So funny...I actually just made the switch to a cast-iron skilled back in August and have been using it daily to make eggs. There was a learning curve and it does require a little more maintenance, but I've come enjoy the process. It takes a bit longer to cook (in comparison to using a non-stick pan), but nothing unreasonable. Just read up on how to prepare it (don't believe anything saying it comes pre-seasoned) and have at it.

I've come pretty close to get getting a case iron skillet a few time, mainly so I can go from oven to stovetop or vice versa. I have a nice steel skillet that is seasoned for hightemp cooking but it has wooden handle, so it's never going in the oven.

Naw son, that wasn't auto correct. Let me rephrase, "Have you ever fucked with carbon steel pans? On a stove? In a kitchen setting?"
I see not...harumph...

When I get new cast iron I'm pretty obsessive with seasoning it. I bought a 4.5 quart dutch oven last winter for baking bread and I used flaxseed oil, which is expensive, like $14 for 12 oz. Flaxseed oil is best for polymerization.

The whole routine took something like 24 hours. Rub the whole dutch oven and lid with a megathin layer of oil and then 500 degree oven for an hour then cool for an hour and repeat and repeat. Took me a couple weekends but that thing is like a mirror and I can proof and bake bread in it with no sticking.

Carbon steel is great because while you still have to season it and baby it after use it is much lighter in weight than cast iron and heats up quicker. It's still way heavier than a teflon sautee pan but I can still flip food in it because I'm a beast in the kitchen with forearms like Popeye.

I found the best way to season my pans. Once I got them seasoned I reseason almost every use. Not every one but stuff thats acidic takes it off good and baking in a hot oven does too. Plus sometimes I do wash them when they have something I need to wash off. But I simply put them on a red hot stove until the heat reaches half way up the side wall of the pan to where i cant hold it for 2 seconds. Then I remove and put a quarter sized drop of oil in it and rub all around. Its just the perfect temp to have that seep in and as it cools it stays in.

My pans look like black glass and I can see myself in them. Eggs and cheese just slide around.

I ran across a can of BOLD Manwich the other day and couldn't resist grabbing it. We used to love that version and hadn't had it in a good long while. So for old times sake I thought why not. I was very lucky to find some cheap cheap ground meat for $2.50 a pound. I haven't seen any that cheap in 20 years. I figured it would be awful or kill me but so far Im good. Love that bold manwich flavor. I gave up on the Sloppy Joe brand years back as its just way too salty.

Well looking back that whole post seemed to be gay porn related.

Whoops. I was doing a sound test to see how high a frequency I could hear so Im supposed to click when I first hear a sound. The test starts at 22,000 htz and I turned my speakers up a good bit. Im hearing nothing at all then I see my chihuahua freaking out at my feet. For a split second Im like whats wrong with my dog then it hits. SHIT! I hurt the little guys ears. He was scared. Poor little guy.

No more of that. Ill stick to the reaction speed test. I saw it ran on a pro gamer and his were a pretty constant 186 ms or there bouts. Mine run around 202 now..i suck . I bet when I was younger I was damn fast. The fastest I got was 56 but I think that was pure luck.

You should note that your internet connection, computer speed, and monitor speed all played a role in your timing. So you might be a bit faster. 202 is right around what is generally accepted as the human average, so you're not exactly slow.

They killed my car. :(

I had a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid that I loved - best car I've ever had. I got rear-ended on the freeway last week which put a huge dent in the bumper and left one side hanging off. Got a call from the other driver's insurance company yesterday - they're totalling the car. It's worth ~$24K and has $12K worth of damage. I can't figure out how it makes more sense to pay out $24K than it does to pay the $12K repair bill but here we are.

Now I get to go car shopping.

I may wind up with the exact same car but in gray. They dropped one of my favorite features of the 2017 model ("LaneWatch", a camera on the right mirror that lets you see your blind spot) in the later models. And I can't really find another hybrid that I like as much as the Honda.

I briefly looked at Teslas but they're still out of my price range even with about $15k to put down (I have about $9K left on the loan for the Honda so I should have about $15K to spend once that's paid off).

I really just wanted to keep driving the same car. :|

Ive never done it myself but if you have spare money you should be able to keep your old wrecked car and repair it yourself. Or maybe you have to pay something for it. Cant recall.

If I decide to keep it they'll deduct the "salvage value" of the car from the payout. I'd walk way with $12K which might cover the repairs, leaving me making monthly payments on a car that's been totaled and couldn't be resold or traded in - or given that the car is totaled I might have to pay the balance of the loan forcing me to pay out of pocket to have it fixed.

I considered it but it doesn't seem to make sense to keep it.

Also, depending on the location of the accident (on the car) and the speed at which you were hit the insurance agency doesn't want to take any risk that anything happening after another accident could in any way be tied back to them paying you to fix the car. Like if the frame was compromised and the assessor didn't catch that and you lose both legs in a car accident next week because the frame was weakened from this accident. Now all of a sudden that $24k they could have paid for totaling it seems like a bargain.

We live in a disposable society. Washers, coffee pots and cars. Take the money and run.

That does suck though about not being able to get an exact replacement. My (soon to be) classic car is likely irreplaceable as well.

The Weather Channel was showing items you can and cannot carry on a plane according to TSA. Strangely you CAN carry on knitting needles and a charge pack. WTH?

Knitting needles are 1 foot long, made of metal, and have a sharpened point!

Battery packs could explode or catch fire.

What kinda stupid rules are these?

They know people need to carry their battery packs (if you're carrying a spare with you, it's probably not for just for giggles - your device needs it). The crew would much rather see the battery pack catch fire in the cabin, where everyone can see it, and it can be put out quickly. If it catches fire in the cargo hold, the fire will spread before anyone is aware.

A few weeks back I woke up to a voicemail that came in the night before at 7pm. Who calls to confirm an appointment that late? Anyways it was for my 6 month post kidney op checkup. I had to call and cancel. For one I didn't even know I had one. I was actually going to call the next day to set one up. The biggest reason I couldn't go was the cold weather. I only have space heaters and cant leave them on if I leave. And with a little tiny 2 lb Chihuahua at home I cant leave him in the cold for any period of time. So they set it for Dec 3. If they could have set it 2 days later than originally I could have gone. I warned them if it was cold Id have to cancel again.

Looking at the 10 day its supposed to be 27 that night. So Im going to have to cancel again it seems. With it being fall and winter Im just going to simply cancel all together and tell them Ill reschedule in the spring when it warms up. So my 6 month recheck will be a 9 or 10 month recheck. Hope all is well hehe.

Here's a sense of it with regard to income.

If you were so awesome at your work that someone hired you at $5,000 *per day*, and you worked five days a week, you would earn $25,000 per week.

If you worked fifty weeks a year, giving yourself just two short weeks off for Christmas and nothing else, you would earn $1,250,000 every year.

During a long, stable, uninterrupted forty-year career at five grand a day, never once slacking, you would earn $50,000,000 in total.

Even so, you would have to do this job for *TWENTY LIFETIMES* to earn even one billion dollars, and that's not counting the normal and incidental expenses (food, education, housing, luxuries, everything else) you would accrue along the way.

Ask yourself if any of our celebrity oligarchs have ever actually earned a billion dollars.
Much prefer my Nazis Nuremberged.

Just watched Brendan Fraser's Center of the Earth. I remember seeing the trailers back around 2008 and thinking it looked awful. I love the original so wasn't impressed. But it was actually better than I thought it would be. We always loved his work and he was its saving grace here. The girl was cute. The kid though pissed me off as kids tend to do in movies that shouldn't be about them. Here the kid just kept on and kept on rushing forward and getting into trouble. Also Im glad about the ending. Usually these type things the characters have nothing to show for it and its like it never happened. I hate that. Its also a reason I liked the National Treasure movies too.

"Thrash" is a bit of sensationalism to say the least. Parts slowly decompose or deform creating slow, imperceptible movement that can be seen in time lapse photography.
