Just another example of the supporting character needing their own show. I'd love to follow the adventures of Poe and his AI buddies.

Almost done and this show has done wonders when it comes to filling the batshit insane shaped hole in my life that the cancellation of Raised by Wolves left in me.

Yeah, I’m trying to think of anything that even comes close to the…weirdness/creativity/risks that was Raised by Wolves and coming up empty. There are a few weird, creative details in Scavengers, but they almost feel secondary when compared to the innate originality of RBW.

I also love Scavengers, but most of its strangeness comes from literal actions like touching a weird flower and it does something unusual. RBW was INHERENTLY weird, with alien ideas, and those literal moments were not the focus. If that makes sense? Kinda hard to define.

Sadly, in the current environment, a show like RBW would never get made. Like most things in life, timing is everything.

The only thing I sometimes find distracting in SR is that they overdo it with the alien world. Not every plant, animal or mineral has to have a power.

But overall, I'm lovin' the story and I'm lovin' the alien world.

Agree, they overdid it a little in terms of "LOOK HOW WEIRD AND ALIEN THIS WORLD IS!" :D But again, it's still fantastic, and that is a small nitpick.

I'm watching a show called "Away", with Hillary Swank, about a Mars mission, and it's not very good. Really more of a soap opera about Hillary and her family and dysfunctional crew. But it's only 10 episodes and I'm halfway through so I reckon I'll stick it out.

I'm quite late to the party, but clearly Agent Steel is far from being Captain Fall's worst nightmare. He's well down the list, behind any number of Netflix programming executives.

I sure would like to see what happens in the 10 unaired episodes...

Yeah, that was one weird series, wasn't it? I thought there'd be a point to it by the end, but there wasn't.

Trigger Warning is not good. The video is clear and has nice color but that's the highlight of the movie. My bar for this kind of movie is very low but I can't recommend it for any reason. Not even the most obvious one. Bad fight choreography, ridiculously obvious story, and Alba doesn't look like she put any work in to look like a special forces badass.
I would suggest watching Peppermint, Lou, or The Hunt instead.

I couldn't get over the ending/tone.
Spoiler:
They are both bad people. She wants to have someone kill her husband and he kills a cop that was trying to blackmail them. I guess that could work of it were like Goodfellas and we know they are awful criminals, but this had a happy rom-com vibe and I guess we're supposed to be happy for these people? Killers are ok people as long as they're both hot?

If it says Netflix original and it has a big name star attached, it’s most likely a vanity project. And since most big name stars aren’t terribly good writers or producers, or even simply good at choosing material, I tend to avoid these.

Yep, that about sums it up, Hep. I generally ignore them as well. Unless they get good buzz in general. I've enjoyed the Enola Holmes movies, for instance. Most of them just tend to fizzle though.

I made it about 20 minutes into the first Enola Holmes before I bailed. I should probably give it a chance though. I've heard others say they enjoyed it. But I think I'm just a bit burnt out on all things Millie Bobby Brown.

And I wouldn't exactly blame you. Once Stranger Things became a hit, she started popping up in a lot of other things. But both Enola Holmes movies are really good. Henry Cavill plays Holmes in both, and has a bigger presence in the second one.

It does feel like Netflix movies in general tend to be in a category of their own though, in a way that makes me highly cynical of them. I've said it before, but it feels like they have more success with their series vs movies.

Enola Holmes was pretty solid. Not great but decent. Damsel was good overall. Atlas was decent and about 20 times better than Trigger Warning. I also enjoyed both of the extraction movies. They weren't great cinema but decent movies with plenty of action. As I said, I don't have high standards for dumb action movies but that's just how bad Trigger Warning is.

Atlas I’m not even going to attempt, I’ve decided.

But I did enjoy the Extraction movies. Probably because I like Hemsworth.

I, for one, am in for eight episodes. Maybe 10 if it's a dark comedy with nurse shenanigans, or even 12 if the beer vs. wife subplot has a good twist.

Even with a low budget of 23k this movie has got to be better than Trigger Warning.

Delighting some on this board, The Shoulder will be played by Mark Wahlberg. Apparently he nails it.

Being decent on Netflix is almost considered a win at this point... :D

I'd actually love to see Henry Cavill reprise his role of Sherlock Holmes in a separate movie.

I think people's expectations were too high after Netflix (early) success with series. I mean, their movies have been plenty entertaining, they don't have to be Oscar contenders. Gunpowder Milkshake? Great cast, impressive fight choreography, decent story. Red Notice? Also good cast, decent story, nothing original but entertaining to watch. Mr. Right? Insanely fun to watch, great actor chemistry, Sam Rockwell is always a treat. 6 Underground, The Gray Man, Extraction - all respectable action movies in their own right (now that I think about it, Netflix seems to do much better with action than, say, sci-fi).

Enola Holmes was a bit all over the place but I did enjoy it. I haven't seen the second one. Also haven't seen Trigger Warning but I might at some point.

Yeah, there have been some entertaining ones. But in general, I feel like so many of them fail in their execution amid great ideas and concepts and are generally unsatisfying. It's like the directors can't quite reach the vision they've wanted. FWIW, I did like Red Notice too, despite poor critical reception. There was one post-apocalyptic movie I watched years ago that felt unfinished; there's a scene where they're driving in what looks like the Pacific Northwest or Oregon, the characters in the car are talking and the movie just ends right there, and it happens before anything of consequence happens.

For me, they mostly fail even as entertainment. It’s like watching a montage of a dozen other movies at times. In my opinion, they’re bereft of any real originality or vision. They look to see what made money at the box office and then just rewrite it with thinly veiled changes.

I love popcorn movies, but when the butter on the popcorn goes rancid, I just can’t finish it.

And in that rare moment, lightning strikes and they get an Oscar contender. Even among some of their contenders though the quality varies so wildly, like Hillbilly Elegy for instance. I feel like Netflix isn't choosy enough at who they give their money to. It's like they fund any vanity project attached to a big director without much scrutiny, whether the idea is good or not. I may have misunderstood your post, but Hilbilly Elegy was critically savaged as being borderline unwatchable.
