes exploring and seeing what's over the horizon...the starting planet alone is ridiculous.

The UI does take some adjustment - I think it was designed with console controls in mind. The flying (at planet level) feels odd too at first, but I think I'm getting more comfortable with how it works.

Sticky keys ended my fun - trying to milk the jump pack triggered the ALT-TAB out to the desktop and locked me out of the game. You've been warned - it doesn't like ALT-TABbing at all (which seems to be widely understood at this point).

Regardless, there's a lot going on in this game. It's overwhelming initially, but just focus on the immediate things - like figuring out how to not die.

I just got as far along the initial tutorial path to get the hyperdrive blueprint, redeemed the pre-order Z95 ship (there were rumours that doing so before getting the blueprint might result in never getting it). I'm on my second planet now (still in the Dagobah system though), so it's time to do some more exploration and figure out what I need to gather/craft in order to make my ship fully spaceworthy. I also need to earn enough Units to buy that cool new multitool that is available at the outpost where I picked up the blueprint. At some point I should head back to Barsoom and finish scanning for the full set of fauna before I take off into the great beyond.

For a game that isn't intuitive to save, it doesn't surprise me that starting over isn't an easy option to figure out either. I have no idea and searching online didn't reveal anything for PC - only the PS4. That's very...strange.

Confirmed. I was able to Alt-Tab after changing to Borderless Window.

How do you know if you are following the tutorial path? I've been tooling around, visited some ruins, got enough language to get a happy response from a Gek and got a blueprint (not the hyperdrive) and I was getting a beacon on another planet nearby. I've stopped at this other planet, but I'm not sure if this is just me getting off the beaten path or the tutorial.
