I went ahead and bought FO4 GoTY at GOG since it was on sale, that way I don't have to mess with the Steam version. Got FOLON installed and ran it for the first time. So first steps complete. Now to find time to start playing...
I may wait a bit before playing, to see if any major bugs are found and fixed.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I've got a FO4 Wabbajack install of Magnum Opus going. I stopped Steam from auto-updating a long time ago for FO4 and Skyrim. I launch only through Mod Organizer 2. This new New London ain't happening for me until Magnum Opus crashes in the (hopefully) far future.

Not a point by point summary (I was listening to it while attending to chores), but my personal highlights were:

The team was too small to conduct the sort of QA testing that you would expect from a professional development team, so they aren't surprised that players are finding bugs that they didn't catch pre-release. It sounds like they intend to wrap up bug fixes and additional content by the end of the year, at which point they will put a bow on it and move on. They plan to transition from a mod team to a "Project FOLON" indie development studio using funds that have been donated through Patreon(?) and make their own games rather than continue to produce mods.

Also, the developer being interviewed has suspiciously good teeth for an alleged UK citizen... :shifty:

If you're playing Fallout London and are about to start the Hurly Burly quest (when you first enter Hackney), play it through the part where you meet Dennis and fight in a place called Oberon. If you don't do that right away, I think you lose the opportunity to do that quest line. After that I think you can do the more normal "backburner this bunch of quests" thing.

I really suck at Survival mode in this game. I love the idea. But I stink.

I haven't played survival in a long time. The Wabbajack modlists I've used in the last couple years don't allow survival mode. It is a tough go though from what I remember.

I tried survival mode for a while a few years ago, but I had to mod the damage back to standard levels in order to actually play as opposed to dying repeatedly.

My current Wabbajack list is Survival. But it includes an auto-eat/drink mod. That makes things a lot easier. I just have to make sure to keep plenty in my inventory. The diseases suck at the beginning, but aren't too bad now. I just always save before sleeping. Then reload if I wake up with an ailment. :D I do also have Save Anywhere and Fast Travel enabled. The first because this is a Bethesda game... it's going to crash. The second because there are too many random fights. Way more than Skyrim. I'm running a mod that has groups spawn in that are hunting for you. It initially was every 5-10 min. That was ridiculous. I started using Fast Travel because I couldn't get anywhere otherwise. And now I've changed them to spawn every 30-60 min. That's much easier to manage.

I have had fun with survival, but only with save anywhere, fast travel, and the console enabled. As mentioned, this is a Bethesda game. The first because I'm a grown up with reality that calls, the second because the travel is tedious later in the game, and the last because it is the fix for the majority of BethBugs.

I am inherently anti-mod...but for this survival mode run I did add in a backpack mod that adds backpacks to allow you to carry more. Also, I play exclusively on console so the mod list is somewhat limited. But all of the things that survival mode brings...needing food, needing sleep, only save in beds, lack of fast travel...those are the things that I dig. But it is BRUTAL.

My primary play style has always been VATS, VATS, VATS. My reflexes have dropped to the point that I can't do the run and gun anymore. So I tend to heavily favor pistols to give me lots of shots in VATS, but I'm not sure that is an very effective build style in Survival. Low damage output means I have to be VERY careful.

Try mixing in a shotgun for close quarters, maybe a sniper rifle to thin things out from a distance.

What is the name of your Wabba list? I don't see Survival as a choice in their website gallery.

I probably should have clarified... I'm actually playing FO4 VR. And there is currently only one available Wabbajack for VR. :D Makes my options a bit limited...

It also changes VATS dramatically. Now it just slows down time.

I also second a good shotgun. I currently have one with explosive bullets that destroys targets. And it's actually surprisingly good at mid distances too.

I've been using a pipe sniper rifle (I think my current build is about level 13ish) for some long distance work. Was invaluable in clearing out the defenders in front of corvega. I've been resisting shotguns just to keep from hauling more than two weapons, but maybe you're right about the shotgun. I think I have one in storage, I may go and pick that up and see if it can help. I also haven't been using any power armor, that could help out with some of my early survival. Maybe.

For Corvega, I usually go around back. Lets you skip a lot of the people out front. You don't even need them to complete the quest. I think just the guys in the top room.

Edit: Don't forget the bobblehead! (Sadly, most of the bobblehead perks seem pretty useless for me in VR.)

I have discovered a nice cheat in VR. For doors that are chained, I can stick my hand through the door, turn it, and undo the chains. :D Most of the time I don't do it. But it's nice to have as an option.

Yeah, I've done the sewer pipe entrance, the front door, and around back. Wow. This suddenly sounded dirty. I'll shut up now.

Get the SKK mod, set it to spawn every 5 min, and choose large groups. You'll have plenty to shoot.

Well, I figured out one thing that helped a lot…I was looking through how I could mod my weapons and suddenly noticed that because I’ve been buying into gunslinger if I swapped out my sniper pipe rifle’s stock for a pistol grip my damage more than doubled! I guess it makes sense, but I just never thought about a sniper pistol until that time. With this little change I was able to cruise through the next couple of quests last night with minimal difficulty.

Whenever I'm thinking about getting another level in weaponry or armor crafting I save and then experiment with what it will do for my current gear. If it's worth it, I keep it. Otherwise I reload the save and pick another perk.
