Thanks for reminding me that "pole saw" is a thing that exists and I could use. I should buy one. Or at least see if the hardware store's rental desk has them, because it's the kind of thing I'm probably only going to use once.

Absolutely!

For further contrast in the world of difference between how a typical MS-DOS game sounded back in the day vs. the Commodore 64, compare the music of the DOS-based F-19 Stealth Fighter released in September of 1988 (at least according to Mobygames) to the utterly outstanding soundtrack of The Last Ninja, released in 1987 on the Commodore 64.

Talk about a night and day difference!

It turns out that last week would have been James Doohan's 100th birthday.

I had trouble assimilating that.

I could never assimilate him having a kid in his 80s.

Its been 50 years since Star Trek ended. Its my age. 53 if you count when it started. I remember the 25th anniversary. I recall Star Trek 6 coming out around then.

Hey, I use that Outlet as data carrier thing. Powerline networking is more reliable through floors. :)

It's ~$40 to rent one for 4 hours. It's under $100 to buy a corded electric on Amazon.

Tempting; I decided a year or two ago to stop trying to Macgyver home repairs myself and hire pros instead. My house is full of repair projects that sort-of almost worked out well. I'm not prepared to hire a real tree service for the limited amount of trimming that I need, though -- those companies are too expensive. Perhaps a handyman would be a good compromise.

My DVR has a mind of its own. If I leave the tv on and turn the DVR off then within an hour it turns itself back on but leaves the sound off. Also it resets its guide once a week. So instead of seeing info on whats on its simply all blank except for the stock wait message. Yet it still records whats set. Strange thing. When I turn you off STAY OFF!

Den of Geek
With the 42nd anniversary of Hitchhiker’s underway — a number chosen due to its particular significance in the saga — the coming months will see the release of new merchandise based on the story. The most exciting of which is the release of two long out-of-print LPs from Demon Music Group as part of this year’s Record Store Day celebrations on April 18th:

Following the success of the BBC radio series, Douglas Adams adapted his scripts for these two full-cast albums, with incidental radiophonic music provided by Paddy Kingsland. First released by Original Records in 1980, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe star Peter Jones as The Book, Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Geoffrey McGivern as Ford Prefect, and Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Both albums are being paired together on three 180g colored discs by Demon for this release and it is limited to 750 copies. For fans who always wanted to get their hands on these releases but didn’t want to pay the high secondary market prices the LPs often command, this reissue is a dream come true. The records include reproduction of the eye-catching original art by British design firm Hipgnosis (who also did iconic covers for artists ranging from E.L.O. to Pink Floyd).

There goes the spare money. Water heater is leaking at the top connection after 4 years. So a handyman is coming out later to fix it. Going to see about fixing my kitchen cold water as Ive had a toothpick size trickle of cold for 3 or 4 years and Im tired of it. Also the bathroom has a drip that equal 1/4 a bucket every 5 days.

If nothing else Im getting the water heater fixed. that leak has gone from a small drop in Dec to a soaked bath towel every 2 days.

Also one of these days Im going to shove a Walmart idiots pickup up the aisle when the yback out without looking. Today it was either blow the horn and be hit or swerve around the yehaaw . I swerved.

Around here crossing your fingers and backing out without looking is often the only option. There are so many people around here who drive giant SUVs and jacked up trucks that anyone in a sedan is completely blind when they're in a parking space. It's like being parked between two walls, and you can't see until the front seat clears them. Given that many of the trucks have extended beds, that often means until you're all the way out.

This is a crappy option, and is why I have two accidents on my driving record instead of one. Parked neatly in a grocery lot between a truck and a sedan. I get out and the sedan is a van. With absolutely no way to see beyond it or the pickup, I could only slowly back out. While crawling at 2mph, I caught a flash and felt a bump - someone was hauling ass through the lot and clipped my rear bumper.

Laws in Maine make that somehow my fault because I was backing up.

I need a new faucet. Are all faucets the same size where they fit in the sink? Same distance between the hot and cold connections I mean.

When I bought my house a couple of years ago, it came with a Carbon Monoxide detector.
It started beeping over the weekend and the display read Err.
Looked it up on the First Alert website and it said that was the end of life code for the 10 year battery in it
Started looking for a replacement and ran across a post that said to check the manufacture date on it. 10/15.
Called First Alert and they sent out a new one free of charge.
Got it the other day. Looked very similar to the old one.
Still had the screws and anchors in the wall. Went to pop it on and the freaking slots for the screw mounts are literally 1/16th off from the previous ones. I pictured some dude sitting in his office laughing his ass off because he designed it like that on purpose.
Had to drill new holes......

It shouldn't be so hard to find out who owns the phone number that just called you and left no message. I can maybe find out 1 in 20 times. The net is filled with sites that either dont work or want you to pay something to know. In the older days it always worked. Also it used to be a private number cost money to have. Very annoying these days just trying to figure out who called and you missed it or refused to answer because of marketers.

If I get a call and they hang up/don't leave a message/etc, it is one of two things:

1. Something important, in which case they'll call back.
2. Something unimportant, in which case I don't care enough to go looking them up.

You're thinking in antiquated White/Yellow Pages-terms in an age when phone numbers can be freely generated with a just few mouse-clicks.
