Looks like Ill be getting rid of tv again in the near future. Got a letter in the mail saying my promotion is ending and price is going up. I cant afford another $20+ over the money Im already spending too much of. Im going to try and watch everything thats on the DVR and in a couple weeks call and see about getting a new promotion. If they wont work me Ill tell them to reshove it and move on. It sucks because this is a good time waster at night when I go to bed or during the day as a break from other shit.
Check out your public library. I don't know your neighborhood, but typically the library has a large collection of DVDs and (often) online access to streaming material for free. Sometimes it's nearly the equivalent of a Netflix subscription at no charge.

Geeeeeeeeee I wonder where the orange moron got his Space Force logo idea from? HMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm

After consultation with our Great Military Leaders, designers, and others, I am pleased to present the new logo for the United States Space Force, the Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military!
The only originality that this administration has is how to hurt the country and its citizens. His wife plagiarizes shit and so does he. POS family.

You don't need to be confrontational, just
stick to the provided script and be sure to deal with a retention specialist. It's an incredibly simple and straightforward process, and cable and satellite TV companies
know they're haemorrhaging customers to cord-cutting and the like, so use that to your advantage. A little prep work goes a long way, so if they make you an initial offer, be prepared to counter with specific examples and prices (e.g. "
I have this promotion from Company Y for $X, can you beat this?") Make them earn your business and work to retain you as a customer, because that's exactly what they're paid to do.

It will take me an extra week for the research. There are no other cable places here but there is AT&T which Id never use and dish and such. Ill have to gather all the info. This is IF they even have retention services and not just Malaysia script readers.

You're on Charter, right? They do. I cut the cord from them 5 years ago. They tried very hard to keep me connected to cable and still send junk mail every other week with new offers.
Have you looked into their streaming tv packages? It wasn't right for me, but might work for you.

Shady cable practices. They wrote that letter and dated it Jan 9 telling me how my discount was over and Id be charged such n such next bill. But I didn't get the letter in the mail until yesterday. So basically a near month on so they can say Ive enjoyed those services all this month and charge me without me being able to have time to fix it first.
Also looking around theres not much in the way of deals online and I cant sit and wait on some coupons to come in the mail offering me a nice discount from someone. Im going to call tomorrow or the next day and see about lowering my bill. If nothing else then Ill cancel tv and save more. Of course they'll raise my internet fee but not by as much as tv alone. Wish we had choice but thanks to my state's evil corrupt greedy bastards government I dont.
Looking at my old bills online it seems they want to go up on tv by $45 and net by $15 a month. Im already paying $15 extra for 'other charges' plus taxes and more fees. Damn company.

Watching "Ice Pilots NWT" on Amazon, following Buffalo Airways based out of Yellowknife, Ontario, flying mostly WW2 Piston engined planes like DC-3, DC-4, C-46, and so on. So close to the north, sometimes they even fly north near the North Pole, plus all the drama with the employees, and crew. A mix of Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Catch, sorta. Lots of editing, of course.

As for Buffalo Ive seen a few eps. Nice old planes. I sure as hell wouldn't want to land on ice.

Mailed a letter of important documents to my healthcare on the 17th. Its from a city to a city in the same state and yet it STILL HAS NOT BEEN DELIVERED! It took it 8 days to simply get to the city. Now its just sitting there. I could have damn well drove it there and delivered it by hand in 2 hours. POS USPS. It needs to be in their hands by early Feb. Damnit.

Hug your kids.
This morning I got word from a co-worker that one of our other co-worker's lost a son over the weekend. No clear details to motive, but he was shot in the head and a friend of his was stabbed (by the same person). I don't believe the son was even out of his teen years.

So this morning, headed home on public transit from my night shift, the bus turned the wrong way when exiting the station that's midway along the route. They started taking me back toward work. This is not a route variation--buses never turn around at this point on the line. The driver obviously had a mental lapse. Amusingly, none of the passengers did anything other than confusedly look around. (I was half asleep and blasting tunes, so I wasn't certain I hadn't missed an announcement about a detour. ) A lady at the back of the bus of 40 or 50 passengers had to walk all the way to the front to ask what was up.
So the bus driver turns off on a side road. A two-lane side road. This is a double-length, articulated bus. They stop, and start trying to back up and turn around... but there are cars following us down the road. So the driver sits there for five minutes, slowly inching backwards, expecting the other vehicles to pass or something, I guess? Most just sit there, evidently confused at what the hell is going on, probably thinking the bus has broken down. Eventually the driver gives up and just continues on to the next major street before doubling back and continuing the journey.
I feel bad for the driver, to be honest. But at least I wasn't one of the ones headed into work for the day.

Somewhat of a rant...
Went to do paperwork ("Live Scan fingerprinting") for a potential job that starts training in 2 weeks. They also want a DOT physical, but the office I went to said the wait is like 2.5-3 hours. They gave me an appointment tomorrow afternoon.
So I decided to also apply for the new California ID, which complies with the Fed "RealID" standard. May as well, right? So I gathered the documents, and they said I can submit stuff online through ID.me. Okay, did that. Apparently an optometric measurement does NOT count as "medical document". Phooey. Any way, I don't have my ACTUAL social security card handy. After all, it'd be more than 30 years old now. I have a scan of it, and NOBODY had ever asked to see it. Seriously, nobody. So guess what the application process asked for me to bring with me to the DMV when I go in for the ID? Yep, the actual social security card. WHAT A CROCK!
Fortunately, my W2 arrived just in the nick of time. Apparently a W2 is acceptable proof of SSN if it lists the whole SSN, not just the last 4 digits. *sigh*

I ran into the same sort of run around getting my "real" ID (what, the one I had was fake?). Fortunately I actually had my original SS card and birth certificate. But get this, they wouldn't accept my birth certificate because it was laminated! To make it even more assinine, this requirement only went into effect a couple days before. So I sat there trying to peel off the laminate (it was put there by the county) with my fingernails. It soon became apparent this would destroy the document, so I demanded to speak to a supervisor. Finally common sense prevailed and they accepted it.

Just found out that ZipCar lets you do "ZipCar for Commuter". They'll let you "rent" a Zipcar just to commute to and from work, and it's actually not that expensive unless you go over 15 miles each way. If I can rent a car for M-F w/o worrying about parking, or gas, or maintenance, or insurance, for $500 a month. I'd jump on that. I can go as far as $800, actually, depending on how far I had to commute.

I'm not sure how old mine is. Judging by my signature I'd guess late elementary school, maybe middle school, which would put it around vintage 1967-71. It's not laminated or anything, just a scrap of paper really, and yet I presented it to get my RealID.

Completely different topic... I can't believe I spent time on calculating whether my current subscription to toilet paper is cost efficient.
I have toilet paper (Amazon's Solimo brand, 30 rolls x 350 sheet for 17) on subscribe and save. I recently came across Cottonelle commercial pack, 60 rolls x 451 sheets for $43. But Amazon's competitive price (620 sheets per dollar vs 627 sheets per dollar for Cottonelle) and lower order qty makes it not worth switching. (In my experience, the Cottonelle commercial pack papers are basically hotel toilet paper, kinda thin. )

My car payment for a 2018 Focus, purchased new, is $320/month. I fill the tank once a week for 400 miles of coverage over 11-12 gallons (obv. CA gas prices are higher than Texas), and pay ~$200/mo for car insurance on two vehicles and two drivers.
If it reaches $800/mo, you/re probably losing money.

I bought me a stove a while back. It broke. It's under warranty. Made by Whirlpool so I called Whirlpool. They said they would send a service tech out to fix it. They couldn't get a hold of him. Told me to wait 5 days. Today, being the fifth day they sent me an E-mail saying that they would send me the part and for me to find a tech to fix it and they would reimburse me up to $150 out of my pocket.
$150 out of my pocket and they'll reimburse me, when? I can't afford the $150.
So I called them back and talked to the service department and was told this was sent from a different department. ??? So what am I supposed to do? I asked her to inform the other department. She said it would take three more days.

Ill preface this post by saying I dont blame the employees I blame the companies. They over work and under pay their workers. Lately Ive been having niggles and quirks when buying stuff in town. One employee I spoke to today said they'd been at work since 3am.
Dollar General - A simple mistake.....doubled charged for 2 items when I had only one. Quickly and cheerfully fixed.
In both these cases the workers were helpful and friendly.
Ok now the reason to post...Hardees. I always look online if Im going to go by a fast food place to see whats on the menu and the prices. I have to plan ahead for everything. Hardees even made me choose the location I was going to. It didn't help. The last 2 or 3 visits have been about the same as this one.
Me - Id like a Classic Double Cheeseburger.
Them - A what?
Me - A California Classic DCB
Them - Leaves register to tag in someone else.
Them - Ok what can I get you?
Me - Do you have the Classic DCB?
Them - No we quit selling them months ago.
Me - Sighs (Wonders why they are still on the menu online) Ok Ill have a Thickburger no onion no pickle.
Them - Want a combo?
Me - No but Id like some Natural Cut Fries (This is what they are on the menu and always have been)
Them - What?
Me - Fries...Natural Cut Fries.
Them - We dont have those.
Me - Ok so only curly fries now?
Them - No we dont have those.
Me - You have fries at all?
Them - Ya we have the normal fries
Me - Ya thats the natural cut ones. (o.m.g.)
Them - Anything else?
Me - Chicken tenders
Them - Sauce?
Me- Ranch
Them - Huh?
Me - Raaaanccchhhhh
I get my ticket it clearly shows SAUCE = NONE . Grrrr. I kept my eye on her. Then when she is bagging it all....
Them - Want sauce?
Me - yes ranch
Them - What kind?
Me - Oh the things I wanted to say....but I said Ranch
I get done get home and open my burger for salt and BAM theres pickle and onion on it. Fuck me.
Thats a typical Hardees visit.
EDIT: OH! And their chicken tenders are half the size they used to be. So basically instead of 3 I got 1 1/2.

Come to think of it, it just feels like a TERRIBLE idea to do a RealID upgrade right now, as I *may* be about to start a driving job in two-three weeks, and be trained for an update of my driver's license. I should do the upgrade and RealID change TOGETHER. That was a total brain fart.

I guess I'm lucky, I've never custom ordered from a fast food place. Not for me anyway. The kids' "no onion, no tomato" orders are correct maybe 60% of the time.

As noted earlier, I'm a picky eater. I've learned how to order.
"I want a plain hamburger/chicken/etc. sandwich. Just the /*insert protein*/ and a bun. No cheese."
Because, believe it or not, "plain" means "with cheese" just about everywhere.

I don't customize too much, but when I do I rarely see a mistake. "No mayo, add mustard" is pretty typical for me, and I don't recall having any issues. Once the person at Potbelly's put mayo on my sandwich, but since I'm standing there watching her I caught her. She asked if it was OK if she just scraped it off, but I said I really hated mayo and asked her to remake the whole thing. A bit wasteful I know, but at least I didn't have to eat residual mayo.

Speaking of residual mayo, we once had this asshole board member name Earl who was such a tightwad he made us buy these cheap ass pre-made sandwiches in the plastic triangles. When another board member ("Betty") complained that her diet restricted her from eating mayonnaise, Earl told her to scrape it off.

That's why I will usually try not to use the drive-thru if I'm getting a drink, because I always want it with no ice, and it's a toss-up whether the drive-thru person gets it right. I'd rather just park and go inside and fill my drink myself.

It's a known opportunity cost for me when I use the drive-thru. Though it matters less and less. I eat less and less fast food and it wasn't but a month ago, maybe that I was forced to eat fast food three times in one week. All three trips had me at a drive-thru kiosk where partial menus where slowly presented, often without pricing. The next time I stop for fast food, I will have to take that probability in to account and elect to... go inside...
just so I can see the menu and price. The good news for me is the last two or three times I had to step in to a place to order food, they had kiosks where I could order and no one wanted to use them, so I just walk up and search the menu via touchscreen, pay with CC, and then get my order while other people are still in line. That is the exact opposite of how grocery checkout works for me, wherein no matter how I shop, I check out in such a fashion that will create the longest of all possible waits between me entering a checkout line and me loading groceries in to my car. I can friggen get in a self checkout lane behind no one and that will be the exact moment the scanner or the CC synchronizor goes on the fritz and the attendant is away or is calling for a manager to work on someone else complaining for price check.

Was checking out at Walmart today. They had 3 normal people lines open. 3. And each was a line back to the walking aisle area long. So I go to the self checkout I hate. Its full so Im standing RIGHT IN FRONT of the cashier lady watching the area. She has a full register and can check people out. Does she? No she stands there looking everywhere but at me right in front of her. Just as Im about to ask if she will check me out ones of the self serves opens and I scoot in. One of my items made her come and adult it for me anyways
I like the Wizard of Oz thing.
