According to the DC police chief three other people died at the US Capitol complex today. That brings the total to four.
No details though.

Probably not meaningful, then. Any time you get a lot of people together, you get a few deaths....cause math.

Scott Perry from the House and Hawley objected to PA. This is preposterous. Up to another 2 hours of debate and a long vote cycle.

With the possible exception of dying of old age, wouldn't that describe pretty much all deaths?

That was what the Chief of the Capitol Police called them. I guess to distinguish them from the woman gunned down for being a seditionist moron.

In all seriousness, maybe you can't expel all these insurrectionists in the House but they should be able to dump Hawley and Cruz. Everyone would probably be happy to do it. We need someone to send a strong message.
Meanwhile, Trump's cabinet is silent. Only a Deputy Press Secretary and Melania's Chief of Staff resigned. What is happening in the WH? We have another 13 days where Trump will continue to attack our democracy. This Electoral College stuff is just ridiculous in this context.
I've been reading news accounts from other countries and it is surreal. People elsewhere don't understand how this is happening and essentially are confused because nothing is being done to stop Trump. For us, we're all trapped in a national mad house in an extremely precarious position and everyone everywhere is beginning to hold their breath hoping the moment passes peacefully.

Mmm Would they though? The recent global trend has been towards authoritarianism not away. In other countries, he'd have his goons start shooting us, hang some key democrats and news personalities, and consolidate power. We are fortunate both, he is stupid and enough elected republicans have too much to lose from his capricious nature. They clearly dont give a fuck about democracy. (with some exceptions)
: and our military with some notable exceptions is an institution that has held strong in its constitutional boundaries.

I'll believe it when I see it. I think they are still scared of him and his influence with the base. This would be smart move for the long term, it would put the stake in the heart of the vampire, not that it would totally kill him but it would be a start. But they don't have the guts. They've created a party of irrational conspiracy theorists, and they are stuck with it until it collapses of it's own insanity.

He thinks highly of himself. Therefore he has nothing to learn. He has nothing to feel remorseful about. He's infallible in his mind. That's why I don't think he'll stop until he's dead or incapacitated. If he's still alive in 2024 he'll run again due to popular demand. Those 2020 voters will still be there. All the turmoil he caused is fuel for his ego. Imagine how powerful he feels knowing he has a mob willing to attack wherever he points his finger. If he's still alive. He's made people nervous, including powerful people. There's no telling how long they'll tolerate his existence.

The one thing I haven't seen anyone discuss yet is the assassination attempt someone will make on Biden leading up to his inauguration or even at the inauguration.
We have a situation where police are inviting terrorists to storm the capital, a president egging them on, and a party still refusing to accept the reality they've help construct. Supporting all of that is an increasingly incensed, uninformed, and well armed mob. You can't tell me that an attempt on Biden's life is out of the realm of possibility for these people and mean it. I'm certain there's enough angry crazy in that crowd that someone will be willing to take a shot if they're able to get close enough or find a big enough bullet.
Little Raven wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:58 pmThere's ~0 percent chance that anyone involved "gets away" with anything.
Maybe not for the crowd on the ground, but I doubt the cops who let them in will be charged or even fired and I'm all but certain that the ringleader-in-chief of this coup attempt will walk away unscathed.
The way the Mancheeto uses "great" in his Tweets and releases now reminds me wholly of Harry Potter. "
He Who Must Not Be Named did great things – terrible, yes, but great."

About half or more of the Republican senators have decided not to oppose the electors - so limited applause there, but it appears that Cruz and Hawley are sticking to their guns and will continue to oppose the electors. Shame on them.
Donald J Trump should award them the presidential medal of freedom that they may never be forgotten for their "patriotism".

I have Morning Joe on this morning and it is interesting that several commentators have banged on two things:
1) the Capitol police need to be investigated and the whole security apparatus reformed for Congress
2) that Biden has to end this kumbaya talk and get serious.
I can't agree more with both these points.

The Secret Service will be much better prepared than the Capitol Police. I don't think an assassination attempt is likely, although it's more likely than I would've thought 24 hrs ago. I'd be more worried about an attempt on Harris than on Biden, though. Harris represents everything this group hates.

I would think think the Trump family would actually get involved to work against this. If it happens, they are announcing civil war and his whole family as on the table as priority targets and the US won't care as his insurrection are terrorists in that war. They go into hiding for the rest of their lives.

I would have thought that before yesterday. We have serious security issues in multiple agencies. Whether it is governance, strategy, planning, coordination, interagency conflict, or whatever I don't have a lot of faith in institutions to be run correctly. Especially after the Trump administration gutted so much of our governance structure.

It is amazing to consider how much of a difference there could potentially be in the course of the entire country if Twitter would simply extend the ban of one person for another, say, 13 days.
While the MAGA's would undoubtedly howl, removing Trump's primary megaphone would make the world a lot safer place right now.

She served four tours in US Air Force only to die after storming the Capitol of the country for which she fought in order to over turn an election for a demagogue who had respect neither for our military or our democracy.
Very sad. Tragic. But nothing tells me it was a bad shoot. Would suck to be the officer in that position.
You can't be in the vanguard of a riot breaking into the fucking Capitol Building and not assume a very high risk of getting killed or injured.

Mulvaney resigned as Special Envoy to Ireland. Stephanie Ruhle just mentioned that Mulvaney wasn't even doing that much. He has been running around for a year trying to start up a hedge fund so this is essentially a performance to back away from Trump. I suspect we will see so many of these dirt bags scurrying away over the next few days/weeks/months.

That's exactly my position on her.
And her serving 14 years in the military tells me she was likely quite aware of that.
Now she will live in the history books. Perhaps she wanted it that way.
I have Zero sympathy for anyone that took part in the insurrection yesterday.
