The expanding coronavirus outbreak isn’t only inspiring Americans to buy out hand sanitizer, groceries, flu medication and toilet paper -- it’s also leading to increased ammunition sales, one company said.

...

Ammo.com said that four states saw an increase in sales greater than 100 percent. At the top of the list was North Carolina, which saw an increase of 179 percent, followed by Georgia with an increase of 169 percent.

Pennsylvania and Texas followed in third and fourth places, with increases of 140 percent and 128 percent respectively.

Other states also saw increases, including Florida (76 percent), Illinois (67 percent), New York (48 percent) and Ohio (40 percent), according to Ammo.com.

Does having no brain count as a pre-existing medical condition that makes one more vulnerable to the virus?

Trump is a known germophobe with a real hang-up about contagion.

This is going to end with him holed-up Howard-Hughes style in the Residence with duct tape over the windows.

The question is whether his NEED for for adulation will overcome that. It's going to be really tough for him to give up his rallies.

He's kind of painted himself into a corner on that: he can't be seen giving in to the Democratic hoax virus. The show must go on, because it's all a show.

He's just the former director of the CDC, so feel free to disregard if you want:
This nursing home outbreak of Covid-19 is what we call a "sentinel event": a warning of outbreaks and deaths that may be coming. But these deaths are not inevitable. It is essential that we protect the most vulnerable people -- those with serious underlying health conditions such as respiratory disease, cancer and diabetes and older adults. The overall case fatality ratio for Covid-19 appears to be under 1%, but is many times higher for the elderly.
The threat of rapid spread within long-term care facilities means that if we make the tough decision, now, to immediately restrict visits, we may be able to prevent many more outbreaks like the one in Kirkland. We also must ensure that any nursing home staff who are ill not come to work -- and that they receive paid leave, so they have no economic incentive to come to work if ill. Families want to visit loved ones; we should facilitate virtual visits until we know more and can do more to protect the most vulnerable.
And:
We need to hear from the world's leading experts, including Drs. Anne Schuchat and Nancy Messonnier at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Dr. Anthony Fauci at the National Institutes of Health. We need them to speak to us every day to keep Americans informed about what we are learning, the spread of the virus and what people can do to protect themselves. Clear, credible and consistent information about the virus and the response is urgently needed. Political leaders must take a hard look at the costs and benefits of social distancing interventions. Canceling large public gatherings, switching to telework, and considering closing schools is disruptive, but may be needed in the short term to prevent more severe longer-term impact. At a minimum, we must reduce the risk to medically vulnerably people now.
Our window to act as a nation is closing. The timeline is going to differ based on where you live, but make no mistake, at some point it's going to be too late.

But I wasn't planning on going to the celebration anyway, so...

Next week I have 4 events in 4 nights. An annual meeting (a few hundred doctors, open bar), an education committee meeting (20 people at a house), a board meeting (back room at a bar), and a party (75 people at a rented event space).

Cancellations would be welcome....
COVID-19 cancellation #1 today....

Of course it was the only one that didn't involve driving or a school night.

The small business approach I'm seeing is "We're washing our hands and sterilizing surfaces regularly" and "people should work from home if able"

I can do 98% of my job remotely. If I get sick, or it looks like it's in my community, I shouldn't see much of a dent in my sick time (which is also my vacation time, one big pool). Problem is, we're a small clinic with 50+ employees and 3 sites providing mostly non-essential services. I imagine patients will start cancelling or rescheduling. When that happens we'll have a period of time where business is -very- slow and the owners already consistently complain about tight cash flow. Not sure how that'll play out. I don't see them giving up, but I expect it's going to sting.

Is there business insurance that covers loss of income from viral outbreaks?

Regardless of how bad this gets, I think we're going to see a shift in business philosophy in the future as they start taking this sort of eventuality into account going forward. Work-from-home options are going to become a lot more attractive to a lot of employers.

CDC Statistics on influenza:
2016-2017, 29,000,000 estimated infections, 14,000,000 estimated doctors visits, 500,000 estimated hospitalizations, 38,000 estimated fatalities.
Approximate fatality rate: 0.13%

Trump's proud Coronavirus numbers:
546 confirmed cases, 22 deaths.
Fatality rate: 4.03%

The US is going to have some serious issues with this man advising everyone to go out and lick doorknobs.
