I want to do scotch eggs.
Looks interesting, but way too complicated. I can probably "simulate" it with cooked sausage patties, mashed, as a wrapper, and put it into air fryer along with undercooked egg. Wouldn't have the crispy coating a true deep fried one does, or it might?
In the meanwhile, with my egg cooker widget I can do that barely cooked "boiled" egg quite easily... Just have to add a little less water than usual, and dump the egg immediately into cold water to stop cooking, usually with tongs.

I still get peeved in a store when I cant find the shelf sticker for an item Im holding or has been misplaced but I want. Thats when I wish for the little price stickers.
Nowadays, I think we have a smartphone for that.
Wait, what? How would that work?

Many large stores, you can use their app to scan the bar code (walmart for example) and get the current price of the item.

I was not aware of that. Probably because I never would have thought that the Wal-Mart app would have a use beyond an advertising portal, so I never bothered to look at it.

The Sam's Club app is a must for that store. It allows you to scan your items as you go, pay when you are done, and head straight for the exit. You still have to stop at the door for a random audit, but it's way faster than going through a checkout line.

Indeed, especially since checkout lines at Sam's Clubs tend to be slower than pond water in my experience (particularly in comparison to Costco).

So we have been cleaning out my father-in-laws storage locker. When he moved here they had to store stuff that wouldn't fit in the apartment. Recently he died so we have been trying to empty it out, bit by bit. Yesterday we discovered that a dresser we thought was empty had stuff in two drawers and so we emptied it out and my wife went thru it.
Among the stuff she found were some missing rings of her mothers. But we also found what appears to be Japanese Invasion currency from the Philippines, a 50 Centavo bill issued by the Japanese when they invaded the islands. My FIL grew up in Hawaii and I assume that is how he came into possession of it.
We also found 3 Confederate State of America bills, a $%, $10 and a $20. They also appear authentic but probably of little collecters value as millions of each were produced in 1864. I found a $20 on e-bay for $9.99. He was apparently given these by an uncle according to the paperwork with them.

I am an interviewer and have done a couple dozen interviews since we started wfh. I've seen a lot of interesting looks in these interesting times, but it factors not at all into hiring. I am doing technical interviews for software and data engineering positions at a bank. YMMV, but generally it shouldn't I guess maybe unless you are looking for a public-facing position.
I figured should also note that my hair hasn't been cut since January.

Im dripping wet with sweat. I tried for another hour in the heat trying to remove that mower blade bolt. Used wrenches, fliers, hammer, wd40. All I did was semi round off the bolt head. So I cant remove it. Im either mowing with a dull blade until I cant or wedging it into my trunk to take somewhere I dont know where and paying a stupid price to get it done while tearing up my trunk seals .

Just going to throw this out there - you do know that most lawn mower blade nuts are reverse-threaded, right?
Re: Random randomness
Posted: Mon Jun 08, 2020 7:00 pm
by Daehawk
Ive checked online repeatedly and they all show they are normal threaded...even the model this one is..checked videos too. Not sure of any way to check it other than that.
This is a good view of the bolt
https://www.amazon.com/MTD-710-1257-Bla ... B005UAT4NE
And this site states right hand
https://www.quickieparts.com/murray-par ... -1257.html
I think because the blade has slipped some off its center to the shaft its putting a lot of pressure on that bolt. Wish they'd just make the heads of bolts twice as thick so a wrench would stay on it and have some grip to it.
Re: Random randomness

by Smoove_B
I just wanted to make sure. If you've verified via the manual or a model number that it's not reverse-threaded then without actually seeing it I'm not sure anyone can help. It just sounds kinda strange that it's not moving at all.

My neighbor got it off with an impact driver. Need to get one of those. Took him 10 sec or less.Brttzz. Im going to replace the bolt and a piece of the blade adaptoer. Might replace the blade if they aren't much. The adapter itself the teeth that should hold the blade from spinning at smoothed off and probably needs replacing as well. Id need a gear pulley most likely to remove it though and I dont have one of course.
EDIT: Found a place on Walmarts site that has the bolt, washer, and adapter for $17. Thats over $10 cheaper than most other places. Supposed to fit this model too. Can try that. If it wont fit I can return it to Walmart.Easy.

Ouchie. Opened a can of dog food and when I spun it to get a better angle to spoon the food out a little sliver of metal went into my finger like a splinter. Never had that happen before. We've used the side seam opening type of can openers for years. Many years ago in the 90s we used the old type that simply cut the lid off and left that lid sharp as hell. I grabbed the garbage one day and one of those old lids went through my finger to the bone. I instantly said UH OH before any blood came. Knew it was bad.
Anyways I could barely see this little sliver of metal. Couldn't grab it with tweezers and had to use a sewing needle to dig it out like a splinter. It just being in there must have been right on a nerve because it hurt like I had a nail in me.

Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers, as aptly described
by Stormin' Norman:
SliverGripper.com wrote:
General Norman Schwarzkopf wrote about the Sliver Gripper™ after Desert Storm: "I have never had a pair of tweezers in my life that was worth a damn. Now I do and I appreciate it very much."
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Sliver Gripper™ is a precision manufactured tweezer tool made completely in the U.S.A. exclusively with 100% high quality American steel. The Sliver Gripper is made from a patented design that is unique in both shape and functionality. This design differentiates the Sliver Gripper from all other tweezers and allows its’ practical uses to be unlimited. The Sliver Gripper is currently used in numerous wide ranging applications from First Aid to Cross Stitch. This multi-faceted functionality makes the Sliver Gripper a viable retail sales item in the vast majority of retail stores in the U.S., from the local hardware store to the big box store on the highway. The Sliver Gripper provides an exceptional opportunity for significant wholesale and retail growth because of its’ singular distinctiveness.
Uncle Bill's Sliver Gripper™ is a unique precision manufactured item that is a favorite for First Aid usage, but has become renowned for its’ ability to be used in countless applications. We stand out from all other tweezers for many reasons, our product is completely manufactured in the U.S.A. with only high quality American made stainless steel, our tweezer design and name is patent protected, our recloseable tube and clip holder packings are unique among all tweezer brands and also patent protected, and the Sliver Gripper is listed with the FDA as a surgical instrument for manual use. We also differentiate ourselves by using the Sliver Gripper as the primary component in pocket sized First Aid kits used for insect removal and treatment of minor skin injuries caused by penetration of small foreign objects such as wood splinters, glass shards, and metal slivers. We are small enough and flexible enough to produce customized private label packaging for the tweezer and First Aid Kits, including the ability to engrave the Sliver Gripper for private label use.

Not heard of them. Dont look very sharp....but cant contradict Norman. He may come back for me. I never considered military service to be so metal sliver dangerous.
Just got done watching a stream from David Hewlett. 3 hours! He is a talkative person. Very nice guy though and smart. I swear he just played himself as Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis. lol.
Twitch is cool. Get to chat to people you normally couldn't unless you were at a convention. Yesterday I at least got to say hi to Hafthor Bjornsson...The Mountain from GoT. He is giving away a signed weight plate from his world record lift in a contest. Pretty cool. Saw part of his workout routine. Its nuts.

Yeah, they used to be sold sharpened and ground to a point. I suspect they had to alter the design to satisfy consumer safety requirements somewhere along the line or as a cost-saving measure.
Fortunately, that's easily remedied in less than 5 minutes with a sharpening stone though. Then you can get 'em crazy sharp.

I don't. It hadn't even occurred to me that it was an option to have regular batteries. I found one article that talks about travel ones. That might be your best bet. The first one they recommend uses regular batteries. I stopped reading after that. But hopefully it'll give you a place to start.

I buy a cheap ($25-$35) Norelco and when it won't recharge I just toss it and buy another. It is probably dull by then anyway.

the foils are replaceable... my Braun is on its third one in 20 years. (it's also a rechargeable battery type, but i never used it cordless as the power output was significantly less when used that way...and the battery is ofc shot now.)
looking at this, unless i want to go with the entry-level rotary-style shaver, everything else has integrated batteries. that's too bad. looks like i'm staying with this two decade old Braun until it dies - speaks well for its quality.

I want to know how I managed to turn my alarm off and go back to bed this morning without any memory of it. I was enjoying the hazy in-between feeling when I felt compelled to double-check the time to see how much longer I could stay there. I was already 13 minutes over my alarm. My phone hasn't failed to wake me up in years, so I don't blame that. I somehow managed to swipe the alarm off and go back to sleep without ever really waking up.

Called an HVAC company over a month ago (May 8) to schedule an A/C tuneup. The earliest availability they had was today, June 10. We’re not having any issues with the A/C, so that was fine. They confirmed the appointment last night via text, and we were all set to have them come out today.
Got a text this morning that “due to a high volume of emergency’s” (sic), they can’t come this morning, and to call them to reschedule. No big deal, things happen. I called to reschedule, and the earliest appointment they had was…July 10.
So it took over a month to get the initial appointment, they cancel that appointment the morning of, then can’t find a single slot to reschedule for another full month. And the cherry on top of this is that I wrote them a quick note on their website’s “Contact Us” form to let them know my frustration. That message bounced as undeliverable.
Needless to say, I'll be looking for a new HVAC company.
